My wife and I have been renting out our holiday cottages in Brixham for over 20 years.
Mr Peter Gribbin purchased this cottage in 1993
Spacious harbour cottage with stunning harbour views in a picturesque south facing location. Blue Skies is a very close walk to the harbourside bars, shops and restaurants and it is fortunate to have one of the rare rear patios which overlook the inner harbour.
Back in Germany after 2 weeks in this lovely cottage we would like to thank for a wonderful holiday in Brixham!
The views from the dining room, main bedroom and terrace were so fantastic (at the "Brixfest" we had the best view in town for the fireworks, we believe!), the big table in the dining room was very good for breakfast or playing games, and in the kitchen you can find anything you need. We used 2 of the bedrooms, the main and the one at the top, and so it was a very good training for us with all the steps in the house, but no problem at all.
As recommended, we parked our car at the top of the hill, and with all the very good connections by bus or ferry we only needed the car once in two weeks.
There are many nice things to do or visit round Brixham, especially Dartmouth with its castle and the river Dart-cruise to Totnes, or by ferry to Torquay, or just a walk on the coastal path to Berry Head or tn the other direction to Paignton with nice little beaches on the way.
In the south of Dartmouth Slapton sands and Bee Sands especially via coastal path from Torcross (good café!) are very nice to walk.
In Brixham you can find anything you need for shops , restaurants and pubs. We really liked "Poopdeck" with its fresh fish of the day and the fine possibility to choose between new potatoes (delicious!)or chips, fish grilled in oil or butter..
We would recommend "Blue Skies" very highly, for families or just friends like ourselves. (Only exception would be people who have difficulties with steps) .
And we would like to thank Peter for his help and information before our arrival, we would like to come back some time!
We are now retired and have taken holidays in Brixham on and off for over 40 years. We know the place. In all that time, and having stayed at a range of accommodation types, it is no exaggeration to say that Little Blue Skies ticked every box for us. It may have been our first visit there - it won't be our last. Like others we parked our car locally on the road for the week and then made extensive use of our "Old Git" bus passes. The views from the main bedroom, dining room and patio are superb and talk about all the steps up from the harbour are exaggerated. if you want views you have to go UP and there are alternative ways to the cottage. The property was very clean, attractive and extremely well equipped and if you are thinking of booking stop thinking and do it - you won't be disappointed. We are already planning our next visit!
We have recently returned home after a short break staying in this delightful home. Everything we wanted, lovely views, fully equipped, not far into town and lots to do in the area. It was great to leave the car alone and walk everywhere or catch the bus. If you are here for one week would recommend getting the weekly bus pass, around £17. I definitely recommend Blue Skies and hope that one day we will return.
we have only arrived back home today and all ready missing the cottage, had a fantastic stay very pleased with the whole cottage the views from the main bedroom window and the other two rooms over looking the south side of the harbour are picturesque .
Every morning sitting at the dining table at breakfast was a treat to watch the world go by down below in the harbour.
The kitchen was really impressive well equiped, we have never been on holiday before to a place where all the small things are there that you may sometimes forget ie salt pepper clingfilm ,i even took my own pegs to discover there were all ready some by the line .
We didn't feel on top of one another either as there as two sitting rooms one we used regular the dining room which has stunning views of the harbour which has a tv and cd player and the kitchen opposite and we also used the the sitting room at the bottom of the cottage below the main bedroom for chilling with a dvd in the evening; my husband liked to call it the man cave haha :) the patio area which leads off the man cave is a sun trap as described in the advert lovely to sit and enjoy a glass of wine .
The top bedroom at the very top of the cottage has steep stairs but my teenage daughter was very happy up there .
There are many different ways down to the harbour some nice strolls down the slopes or different sets of steps, 101 one way and alot less on the other. My legs have definitely had a work out.
We recommend the large old market restaurant on the harbour next to the ship lovely food great service and a 5 minute walk from the cottage Berry head is definitely a must to visit i have never seen anything so beautiful in my life .
the only problem we had was the parking you are very lucky to have a space opposite free we had to park most of the time in nearby streets which we didnt like the idea of but they were safe and right outside houses .
Overall we loved blue skies and would definitely come back and recommend to others and the owner is very friendly very helpful communication is spot on thank you for a enjoyable holiday in Brixham
This cottage is absolutely superb, the view is amazing, the house is like a tardis, furnishing is lovely, best equipped kitchen i've ever seen, delightful art and decor, highly recommend but BEWARE, there are 105 steps down to the quay, which after an evening out are a killer!!
Enjoy short strolls around the beautiful Brixham harbour to a variety of character inns, restaurants and cafes selling local produce and the catch of the day. Walk along the spectacular coastal path or experience the beauty of Dartmoor, then rest your feet at a traditional Devon pub. Sailors can enjoy boat trips from Brixham to either Torquay or the historic town of Dartmouth for regatta week or cruise up the Dart estuary to the Elizabethan market town of Totnes.
Take a splash at the local, free, open air pool, the Rivera Centre with wave pool or the spectacular Quaywest waterpark. Spot your ancestor at award winning Paignton Zoo, ruin a good walk at Churston Golf Club, experience an outdoor music spectacular at Powderham Castle or treat yourself to a night at the Festival Theatre. The scope for a varied and exciting holiday is endless.
