Perfect property in a small quiet village

  • 5 of 5

We needed holiday rental for 5 people and our dog, after finding Smithy House the owner Colin made the booking very easy, When we arrived at the property it was lovely and warm throughout, the facilities were just to our needs , We were amazed at the quality of furniture and kitchen extremely well supplied with cooking implements, slow cooker, George Foreman, and others, The living room had a log burner which was great in the evenings, , the bedrooms had lovely bedding and mattress toppers so a great nights sleep, I cannot find anything to complain about the property , the location is ideal , close to the M6 and easy to get to other places, we were very sad to leave the property after such a comfortable week, Highly advise to book this property,

Quality Property, professional and attentive owner

  • 5 of 5

Right from the initial inquiry Colin the owner was quick to respond to my requests and this was maintained throughout the booking process and through to post stay email.

The house is obviously well maintained, filled with good quality furniture, really comfortable, warm beds with expensive bedding.

Nice touches included a complimentary drinks cabinet, iPod/phone docks in all the rooms, slippers and quality toiletries.

The photos do the property justice, its lovely.

We had a quiet weekend, only leaving to have a wander round Keswick and down to the Brantwood Hotel for a nice meal.

The house is really handy for travelling, so simple to get to from the M6 & A66.

I have already recommended it to friends.

Don't hesitate to book if it ticks all your boxes!

We did not want to leave!!

  • 5 of 5

An absolute treat to stay in this beautiful house. We arrived Friday evening to this spotless welcoming home. There was drinks laid out inviting us to have one with a handwritten note from the owners and a lovely pot of jam too. The house is gorgeous and spacious, each room with its own charm. The owners have put so much thought into it, the whole family felt at home. We stayed for the weekend but wished it could be longer! We will be recommending this to everybody who wants a relaxing break in a home from home. Colin the owner was great to deal with, a real nice experience. We will hopefully returning again, a dream house to remember!

Smithy House

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fabulous weekend at Smithy Cottage. My six-year-old son was completely overwhelmed when he entered the place for the first time. To quote: "Mammy this is adorable! I cannot believe that we are sleeping here for two whole nights!" The owners have a wonderful ability to put themselves in the shoes of the guests and have provided luxury comforts that I would never have thought of to make the stay a memorable one. The log fire was even set ready to light when we arrived. I wanted somewhere where I could celebrate my 40th birthday with my family and my friend's young family. This was ideal and exceeded my expectations. The children loved the place. Its location is central to lots of activities such as the nearby Alpaca farm and one or two petting zoos. The local pub provided a friendly place to have a lovely meal with the youngsters and when they were tucked up in bed us adults could take advantage of the blazing log fire. The slipper bath was a lovely treat with hot water readily available. The kitchen was amazing and we loved cooking up a real feast on the Saturday evening. It houses everything you need from washing machine and dishwasher to a fantastic cooking range and it is very clean. Both of the big bedrooms were very luxurious and the twin bedroom was a great place for the kids. I would highly recommend this cottage to friends and people who want to have a special week/weekend away. It is ideally located for those who like walking and cycling being so close to Ullswater. It is a lovely romantic get away for couples and it is a lovely place to take a young family and enjoy many of the activities in the area. I cannot rate it highly enough and would like to thank the owners for making my 40th birthday a special occasion to remember!

Just spent four days in this fabulous property set in the lovely village of Stainton. House is finished to a very high standard with everying you could want for an excellent holiday. Tradional features have been retained but all mod cons are there - dishwasher, washing machine etc.etc. We found it very handy to have a large en suite bedroom on the ground floor where my son/wife and his two young children could sleep whilst we used the large double upstairs. There is also a further twin bedroom upstairs.

Garden is very nice and gets the sun all day. We enjoyed a BBQ one night in the late evening sun. Pooley Bridge/Ullswater is about 5mins away by car and we found this an excellent base for exploring the Lakes area. Very handing to have large Morrisons superstore only 10mins away in Penrith. Also enjoyed an excellent meal in the Brantwood Hotel a short stroll away.

I would have no hesitation in highly recommending this property which is even better than the photos suggest. You will not be dissappointed !
