3 bedroomed house in village location close to Lake Ullswater

Smithy House dates back to the 1700s and has retained much of its traditional charm and character. It is set in the old part of Stainton on the village green.

Smithy House has its own mature gardens and is ideal for those looking for a retreat away from the madding crowds but within easy reach of the many activities Cumbria has to offer. It is beautifully furnished and is a comfortable base to explore the Lake District.

Smithy House has been awarded 4 star Gold Award by Visit Britain.

Smithy house is gas centrally heated and comprises, lounge with digital TV,DVD player, docking station, unlimited wifi,Hi-fi, log burning stove and 3 and 2 seated settee and a cot. Dining/kitchen has a gas Esse range cooker, fridge/freezer and microwave. The utility room has washer/drier cooker and dishwasher.

Master double bedroom with King size oak bed and furniture and en-suite bathroom with cast iron slipper bath, hand basin and WC. First floor has a twin bedroom with built in wardrobe and flat screen tv and dvd. The double bedroom has a four poster king sized mahogany bed and matching furniture, superb buit in shower and hand basin. The bathroom has shower, hand basin and WC.

There is private parking for 2 cars. Large lawned garden with patio and garden furniture.

Stainton is ideally placed to enjoy the Northern Lake District and the Eden Valley being only 3.5 miles from Pooley Bridge and Lake Ullswater.

Penrith a market town is only 10 minutes away, here there are a variety of shops, restaurants, supermarkets, pubs and a large open air Saturday market.

There are superb opportunities for mountain and road cycling. The owner has left a mountain bike in the shed for your use and suggests the ride to Mungrisedale, Pooley Bridge or off road along the old coach road to Keswick.

Walkers can take local walksand there is a lovely walk to the village of Dacre which has a pub. Serious walkers can attempt Blencathra and Helvelyn which are only a short car drive away.

Stainton has a village pub, hotel,shop,post office,local farm shop and a church and the Rheged Discovery Centre is within walking distance.

All gas, electric, logs, bed linen and towels included.

I am a retired teacher, teaching for 38 years in Special Education. I retired 7 years ago and followed my dreams of purchasing a property in the beautiful Lake District.

My hobbies are mainly sport now playing golf, cycle a couple of times a week, enjoy walking in the fells.

Wonderful family weekend away

We visited over the May bank holiday weekend. The property is located in a quaint little village with a lovely pub that does a great Sunday lunch. The hotel looked nice too but we didn’t get chance to visit as we we spent most of our time soaking up the sun in lovely garden of the property.

The property is in an easy to reach location and was the perfect home for a family of 6 for the weekend.

The house had everything that was needed and we would visit again.

The perfect home from home

We booked Smithy House in April 2018 as we were attending a family function a few miles away in Glenridding. Six of us stayed at the house – my husband and I with our baby, my parents and my sister. We all fell in love with the place as soon as we walked in. It was immaculately clean and the décor is lovely, just right for a relaxing stay. The kitchen was very well appointed with everything you would need and more - and everything was easy to find.

The downstairs bedroom and ensuite was fantastic for my parents as my father has mobility issues and can’t get up and down stairs very easily.

The upstairs double was lovely and comfortable (very comfy beds!) with plenty of space to put up the travel cot. Both upstairs showers were also great – good pressure and heat. There were no issues with the wifi connectivity – it worked everywhere in the house.

Colin, the owner, provided us with plenty of information prior to the stay and was in touch by text during our stay to check everything was going well.

Stainton is a lovely little village and ideally located for exploring around the Ullswater area and Penrith, and beyond to the wider Lake District.

We would definitely return to Smithy House for a longer stay and will be recommending it to others. We all commented that we’d actually rather like to move in!

Great house, great location

Stainton is ideally placed to enjoy the Northern Lake District and Eden Valley. It is only 10 minutes from the market town of Penrith with a wealth of shops, pubs, restaurants and famous open air Saturday market.

The area is ideal for walking, Helvellyn and Blencathra are only a short ride away. The tranquil lanes are ideal for cycling and Stainton is on the Coast to Coast route.

Stainton itself has a village inn and hotel only yards away with superb food, post office,small shop, farm shop and the Rheged Discovery Centre is minutes away.

Rheged has a multi plex cinema and sells local goods in its shopping complex.

Within yards of the house is the Alpaca centre.The market town of Keswick is 14 miles with its numerous climbing and walking shops as well as a range of restaurants and cafes.

Lake Ullswater, often described as the most romantic lake , is only three and a half miles from the house.
