About the property

Mountainview home on one acre

This great location is in the ideal spot for hiking the Adirondack Mountains, fishing in the Au Sable River, Skiing at Whiteface Mountain, or watching the ironman race. Once a restaurant, this home has been completely renovated.

The Space:

Open spaces with the comfort of home. The bathroom and kitchen areas have been completely renovated to include easy to use appliances as well as two new bedrooms and a fun enclosed shower with radio and lighting. You will be pleasantly surprised by the artistic touches created by the owners sister. The entire living area is open to the dining room and extra sleeping area with a futon. Open the windows to the fresh air and enjoy the mountain views from the back porch and bedrooms. The property borders state land and is walking distance to the local bakery. Across the street you can also shop at Young's Gallery with a guest discount.

Guest Access:

The house is located off of route 86. Lots of parking and space to bring your toys (bikes, canoes, skis, etc). No long dirt roads in the woods to plow!

Interaction with Guests:

We are located only a five minute drive and will be available with any questions and we will happily make suggestions or steer you in the right direction.

The Neighborhood:

Jay is a small, quiet town. On Saturdays in the summer, make sure to enjoy the free music on the green. The swimming hole which we call the "rapids" is one mile from the rental. It's a great place to cool off. Whiteface Mountain is 6 miles away.

Getting Around:

You will see many bikers on our roads during the summer months. Route 86 will take you to Wilmington and Lake Placid and Route 9 will take you to Lake Champlain and Plattsburgh. Montreal is an hour and half drive away.

About Elenor

Our family is a blend of two. Between us, we have 5 children. Most are grown, but our 11 year old keeps us busy traveling with his sports. We live in this small town of Jay and enjoy being able to wake up each morning surrounded by our mountain views. It's quiet and peaceful and full of open spaces. We enjoy meeting new people. One of us was born and raised in the area and the other came to living here by way of Plattsburgh Air Force Base.

Elenor purchased this house in 2014

Why Elenor chose Jay

We have traveled to many countries and states and feel happiest in the Adirondack Mountains. This is the reason we wanted to find a home to share with other travelers for them to take in the beauty of the park and enjoy the quiet county life that the town of Jay has to offer. Locally the area is full of many nature based opportunities from hiking, rafting, swimming, skiing, and site seeing. If you need to do something tourist based, there are many restaurants and events in Lake Placid which is a 20 minute drive.

What makes this house unique

This home was once a restaurant that sat vacant for 15 years, but it had good bones. We created two bedrooms from the kitchen and bathroom space and refinished the sunroom. Every room has a unique touch.

Our family had a wonderful vacation.

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's first visit to the Adirondack Mountains. We had a great time and plan to visit again. Our VRBO was perfect for us. It was a nice place to return to after a long day of sightseeing. The VRBO was centrally located to every activity on our itinerary. We would definitely rent from Elenor on our next visit.

The location is absolutely central to all we love... water, mountains and fresh air.

I would recommend this rental without question. It is on a main road without landscaping to buffer traffic noise. However we were gone exploring all day so that it was not much of an issue. If you keep the bedroom windows closed, you won't hear the morning folks. The only mentions I would offer as alerts to future renters are to bring all your own condiments such as ketchup and mustard and basics for cooking such as oil and vinegar. There was no hand soap in the bathroom although there was shampoo and conditioner.

We are a family of four, 2 adults and 2 college age kids.

Perfect Home-Base for IM 2017

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at Elenor's house for Ironman week of 2017. The house was just what we needed - large living area for comfortable lounging, and a huge deck for family BBQ. The house is right on the bike course, so we had family and friends hang out at the house to watch the race. It's a good 1/2 hr from downtown lake placid; we prefer the serenity away from downtown and proximity to the shops at Keene, so it was perfect for us. We were a little concerned about the house being so close to the road (noise), but the bedrooms are situated in the back so it wasn't an issue at all. Would definitely book again!

Great property near Whiteface mountain.

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay. Elenor was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had. We visited the local swimming hole, ate at many local restaurants, and got in lots of hiking (high peaks and waterfalls). The house is well laid out for hanging out with the family after a good day of activities with a large, open family room / dining area. Appreciated that the house was well equipped with towels, linens, soap, etc. It worked great for all of our needs.

What a great home

  • 4 of 5

We had such a nice stay at this charming home. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. While we stayed here to attend a graduation we did get to take advantage of a trip to Lake Placid, Ausable Chasm and a few of the other outdoor activities, which seem to around every corner. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone.

Awesome stay! Would highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week from Aug 13 to 20. We had a few things planned for the area and found more to do. Our 2 favorites were Ausable Chasm and rail biking with Rail Explorers in Saranac Lake. We were pleasantly surprised to see how close Whiteface Mt and Lake Placid really were. Elenor was great with being in close contact with us for any questions we had with a quick response time. We were happy to hear there was a grill on the deck and used it several nights. The beds were comfortable and we loved the skylight with mural in the Zzz room! The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for our basic meals. We certainly had all the conveniences of home, which truly made it feel like a home away from home. I would recommend this and Elenor to anyone. This was our first experience with Home Away (VRBO) and I really hope any future experiences are just as good!
