About Mr Colin Smith
I am a retired teacher, teaching for 38 years in Special Education. I retired 10 years ago and followed my dreams of purchasing a property in the beautiful Lake District. My wife also was in the teaching profession and was head for most of her career. In her final 6 years she was chief executive of 3 schools all on the same site, a comprehensive, primary and special school. She was honoured in the Queens birthday honours in 2001 and was made a Dame. My hobbies are mainly sport now, playing golf, skiing, cycling a couple of times a week and I enjoy walking in the fells.
Mr Colin Smith purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Mr Colin Smith chose Penrith
The price, location and the property itself seemed to fit everything we wanted. The locals are all great, very friendly and close to pubs with restaurants.
What makes this Cottage unique
Close to Lake Ullswater and M6, 3 bedrooms, lovely garden, great pub and local hotel in a very friendly village.
Cancelled bookings will not receive a refund.
The house had everything we could possibly need, however , the cot was broken so we had to go buy a new one.
Attention to detail regarding the finer points of cleanliness should I feel could have been better.
The gardens were very well kept and child friendly.
The quality of bedding was really good and very clean.
Lovely cottage in great location
A really nice cottage with everything we needed for our trip to the lakes. Very comfortable and plenty of local information provided and the cottage is definitely set up with walkers in mind. Local pub was great. Good atmosphere and food.
Within easy reach of some fantastic walks and lovely scenery

Comfortable and cosy...
Well equipped house in quiet village. Had a lovely meal at local Hotel which caters for gluten free.
Stainton is ideally placed to enjoy the Northern Lake District and Eden Valley. It is only 10 minutes from the market town of Penrith with a wealth of shops, pubs, restaurants and famous open air Saturday market.
The area is ideal for walking, Helvellyn and Blencathra are only a short ride away. The tranquil lanes are ideal for cycling and Stainton is on the Coast to Coast route.
Stainton itself has a village inn and hotel only yards away with superb food, post office, small shop, farm shop and the Rheged Discovery Centre is minutes away.
Rheged has a multi plex cinema and sells local goods in its shopping complex.
Within yards of the house is the Alpaca centre. The market town of Keswick is 14 miles with its numerous climbing and walking shops as well as a range of restaurants and cafes.
Lake Ullswater, often described as the most romantic lake , is only three and a half miles from the house.
