Set back in a sweet wooded hollow, this small modest home has an up-island feel but all the conveniences of being down island near supermarkets, restaurants, the ferry and across from the Tashmoo Overlook, down the road from Lambert's Cove. (no beach pass available for Lambert's) Our house is less than 2 miles from Oak Bluffs and less than 3 miles from West Tisbury.
Across from the entrance to our road is the Tashmoo Overlook, Tashmoo horse farm, and in summers there are Shakespeare plays up the way a bit.
During your stay enjoy Tashmoo beach, Land Bank beaches, Long Point beach and we especially love day trips to Sipiessa, Philbin beach, Menemsha as well as many others.
The first and ground floor has a full size bed, a small TV room, full bath w/ tub, small kitchen and dine in area that opens up to living room with a shaded deck off of the kitchen with new deck seating for 6.. The upstairs 2nd floor has two great sized bedrooms, one with a queen + twin in the same room and the other bedroom has a queen set up, as well as full bathroom between the two upstairs bedrooms with a shower, vanity sink and window overlooking the backyard. The kitchen has a deck off of it with an outdoor table + chairs for 6.
This house is sweet but modest, the kitchens and bathrooms are functional but are soon to be updated. The hard wood floors are scratched, the windows old. The charm is being on the island, enjoying the island and beaches. The yard is rustic with no irrigation.
Nice outdoor shower in back of the house with a lot of mature trees that provide plenty of shaded privacy around the yard.
We do not have Central Air but we do offer a window air conditioning unit for a weekly fee.

I started living on the island in 1987 to save money to help pay for college. Since then I've only missed one summer on the island. Love it.
Vineyard Haven Hideaway purchased this house in 1998
After working and living on the Vineyard seasonally since 1987 as well as 6 years year 'round, buying a small Vineyard house helps to sustain some longtime island roots and enjoy when we get the chance, as well as share with others.
What we love most about this modest Cape style house is the natural light which gives the house a sweet warm energy as well as how its set back in the woods which lends itself a bit of an up-island feel as far as the location while also not being too far from the Vineyard Haven amenities like the Vineyard Haven ferry, the Black dog and Cronig's market, while sitting in a more rural setting. Also there are Shakespeare plays up the road across the street in July + August.

We're a family of four with kids 18 and 15 years old. We booked the house for 10 nights. With that much time someone can REALLY get a feel for a place. The house worked out great for us.
We cooked more then half our meals. The appliances all worked well and we also took advantage of the grill. There's a washer and dryer in the basement and a clothesline outside.
As for sleeping, the beds were all very comfortable. There's 2 bedrooms upstairs and 1 downstairs on the main floor. We opted, for an additional fee, to have an AC "window" installled for our stay. That was a good call and let me tell ya what we did. We placed it upstairs in the bedroom w 2 beds where our kids slept. The unit kept both rooms cool for a good nights sleep :) The WiFi worked well throughout the house. There's a TV room but truth be told we didnt turn the TV on, not once in 10 days.We opted to hit the beach everyday, imagine that!
The house is centrally located. I rode my bike every morning to the little house cafe for coffee and picked up fresh Baggets from the small grocery store across the street. We basically went to a different beach everyday. Really explored the island. The only beach trip we repeated was "Katama" which is just east of south beach.
We regularly rode our bikes to Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. We even rode our bikes to Menemsha, got on the bike ferry "very cool" and continued to Aquinnah.
The bottom line is that the house worked out great for us and Rachel was really very helpful. We had one small issue during our stay and she had it taken care of in a flash! What more can u ask for from a owner. I'd recommend the house to my closest friends and family.
It is a nice little house on a nice little road on a nice little island off the coast of a great big country. All of the bedding and furniture and accoutrements appeared to be brand new. Very comfortable.
This house is absolutely beautiful. The owner has & is remodeling the whole house. Its freshly painted and well maintained. The house is decorated very nice with items from Pottery Barn. All the towels, bedding & small appliances are brand new. The beds are more comfortable than my own! The house had everything you could ask for and more. I could've stayed there forever! Our teenage children were able to go off on their own by taking the bus since the house is located right off the main road the bus was easily accessible. Even though the house is off of the main road, it has an up Island feel, it is very private. The owner is so nice and helpful also. I would highly recommend renting this house!
