Villa Nostalgia is a modern villa that is perfect for either families or couples who would like a rural setting with incomparable sea views and sunsets, but would also like to be only a few minutes away from the beach, tavernas, shops and other amenities. Located on a hillside just above the village of Plaka, the villa has absolutely stunning panoramic views of Souda Bay, The Akrotiri Peninsula, the Turkish Castle at Aptera, The White Mountains, and acres of olive groves.
The interior of the villa is particularly comfortable but we are sure that you will want to spend most of your time outdoors in order to enjoy the wonderful views. There is a choice of sun or shade on the many outdoor areas, which are fully equipped with tables and chairs, sun-beds and umbrellas, and a built-in BBQ. There are individual balconies off the twin bedrooms, the pool terrace, and the spacious upstairs sun terrace which is perhaps the best place from which to marvel at the the glorious sunsets.
Villa Nostalgia is set just about the adjacent villa (Villa Poppy) but has its own pool and private parking area. The owner is a local lady who has taken great care in furnishing and decorating the villa. There are natural coloured floor tiles throughout the villa, comfortable leather couches in the living room, dark mahogany furniture in all of the bedrooms, and natural wood cupboards and bookshelves in the kitchen.
The warm coloured draperies and textiles in the villa give the house a lovely friendly feeling. All modern comforts are available at Villa Nostalgia, including WIFI internet access (though air-time cards will need to be purchased), satellite TV, DVD and CD players, dishwasher and washing machine, mosquito screens on all the windows, and air conditioning units in all the bedrooms and the living room.
The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season. The water is heated by either solar panel or a back-up immersion heater.
Villa Nostalgia has extra large water storage tanks to ensure that the villa never runs out of water during our long hot summers.
Larger groups or families who like to be near each other but still value their privacy, could also book the adjacent villa, Villa Poppy.
Plaka village square is only 1.1kms from Villa Nostalgia and is an easy 10 minute walk. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets just off the mulberry tree lined square.
The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 7 tavernas, an excellent Italian restaurant, 3 well stocked mini markets, a hairdressers, and 6 cafes. 3 of these cafes are just a short five minute walk from the villa.
Villa Nostalgia is just 5 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach and has many shops, tavernas, cafes, a scuba diving office, a water sports centre which rents out windsurfers, kayaks, and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, private boat hire, boat trips, big game fishing, horse riding, private sightseeing flights in a light aircraft, and guided walking tours or coach excursions.

Villa Nostalgia is exclusively booked by Frankie Miles. Frankie runs Villas Crete Holidays which is a registered Tourist Office, based in Hampshire, England and Almyrida, Crete. Whilst most travel companies cover many different countries and/or areas of Greece and Crete, we at Villas Crete Holidays only work in the North West of Crete and we specialise in the Apokoranas region, just east of the historic Venetian town of Chania. The Apokoronas (including the villages of Almyrida, Kalives, Kokkino Horio, Plaka and Gavalohori) has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort area that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. The area is renowned for its sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise water, stunning views of Souda Bay and The White Mountains, excellent tavernas, and archaeological sites.
Frankie is very hands-on at Villas Crete Holiday. She has worked with rental villas on Crete for more than 18 years and has written the best selling guide book "Crete on the Road". The book includes detailed directions and information to all the major tourist attractions, as well as many hidden sites. Also in the book is the only existing map of the National Highway showing all of the entrances/exits and distances. Frankie’s unrivalled knowledge, love of the island, and attention to detail is now being fully put to use to guarantee a fantastic holiday for our guests. Before Crete, Frankie lived all over the world. She initially came to Crete for 1 season after 12 hectic years in New York working various jobs including: office manager for the band Simply Red; production assistant to the singer Paul Simon; and booking bands such as Guns N’ Roses for The Limelight nightclub. All of this was no match, however, to the fantastic weather and food, the warmth of the Cretan people, and the exquisite natural beauty of Crete. When (very occasionally) not working, Frankie spends time helping the stray animals of Crete.
Villa Nostalgia is a good value property with fantastic views and a great location only 900m from the excellent tavernas and well stocked mini markets in Plaka. With a walk to the amenities you can go to the shops at any time, and you can go to have a delicious meal and a drink (or two) on the village square without worrying about driving home.
Plaka is such a safe and family friendly village, that parents can relax at Villa Nostalgia knowing that their teenagers and older children can go into the village on their own without a problem.
For travellers who are on a budget but they want views and all modern amenities, Villa Nostalgia is ideal.
Villas Crete Holidays truly are the Apokoronas Specialists as unlike other offices, 3 of the 4 members of our expert team live and work here all year round which enables us to always have completely up-to-date information about the villas, local facilities, and tourist attractions. We can help you with all aspects of your holiday including good value, reliable car hire, airport transfers, local information about shops, beaches, tavernas etc, detailed driving directions or walking directions for many routes. We can also arrange private boat hire, private boat trips, private sight-seeing flights, horse riding, water-skiing, big game fishing, guided walking, and guided coach excursions. Our office staff speak English, Greek, and a little French, and have a vast list of local contacts, and our representative in resort also speaks some Italian.
Both the company itself, and Frankie's book have been featured and recommended in articles in major British newspapers including the Sunday Mail and the Sunday Telegraph, as well as smaller publications such as Greece Magazine.
Most importantly, because we handle many villas, in the unlikely event that there is an unforeseen problem at your villa, we can usually offer you an alternative villa (although this cannot be guaranteed in high season).
We have many years experience working in tourism on Crete, and most importantly this experience is specifically related to villa rentals, which needs a very different area of expertise to other types of tourism such as walking holidays, or package holidays for the masses. We use all of our knowledge and local contacts to ensure that your holiday goes off smoothly from start to finish, from first booking the villa that is most suitable for you, to your arrival back home. When you are in resort, we are available during office hours for information, and 24 hours a day should you need medical assistance, yet we remain unobtrusive.
The main square in Plaka is only 1.1km from The Villa Nostalgia and is still very much the focal point of village life. There are lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappe. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 7 tavernas, an excellent Italian restaurant, 3 well stocked mini markets, a hairdressers and 6 cafes. The lovely village of Almyrida is only 2km from Villa Nostalgia, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 11 excellent tavernas, a pizzeria/pasta restaurant, 6 cafés, 2 bars, 2 bakeries, 1 jewellery shop, 4 mini-markets, 7 gift shops, 2 ice cream shops, a butchers shop, a fabulous fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, a pharmacy, an off-licence/liquour store, 3 real estate offices, a nail spa, and body wellness spa, and a hairdressers. Also in Almyrida there is an arcade/shop with pool tables and games machines, a scuba diving office, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, boat trips, horse riding, and guided walking tours and coach excursions. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi.
For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind the harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics.
