Good with some eeks

  • 4 of 5

Overall my family and I enjoyed our stay here. It was spacious in the living room/dining room/kitchen area and great for entertaining and being together. It is nice sized for having children play. But depending on the age and mobility of children, be warned that there is a staircase just off the hallway which leads back to 2 bedrooms that a little one can easily fall down (again, depending on mobility). We blocked it off with a chair. There is also a big yard that is not fenced and is along a street. Depending on age of kids, supervision definitely required. Great space though!

The owners provided a tv for the living room along with a dvd player and a couple movies. We also purchased an antenna from Ulmer's while we were there and we were able to get about 10 channels.

The location of this house is great- close to everything. 5 minutes to Safeway, there are parks and museums within 10 minutes and it's a quick drive to the Homer Spit and the beaches.

We rented the car that is available to rent along with the house. It was GREAT! Gayle had it waiting for us at the airport which was incredibly convenient. She was a pleasure to communicate with throughout the process, as little things here and there came up.

The biggest downfall was the beds: they were SO hard and uncomfortable. I made the owner aware and she intends to remedy this problem. But be warned that if you stay before new ones are purchased, you will not sleep well.

This was a great house and I really enjoyed my stay with my family and friends.

Very comfortable accommodations

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place for two couples. Plenty of supplies in the kitchen to fix breakfasts and even dinner one night. Gayle was great and accommodated a last minute date change. Very much appreciated! Homer is a wonderful little town - very Alaskan! We had great meals at the Little Mermaid, Captain Patties & Cosmic Kitchen. Caught our limit of halibut on a fishing charter.

Spacious Home

  • 3 of 5

This home is large and is nice for many guests (we had 5). It is clean and in a decent location in homer, but fyi it is not close enough to walk to the spit and is about a 20 minute bike ride away. Some things that would make the place more accommodating would be a grill, a firepit/ring/bowl, & outdoor seating/dining area or picnic table. People want to be outside in Alaska and that was a challenge at this house. Wifi was terrible-- almost not worth having as it presented continual frustration to users. Also, no TV in living room and only one with dvd player in a bedroom--no cable or antenna etc. This wasn't an issue for us, but might be for some. Overall, for the value it was a good stay, but I would not stay in another place in Alaska again without a fire-pit. Missed those evening fires!

Rustic Charm

  • 4 of 5

This home is in a perfect location. It's just minutes away from shops, restaurants, and the spit. We ate out the entire time, so we didn't utilize the kitchen much. But it's fully equipped with pots, pans, kitchenware, etc. The pictures of the dining and living room is outdated. The dining table seats six, not four, and there is a leather sofa in the living room which provides more seating. All the rooms were very clean. I liked how each bathroom had complimentary shampoo, conditioner, and lotion as if you were at a hotel. I was glad to find a hairdryer on site as I didn't pack one. It was slightly cold during our stay, so we turned the heater on a couple nights. But if you don't want to use the heater, there are additional sheets and blankets available. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to friends and family.

Spotting a mother moose and her two babies just a few houses down was one of the highlights of our trip. I hope you guys would be lucky enough to encounter them on your stay.

Great Home for a Family event.

  • 4 of 5

Spent 6 nights here first week of August 2015. Searched other vacation homes in the Homer area, and settled on this one for two reasons: price and in town. We did give up a bit of a view, compared to higher priced units out of town, (though we could still see the sound a little bit from the front of the house) but we felt that's reflected in the price, compared to other units. All told, we saved a bit more than the price of a bear viewing trip for one! Worth it! The place was spic and span, really clean and nice. By all reports, all beds were extremely comfy. It was unusually warm that week (some say we brought the sun from California) so didn't test the heating. In fact, we had to open some windows to get the breeze blowing through to cool things down. Bathrooms were clean and totally functional. Prepared some lunches, and cooked breakfast every morning; all appliances in good working order. We use mostly paper plates so we wouldn't have to wash, but there are ample dishes and glassware. A new Keuring coffee maker just installed. This unit is very close to Safeway, the Spit and old town with Bishop Beach. Gayle met us upon arrival and drove us to the property. She is a jewel and eager to help. However, we got along so well at the house, we never had to call for any problems. We did miss wifi, but after going through withdrawal, found we were better off without it. Our teenaged granddaughter actually talked to us. The unit fit our needs perfectly. Would definitely stay here again and do recommend it to others.
