Come share our piece of Heaven! (24 miles from Boone, NC) When we come to the mountains and step on our property, we feel instantly relaxed. The clean mountain air and the sound of the rushing creek melt away any tensions from "city life". Bring your fishing pole and relax by the pond or walk back to the National Forest. We love to see the new fawns with their moms by the apple tree in summer. The butterflies, humming birds and wild flowers add beauty and color. Wild blackberries and apples just beg to be made into a pie. The kids and dogs romp in the creek. It's all here to enjoy! For a change of pace, it's a quick drive over to Roan Mtn State Park, Grandfather Mtn, Tweetsie Railroad, Linville Falls, Bristol Speedway, Bristol Caverns, Damascus Creeper Trail, Watauga Winery, Blue Ridge Pkwy, or take a hike on one of the many Appalachian Trail hiking paths. And who could miss Watauga Lake, surrounded by Cherokee National Forest! Boat and jet ski rentals are available at many of the marinas or go for a swim at one of the 17 access points. You can even fish for supper. The cabin was built from lumber cut from our 81 acres and boasts of down-home country. There are 2 bedrooms and a sleeper sofa, 1.5 baths, and full laundry. In summer it's fun to end the day in the private outdoor shower. We furnished the cabin for easy country living with all the extras that make it "home". Come visit the mountains . . . it's beautiful this time of year!

About Barbara Willard
We looked for our perfect get-away in the mountains for over 12 years, and then we discovered this gem! We bought it the same day, and over the next year, cut trees and brought in a sawmill to mill the wood for our cabin. We live in Florida but love to spend 3 - 4 months in the mountains. In a few years, we will retire to TN full time.
Barbara Willard purchased this Cabin in 2003
Why Barbara Willard chose Butler
This parcel was exactly what we were seeking because of the privacy it affords and the vast abundance of wildlife. The parcel runs ridge to ridge and backs up to Cherokee National Forest. It has a beautiful rushing stream that runs right through the middle of the property.
What makes this Cabin unique
Very private and quiet. Lots of hiking and ATV trails. Fishing, bird watching, deer, ground hogs, turkey, bobcat, quail, grouse, and much more. Black Branch (the name of the creek) flows right down to Watauga Lake across the street.

A beautiful home that has been restored and updated. Clean. Peaceful, private and quite with a stream running by the home. Lot of space to hike. A small pond to fish in. Would love to return.
Serious nature lovers only! :)
The perfect place to relax and unwind! The house was beautiful and stocked with everything imaginable!(Outdoor shower included) So much beautiful land to explore and a pond for fishing. Don't forget your camera because there are photo ops at every turn(wildlife, mountains, sunrises). Located within easy driving distance from some amazing places. Boone,NC,Blowing Rock,Grandfather Mountain,Jonesborough,Tn,Johnson City and of course Watauga Lake. The customer service was outstanding. The manager is close by for any concerns and Barb was a phone call away. 4 adults slept comfortably and we had plenty of space to move around. Night time in the mountains can be a little chilly so the satellite tv(all channels) and collection of dvd's came in handy. The house is situated on the main road but you wouldn't know it sitting on the back porch(where we spent most of our time when we weren't taking in the sites). Bird feed is sitting by the door so it was fun to feed and watch the birds and the turkey was our morning alarm clock. For anyone staying I suggest a drive to Daniel Boone Inn(about 25 miles in Boone,NC) for some downhome delicious cooking! I would highly recommend this spot for families, couples, fishermen,or even girls weekend. Fall is a great time of the year to visit for sure(we could sit out and watch the leaves changing :) Can't wait for a return trip! Thanks for everything! !
My family and I were looking for an opportunity to get away and unplug. We could not have asked for a better place to do so. The cabin is well equipped and the owner has thought about everything one could need for a delightful stay. It also met my very high standards of cleanliness, which is a definite perk. In other places we have stayed, I would typically spend most of day one cleaning.
During our first day, I will say I was a little concerned because the property is close to the highway, but I soon found that I never noticed it except for it's convenience when we were going out. We spent the majority of our time there on the back porch where you quickly notice nothing but the bubbling brook, the hum of the hummingbirds, butterflies and the wild turkeys that would come to visit twice a day. The property around the cabin is gorgeous and if you are bird lovers you will be in heaven and the pond is full of little bluegill that were fun for my little one to catch and release. We are an adventurous bunch and there are tons of fabulous hiking trails in short driving distance from cabin or just trek the property itself. Of course the lake is always close by for however you wish to enjoy it...fishing, kayaking, boating. I would advise that you purchase supplies on your way in. The closest full grocery store is a good bit away and a lot of the local restaurants and fares are only open on the weekend. We found, though, that we did not miss them. Loved the outdoor shower! There is nothing like coming back from a day of hiking or lake and being able to take a shower with the whisper of wind and birds above you (not to mention, not tracking through the house :)). If you are looking for a great place to get a way from it all and reconnect with your family and nature or just get a way in general, I would highly recommend this retreat!
We rented this property for the month of June and used it to have convenient access to our boat on Watauga Lake. We soon discovered that we enjoyed spending time at the cabin just as much as the lake; maybe more! The creek that runs beside the cabin is the perfect centerpiece. The privacy and beauty that this property offers is hard to beat. It is close to the marinas on Watauga and is just a beautiful place. The owners were very accommodating and everything we could possibly need is stocked in the cabin. While there is no cell service at the cabin, there is a land line phone and we didn't miss being uplugged at all because it is just so beautiful there. I highly recommend this property.
We have been coming to the Watauga area for over 15 years and have stayed in many places. We rank this rental as one of our favorites! We truly enjoyed our stay. The house was very comfortable, clean and well-equipped. The property was beautiful and peaceful. I only wish we had found this place years before! We will definitely stay here again when we return. We will also highly recommend this rental to our friends and family who also enjoy coming to the area! The only thing that would have improved our stay...internet and phone service! Maybe the area will get cell coverage soon so we can stay connected! :0)
Thank you for your wonderful review! We look forward to your return visits. Internet is in the works once Century Link can connect us. We did get the phone hooked back up again.
Awesome mountain getaway!
The cabin was awesome! Super nice and cozy! Lots of turkeys and amazing views!! No cell service or wifi but there is a land line phone so it's not a big deal. Nice to be disconnected for awhile! Stream and pond are nice! Perfect to let the dogs run! Not far from beach access and only about 20 minutes from Appalachian Trail!
