LA CASITA

Welcome to La Casita, our rental Villa. La Casita is secluded for privacy in the back of our upscale, tropical, Asian-style compound and offers all the amenities of a luxurious getaway with ocean and jungle views in our gated compound with 24-hour security. Our compound consists of 4 buildings, our main open styled house, 2 car garage with 2 bedrooms on the 2nd level, our live-in caretakers house and La Casita.

LOCATION:

We are located just over 1/2 mile off the paved Costanera Highway above the quaint village of Uvita at an elevation of about 700 feet overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We are only 5 minutes to town and supermarkets, banks, restaurants, gas station, medical facility, pharmacy, etc.. We are 17 kms south of Dominical and 16 kms north of Ojachal. Uvita is the center of this beautiful southern pacific zone. Uvita is the home of the Ballena National Park and the location of the Whales Tale Beach. We are only a 10 to 15 minute drive in either direction to all the beaches from Dominical to Ojachal. The famous Manuel Antonio National Park is less than an hours drive north and the Sierpe Mangrove is about 1 1/2 hours south. The natural beauty of this area and wealth of activities make this a truly great destination.

DETAILS:

As guests in La Casita you will enjoy our large tiled pool that is surrounded with Columbia crushed coral decking (cool to the feet). Adjacent to the pool is a Balinese style pavilion with hammocks and a gas barbeque. A "tree house" deck connects to the pool built on stilts where you can sit and watch the ocean, have a glass of wine or other beverage and watch whatever hops, crawls or fly's by.

La Casita is one bedroom with a queen bed, a walk-in closet, air-conditioning and TV with Sky Satellite of Costa Rica programming. The kitchen is complete with a small 4 burner gas stove with oven, large refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, blender, toaster, toaster oven and a large sink with a garbage disposal. The kitchen has all the utensils, plates, pots and pans and everything you will need. We also stock the kitchen with basics such as salt, pepper, spices, vegetable oil etc., etc.. The inside living area blending in with the kitchen has a futon. The bathroom is large with a walk in shower with a garden view. The large outside covered deck as you enter La Casita has built in benches with table for dining. This deck is truly the place to sit and relax surrounded by jungle and gardens. On many occasions the monkeys hang out in the trees above looking down at you and toucans fly by or sit in the trees calling out with their unique sound to let all know they are there. All rooms including the bathroom and deck have ceiling fans.

Maid service and laundry are included. There is internet access and if you need you can use our land line phone. You will need a 4 wheel drive car. Roads are challenging in Costa Rica. We are always available for whatever you need. We can make suggestions on tours and even help you book tours.

We do call all interested guests so please make sure to include your phone number with your inquiry.

Our favorite place to stay in Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

We have been going to Costa Rica for years and have traveled all over the country. We fell in love with the Pacific Coast -- more specifically the Dominical/Uvita area -- and return there when we can. This was our second stay in this casita, and it is still the perfect place to stay in the area.

The casita itself is just what you need. A bedroom. A kitchen. A roomy bathroom. And an outside deck overlooking the beautiful landscaping and the jungle just beyond. During our stay, while sitting on the deck, we saw toucans, howler monkeys, hummingbirds, brightly colored finches and warblers and a colorful black-and-green poison dart frog that joined us on the deck. The frogs serendaded us at night, and the howler monkeys greeted us in the morning. Some people have to hike deep into the rainforest to experience what we experienced just sitting on the deck at the casita.

Our host, Joyce, was incredibly helpful and, having lived in Costa Rica for years, knows the ins and outs of the area and the country. And her groundskeeper and her house help were both friendly and very understanding as I spoke my bad Spanish. The kitchen was stocked with essentials when we arrived, so we didn't have to go to the store and buy all the staples. The casita and the pool were cleaned every day and in great condition. We felt safe, secure and welcome.

For a couple traveling in the area that wants a great place to return to at the end of every day, we highly recommend considering this great casita.

Like staying with family but still very private

  • 5 of 5

We had the most lovely stay with Joyce in her private casita next to her house! Gilbert, her gardener, and Marie, her maid were both a delight! Choco and Kenya, the frisky dobermans, are always at the gate to great you and are very well-behaved.

The casita had everything we needed--nothing fancy, but totally serviceable. We cooked a lot of our meals there from fresh produce from the farmer's markets and fresh caught fish from vendors in the area. The A/C worked well, which we only needed on some evenings. Most of the time the air was cool enough to sleep with the windows open to hear the sounds of Costa Rica. We saw so many birds from the porch, including a toucan and aracari's, especially in the early morning.

Marie even did our laundry whenever we wanted so we didn't have to bring that many clothes.

We had the crystal clear pool all to ourselves, --very cool that it is built right into Joyce's open-air home and the perfect temperature. Several evenings we sat out on the deck near the pool to sip cocktails and watch the sunset.

The location in Uvita was PERFECT for our one month stay, only five minutes up the hill from the conveniences of Uvita and from all the incredible beaches. Uvita is right in between Dominical, with it's funky surfer's scene, and Ojochal, with fabulous restaurants. We spent time on every beach of Ballena National Park and beyond, from Dominical to Ojochal, including, of course, the Whale's Tail right in Uvita.

Joyce was the sweetest hostess, providing suggestions for restaurants and such, providing us with a selection of coolers to use to go up to the San Isidro farmer's market and any other little thing we needed. We enjoyed reporting our adventures to her every evening when we came home. She herself is world traveled with furnishings from all over Asia, and lots of stories.

Joyce's property is private and safe, with a locked gate so no worries about your car or belongings. She has been collecting heliconias for years, and Gilbert nurtures seedlings and new plantings to make the property lush and beautiful.

We only left yesterday and are missing the warm feelings of being in welcoming Costa Rica and living in Joyce's casita.

Beautiful jungle casita

  • 5 of 5

What a nice little casita set in the middle of the jungle yet so close to the village of Uvita. It was nice to wake up to the sound of the howler monkeys and the various birds. You can also have a glimpse of Isla Ballena and Joyce' s lovely garden with the biggest collection of Heliconias.

The casita has everything you need ,the kitchen is well equipped to prepare your meals and the outside deck is perfect to relax .The pool was also quite nice and soothing.

You will love being a guest at Joyce's beautiful casita...she will do everything to make you stay welcoming.

Beautiful casita

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our two week stay in Joyce's casita. The large terrace has spectacular views to the sea and is surrounded by jungle. We saw countless toucans, two types of monkeys and even a pair of scarlet macaws flew past one afternoon. Just a short walk uphill from Joyce's house one evening, we saw a sloth and more monkeys. The casita is ideally situated to visit all the spectacular beaches nearby. Joyce is a very friendly host as are her staff. She also has two friendly dogs! The road to the casita is easy enough with a 4WD, it is only a couple of minutes from the highway. It is a lovely, quiet location in the jungle.

Just like home--but better!!

  • 5 of 5

Joyce is an amazing host, and her staff (Mari & Gilbert) are phenomenal as well! We arrived to a refrigerator stocked with staples & some treats, as well as a full bag of coffee--such a welcome & appreciated surprise! This is just one way that Joyce welcomed us and made us feel at home. We had all of the privacy that we needed up in the casita, but felt as if we were staying with family members. This was a perfect place to stay with our kids (4 & 7)! They loved the pool, Mari's enthusiasm/love of children, Gilbert's special delivery of interesting insects (and even a baby iguana), and Joyce's easy-going nature and flexibility! We also appreciated Joyce's knowledge of the area, as well as the helpful advice she offered. We couldn't help but leave with tears in our eyes--we highly recommend it, and would not hesitate to stay there again. *FYI: she has two friendly dogs, 4WD is a MUST!!

Perfect in every way. Joyce is an amazing host and was extremely helpful and welcoming. In our 4-week costa rican journey, our stay in the casita was our favourite. Highly recommend it to everyone.
