So happy that we were allowed to stay in your incredibly beautiful home. Beautiful nature in the area. And those cute puffins. The fishermen we met and the fresh crab that we ate. Everything was there, we enjoyed it so much. Thank you so much Jill . Loves from Belgium xxx
spectacular, comfortable home
We really enjoyed our week here. The owner is very responsive, the house has almost every amenity, including great bedding and showers, well-equipped kitchen. The location is perfect for exploring northern Scotland and is only 15 minutes from the ferry to the Orkney Islands. A large Tesco supermarket is just ten minutes away. The house is very special, and a local landmark. The walls are so thick that no outside noise is heard at all! The weather was typically Scottish, so we enjoyed the three fireplaces!
It was so lovely getting to know you all as you planned your trip and enjoyed the natural beauty of Keiss and Caithness. I almost hate to say it - but we had a pod of orcas 100 metres off the harbour wall just yesterday! They put on an incredible show. Would love to have these guests back anytime.
beautiful, beautiful, beuatiful!!!
many thanks for being in Keiss Harbour House, it was very amazing, beautiful and very fine holidays, because of the Charakter of the amazing house.
happy greatings to Jill
Clean, cosy and spacious property
Property was clean and tidy on our arrival, the under floor heating kept it warm, although we had good weather as well. The complimentary whiskey was much appreciated and the dogs enjoyed the nearby walks. The beds were very comfortable!
We'd have these lovely guests anytime! So glad you enjoyed yourselves and made the most of nice weather and the great outdoors. Kind regards, Jill
Gorgeous, and Great Location!
This house is a little off the beaten path (about ten miles north of Wick) but we will definitely stay here again if we return to the area. The home is huge, and absolutely beautiful inside - we called it Our Castle. The scenery is incredible - sunrises over the water were phenomenal. If you want a special experience, invite your friends or family to share this home with you!
Thank you for the thoughtful words. We are delighted that you enjoyed not only the house but the stunning Caithness coast. We look forward to having you again one day!
We could not have wished for a better stay and experience at the harbour house!
Myself and a group of friends stayed here last month and had an amazing weekend away! Such a stunning location wether you want to explore locally or further afield! The pictures don’t do the location justice and the interior decor was beautiful. Such a large space even being in a large group the rooms still felt spacious. We only had one issue with the water and it was solved extremely quickly and easily! The owner kept in contact and very friendly, approachable. We all agreed we’d definitely return here again and were very happy with our stay.
Thank you for your kind words Rebecca! We loved having you and are so glad you enjoyed the house and the beautiful Caithness coast. We're so sorry about the water - you always hope these things don't happen but you were really fantastic about it all and we greatly appreciate it! Would love to have you all back.
Whether you are on a family holiday, sporting break or get-together of friends, you will find plenty to do with easy access from the house.
The sandy links course of Wick Golf Club is five minutes drive away, as is the surfers mecca of Sinclair's Bay. There are further renowned surfing beaches, around Thurso and Strathy, within half an hours drive. Fishing on nearby rivers and lochs is available, or you can fish off the harbour wall!
The Queen Mother's house, the Castle of Mey, is a moving and interesting place to visit, within half an hour's drive. Heritage Museums in Wick and Thurso provide a fascinating insight into the history of Caithness, and numerous archaeological sites such as the Cairns of Camster and Yarrows Archaeological Trail show the ancient civilisation of the area.
A day trip to see the sights of Orkney is a must, with Orkney less than an hour away by ferry from Gills Bay or John o' Groats, both around 15 min drive from the house.
Dunnet Bay Distillery offers tours of their gin and vodka production, as well as the historic Old Pulteney Distillery in Wick (all ten minutes from the house.
From the doorstep of the Harbour House, you can walk to beaches in either direction - both rocky and sandy. Every step is a walk through history - as you walk north from the driveway of the house you will see the cliff-side ruins of 16th-century Old Keiss Castle which was replaced by the current 'newer' house in 1755. Between the house and the castle, you will pass the remains of two ancient iron-age brochs, and a WWII 'pillbox'. Situated in Sinclair's Bay, the Harbour House looks directly across at Noss Head Lighthouse and Sinclair-Girnigoe Castle which comprise impressive 15th-century ruins which you can walk around in.
Keiss Harbour House is the heart of the historic harbour in the village of Keiss. The house directly overlooks the harbour, which is still used by fishing boats. On sunny days, the harbour provides a delightful area for sitting outside, watching the boats come and go. The fishermen still use the cellars below the house to store nets etc and you can usually buy fresh crab and lobster right off the boats.
