About Kathryn Y Menefee Alves

I originally purchased the house in 1998 after graduating from Nursing School. I raised my daughters there and my oldest daughter still lives in the area and is involved in helping me with the house. My husband is a fire fighter and I am a Nurse Practitioner. We love to camping with our children and grandchildren, traveling, fishing, friends and making the most of life. .

Why Kathryn Y Menefee Alves chose Oregon

The log cabin is warm, cozy and inviting. The warm wood wraps you up and makes you feel at peace and relaxed. The deer frequently come to visit. Whether you are sitting in the living room, the kitchen, sitting on the front porch or back yard you are surrounded by trees and nature. This area is very quiet and at night on a clear night, it is magical. Rivers, lakes and mountains near by. But a short drive to Bend and you have options of theaters, upscale or outlet shopping, even more restaurants and the unique downtown or old mill area. With so much to offer so close, you are bound to find something to fill your soul.

What makes this cabin unique

I have always loved log homes. I love the cozy feel, the way it looks, feels and how it makes me feel closer to nature. The great room design makes it socializing with friends or family easy. The front porch is a great place to start the day with a cup of coffee or end it, reminiscing of all the fun you had that day. The sunsets in the fall are amazing. The snow in the winter, magical. The spring rains make everything green again and is a great time to get that last fire in the stove in and appreciated. Summers outside and floating down the Deschutes is a great way to spend a hot day. With so many things to offer and all the seasons, how could we not love this place.

Enjoyable time

  • 4 of 5

We had a good experience at Cabin Sweet Cabin. The place was decorate nicely with a cabin-y feel. The queen size bed was very firm and the double bed is extremely soft. We were surprised to find basic cable and no wifi but it forced us to disconnect for the time there. Large selection of good movies and books. Well stocked kitchen, would have like to not be limited to 3 dishwasher tabs for the 4 days we were there over Thanksgiving week, but I guess that's what we had kids for to hand wash. Washer/dryer was great, hot tub was older and didn't seem like the temperature was accurate but the kids enjoyed using it. There were a 2 board games but one seemed that the dice (needed to play, Yahtzee) walked away from it. All in all it was a good base camp for exploring through the area, the Christmas lights made for a fun experience with the holidays. Nice cozy, warm place and the woodstove made for the perfect place to connect while the snow gently fell. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

This spot was perfect. Clean, well equipped, perfect in everyday. My 2.5 year old grandson walked the front porch looking for dear several times a day,my wife and I soaked ourselves in the hot tube and late at night we looked at the stars.

Nice Place for a Family Getaway

  • 4 of 5

The Sweet Log Cabin was a nice home base for our family vacation to Central Oregon. A little off the beaten path, but easy access to all the natural wonders of the area. The home itself was a cozy place for us to chill out in (which was important with two small children). The kids took immediately to the home. Set themselves up quickly and enjoyed watching movies on the big tv, the closet of toys, and loved the hot tub and playing in the yard. I liked the big kitchen to make our meals and took to it quickly (we rarely ate out). I never felt I was lacking the comforts of home. We ended up spending a lot of time in the home itself -- which should speak to the warmth of the home.

Other plus: the front porch was a great spot to hang out in.

Notes: If you are vacationing there, I recommend you bring groceries with you or do your shopping in Bend -- as the nearest store is the Sunriver Country Store -- it is well-stocked, but is pricey. Just plan in advance and you're good. Also, if you plan to do multiple loads of laundry, I recommend bringing some detergent as there was just a bit available. None of these are a big deal, but good to know in advance.

Definitely a recommendation for a home base in Central Oregon.

Comfy and convenient to Sunriver and to surrounding outdoor activities!

  • 5 of 5

From the responsive and friendly landlord to the beautiful and comfortable cabin and property, our stay was very, very enjoyable! We will certainly return to Sunriver for our fishing trip hopefully at least once a year and when we do, this rental will be our first choice! The description and photos were very helpful in our initial decision to stay there, the cabin is beautiful and well maintained and has many comforts of home including a hot tub! The owner was very responsive and helpful and provided wonderful customer service! I highly recommend this property if you stay anywhere near Sunriver or Bend, Oregon! There are so many outdoor activities nearby no matter which season you are visiting Central Oregon! We fished Crane Prairie Lake and East Lake, but there is so much more to do! Summer: biking, hiking, horsebackriding, floating the Deschutes River, etc. Winter: skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, ice skating, etc.

You are also close to Deschutes river, several lakes and trails. The best thing about this property is that you are close to everything and can get away from it all as well.
