This great location is in the ideal spot for hiking the Adirondack Mountains, fishing in the Au Sable River, Skiing at Whiteface Mountain, or watching the ironman race. Once a restaurant, this home has been completely renovated.
Open spaces with the comfort of home. The bathroom and kitchen areas have been completely renovated to include easy to use appliances as well as two new bedrooms and a fun enclosed shower with radio and lighting. You will be pleasantly surprised by the artistic touches created by the owners sister. The entire living area is open to the dining room and extra sleeping area with a futon. Open the windows to the fresh air and enjoy the mountain views from the back porch and bedrooms. The property borders state land and is walking distance to the local bakery. Across the street you can also shop at Young's Gallery with a guest discount.
The house is located off of route 86. Lots of parking and space to bring your toys (bikes, canoes, skis, etc). No long dirt roads in the woods to plow!
Interaction with Guests:
We are located only a five minute drive and will be available with any questions and we will happily make suggestions or steer you in the right direction.
Jay is a small, quiet town. On Saturdays in the summer, make sure to enjoy the free music on the green. The swimming hole which we call the "rapids" is one mile from the rental. It's a great place to cool off. Whiteface Mountain is 6 miles away.
You will see many bikers on our roads during the summer months. Route 86 will take you to Wilmington and Lake Placid and Route 9 will take you to Lake Champlain and Plattsburgh. Montreal is an hour and half drive away.
We have traveled to many countries and states and feel happiest in the Adirondack Mountains. This is the reason we wanted to find a home to share with other travelers for them to take in the beauty of the park and enjoy the quiet county life that the town of Jay has to offer. Locally the area is full of many nature based opportunities from hiking, rafting, swimming, skiing, and site seeing. If you need to do something tourist based, there are many restaurants and events in Lake Placid which is a 20 minute drive.
This home was once a restaurant that sat vacant for 15 years, but it had good bones. We created two bedrooms from the kitchen and bathroom space and refinished the sunroom. Every room has a unique touch.
We stayed a week from Aug 13 to 20. We had a few things planned for the area and found more to do. Our 2 favorites were Ausable Chasm and rail biking with Rail Explorers in Saranac Lake. We were pleasantly surprised to see how close Whiteface Mt and Lake Placid really were. Elenor was great with being in close contact with us for any questions we had with a quick response time. We were happy to hear there was a grill on the deck and used it several nights. The beds were comfortable and we loved the skylight with mural in the Zzz room! The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for our basic meals. We certainly had all the conveniences of home, which truly made it feel like a home away from home. I would recommend this and Elenor to anyone. This was our first experience with Home Away (VRBO) and I really hope any future experiences are just as good!
My friend and I chose this location primarily as a good staging point for summer hiking in the High Peaks -- only a half hour's drive to the Great Range, Marcy, and Lake Placid area. We found the accommodations to be inviting, with a lovely sitting area to relax in after a long day hiking, and a very well-stocked kitchen! The space was very restful and I would recommend it for those interested in seeing the northern Adirondack/Lake Placid area.
Elenor's home is wonderful. It was filled with all these unique antique items that gave it character yet at the same time the home was refurbished and had modern amenities. The bathroom shower was super cool and the deck was great and spacious as well as the backyard, which was great for making a campfire and hanging out at night.
The house was beautiful and in an excellent location. Conveniently located minutes from the mountain ranges, lake placid, and whiteface. The owner was easy to contact and responded to all my questions very quickly. The owner provided towels, games, cooking spray, toilet paper, etc. (all the things you forget to pack on your own). It was a nice surprise, and went above what I expected. The place was pet friendly which was a huge plus for me. My dogs loved running around in the big backyard. If ever in the area I would definitely stay here again.
Wonderful, comfortable cozy home. the owner was great and easy to reach when booking and during our stay. Amazing views of mountains all around lots to do and see if you enjoy nature and the outdoors.
We are a family of 5 and spent 3 nights in this lovely home. We had a very relaxing stay. Our 3 boys loved playing in the backyard and we made smores in the fire pit two of the nights we were there. We were close enough to explore the Lake Placid area and do lots of hiking. The boys enjoyed the beach in Wilmington as well. This is a gem and we would stay here again in a heartbeat if ever in the area.
