General information: Puglia gets close to 300 days sunshine a year with the warm weather starting in April and going right through until the end of October. The hottest months are July and August but with two seas around the area the air does not feel too oppressive during these months, especially as the property is located on a hillside. Spring and autumn is glorious- sunny and warm with wild flowers in abundance.

Italians are unashamedly devoted to celebrating everything Italian - religion, food, love... And they show it with festivals, there's almost one a week in the summer, celebrating everything from classical music to grapes. These family orientated events provide great free outdoor entertainment and gives you an insight into the wonderful hospitable Pugliese people. Puglia is something authentic and very Italian, come and find out for yourself and see why more people are recommending it.

Activities: There is no limit to the amount of activities you can do in the region whether you prefer soaking up the sun, shopping, sightseeing or something more active. Beautiful architecture, ancient castles and Baroque churches can be found in all the local towns and eating is an activity in itself as the region is a food and wine lovers paradise - no matter how hard you try it is difficult to eat badly. With over 400 miles of coastline, Puglia has a huge selection of sandy beaches/coves (all of which have blue flag status) and there are plenty of activities for the water sports enthusiasts.

If it is golfing you are looking for then Puglia has five major courses to offer. The 5* San Domenica Golf resort and spa near the fishing village of Savelettri, is the closest at only a 10-15 minute drive.

Wonderful Puglia

  • 5 of 5

This was our first holiday to Puglia-generally we holiday in France during the summer.

We were delighted with our choice this year and had an amazing time

Maura was so friendly and helpful but also very unobtrusive. It was fantastic to arrive late to a welcome hamper and the offer to phone for pizzas for us-Angelo's pizzas were delicious and arrived after 15 minutes!

Maura's villa is really beautiful-the website does not really do it justice. The trulli kitchen was so tastefully fitted and opened up on to a very large terrace with a comfy sitting area, a marble table with a wrought iron pergola(which looked beautiful at night when lit up with fairy lights!) and a barbecue built into the terrace.

We loved having so many different areas to sit, including the front verandah overlooking the Canale di Pirro and of course the wonderful pool area at the bottom of the steps.

We visited several local towns, generally in the mornings before it got too hot(Alberobello, Ostuni, Locorotondo)-we particularly enjoyed our lunches at the seafood shack Alba Chiara right on the sea just past Savelletri.

We really enjoyed spending time at the pool and the villa-often eating the fantastic local food(great food bought very cheaply at the market in Locorotondo and wine from the Cantina in Locorotondo)

We found Alberobello easy to get to for evening meals and our favourite restaurants were La Cantina, Fidelio and Gli Ulivi-great experiences.

We would love to visit again at some point!

fantastic week!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our week in Puglia! With regard to your villa, what can we say! We loved it! It was exactly what we needed to end our holiday with. It was in a beautiful position, excellently equipped, very comfortable, a real home from home! For me personally, my favourite bit was my own trulli kitchen! Ray may have told you that we were hardly away from the villa all week! We loved playing Perudo, cards, water volleyball, etc and just chilling by the pool as a family. The little we saw of the surrounding area we thought was really lovely. We didn't get around to swimming in the sea, but thought the coast was so unspoilt with development, which we loved. It is definitely an area of Italy that we would like to visit again, (and if we did so, would certainly like to stay in your villa again!)So now it is back to work for us all here, with fantastic memories and photos of our italian adventure to keep. We are all just very glad that we chose to stay in your villa!Thank you for a lovely week,

The perfect place to chill

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to completely chill out. We had a great time visiting the many lovely and very accessible villages within 20 minutes of the villa as well as the grotto and the beach. The four restaurants recommended in the housebook that we selected were all excellent but best of all was the villa itself with great views, total comfort both inside and out and just a terrific ambiance. We felt relaxed within five minutes of arriving and stayed that way until the minute we left. Ray was the perfect host and made us feel at completely at home - we nearly decided not to leave we felt so good. Philip and Eva were also very kind and welcoming. Thanks to you all and we will definately be back.

Excellent accomodation and lovely people

  • 4 of 5

I'd just like to say how much we enjoyed staying at the villa - it is in a beautiful location, very comfortable and very well equipped. We also enjoyed the pool very much and had a very relaxing time.

We particularly liked the restaurants in Selva di Fasano (can't remember the name but is in villa book of recommendations), the beach bar at Savelletri for lunch (again can't remember name but in book) and last but not least La Cantina in Alberobello - only 35 covers so you need to try to book - you watch your food being prepared and the food is excellent and not expensive.

We did quite a bit of travelling around and were most impressed with Alberobello (15 minutes drive), Matera (45 minutes) and the coast west of Taranto - miles and miles of sandy beaches.

All of the people we met were very friendly and we would also like to make a special mention for Angelo, Angela, Martino and Mimo who were all very charming and helpful.”

Honeymoon in Italy

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Mauras villa for 2 weeks in July - what a fantastic place to spend our honeymoon, we loved the Trulli kitchen and spent lovely evenings drinking the local wine and bbq-ing on the upper patio. The pool was lovely, always a great temperature, well maintained and clean, a great area to relax and sunbathe.

We particularly loved Alberobello - I know the books describe it as over touristy - but the buildings are beautiful, the people friendly and the cocktails lovely! - we also happened to be there during the Trulli festival which was colourful and entertaining! We spent lots of time wandering Cisternino, Ostuni, Locorotondo and Martina Franca all very different in character and well worth a visit or 2! We caught a sunday morning outdoor mini opera in Cisternino which was very special and very Italian - try to get there if you can - we didn't understand a word - but hey! it was great!

Lovely beaches just 20 - 30 minutes away from the villa, from quiet little coves to the busiest beach we have ever seen at Torre Canne (only go there if if don't mind crowds and love to people watch!) - the vendors 'walk' their 'shops' up and down the beach - no hint of hassling you though and very entertaining to watch!

For a very special evening we visited Polignano a Mare, we stayed and dined at the Grotta Palazzese Hotel - restaurant expensive but dining in a cave overlooking the sea - a fantastic setting and outstanding food.

Maura was particularly helpful at home and it was good to have Angelo in Italy to answer questions and help us out... we adored our time, overall, a great location and a fantastic villa

Puglian Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We both greatly enjoyed our months’ stay in Maura’s villa in Puglia, the villa was perfect for us plenty of space pleasingly and comfortably furnished and well equipped. Outside also works well, at the upper level a barbecue and shaded dining table ideal for al fresco dining down below the pool, great to cool off after a day exploring or just to lounge beside. The location is good on the north side of the valley with great views and within striking distance of a choice of the many interesting and visually appealing Puglian towns. Everywhere we went we found very good places to eat. Angelo’s three minutes from the villa was good and Angelo was a much appreciated source for advice and help, Alberobello and Cisternino, both lovely towns, are within comfortable distance for evening dining with a good choice of restaurants many of which are listed in Maura’s very useful yellow book.

This was our first venture as far south in Italy and the holiday was a great success not least because of the quality of the villa as our base.

We would certainly reccomend the villa both for its quality and its location in a great part of the world.

Owner's Response: We are absolutely delighted that you enjoyed your month at our villa and that our little yellow book come in useful. We are very grateful to our clients for their feedback on the local area and restaurants etc which means that we have been able to compile a fairly useful information booklet. It is also really nice to hear that clients enjoy the view across the valley too, we love it but then again we are biased!

The wonderful thing about the local towns is that they all have their own character with historical centres quite unspoilt by new development. Within 10 minutes is Fasano, a modern town with banks, supermarkets, restaurants and an interesting old centre, Locorotondo, a hilltop town of remarkable circular design with whitewashed houses and a large ‘cantina’ selling excellent local wine, historic Alberobello a UNESCO heritage site and a unique and fascinating place to explore its thousands of trulli. Within 20 minutes is Martina Franca an elegant baroque town, ‘Cisternino famous for its gastronomy, and hilltop Ostuni known as the ‘White City’ as it glows day and night. Nearby is Castellana Grotte famed as the most spectacular limestone caves in Italy, the archaeological ruins of Egnazia, a Graeco-Messapian town and seaport, and a Zoo Safari Park, ideal family fun. A quick 10 minutes takes you to a selection of sandy beaches/coves and 5 minutes to the village bars, restaurants & shop.
