About Miss Hilary Harper

Jim and I have been renting Hillcroft House as a Holiday Let for 8 years. Every year we have updated and improved the facilities based on our customers feedback and we are thrilled at the amount of people who return; an indication that we are doing a good job.

Although we live in an adjacent flat on the site, we try not to intrude on your privacy, and once we have given the key and shown you round, we are only available should you come to the flat.

We have a Newsagents shop which occupies a lot of our time away from the property, however we are contactable 24/7 should there be any problems.

Jimmy was born and bred in the area, and is a fountain of Knowledge on the more secluded, remote beauty spots that are otherwise unseen by the normal holiday maker.

Miss Hilary Harper purchased this house in 2004

Why Miss Hilary Harper chose North Cornwall

Hillcroft House is tucked away in a private cul de sac and enjoys a secure and private setting for the family.

The surrounding cliffs, rugged harbour and tranquil Valency valley, provide a varied landscape to explore right on our doorstep; it truly is breath taking!!

This large spacious property lends itself to entertaining, whether barbecuing by the swimming pool, relaxing with a drink in the Hot tub watching the stars, or enjoying a candlelight dinner in the dinning room.

Christmas is a treat in this house, with the large lounge decorated with the Christmas tree, and the fire place festooned with fresh holly.

This house was made for entertaining and has enjoyed many a family get together.

What makes this house unique

We love this house for its large, spacious rooms yet its secluded,

private garden which is a real sun trap. We are not overlooked by the surrounding properties which is an advantage when relaxing in the hot tub or swimming in the pool.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a fantastic week we had at your lovely house. You were such welcoming, friendly hosts and made the house so lovely for our stay. We loved the house, there was so much space for us especially when cooking and all sitting around in the lounge together at night playing card games. The Hot tub is a great addition, I only wished it was May so we could have used the pool too.

The holiday was Fab; we will always remember it and will be recommending you to all our friends.

Absolutely beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Our family stay here last summer with our children was just fantastic - A lovely cosy property with a truly fantastic location and setting - beautiful and peaceful and yet just a short walk into the heart of beautiful Boscastle with so much for the kids to do and explore - really the best of both worlds.

The accomodation was incredibly spacious and very well maintained throughout. The living and dining rooms were exceptionally cosy and the kitchen was amazing - really well equipped and even better than our own at home! The bedrooms were comfortable and well proportioned and the kids absolutely loved the enclosed garden and private swimming pool. We sat outside most evenings enjoying the barbeque and the evening sun whilst the kids played - really a great family escape!

Without a doubt one of the best holidays we've been on - a truly idyllic stay that all of us have not stopped talking about. We will definitely be going back!

Greeted by Hilary and Jim both very helpful and very friendly perfect hosts. showed us around their beautiful home the picture's don't do the house, rooms or garden justice. very spacious rooms. very comfy beds. everything you would need is provided literally everything (except a few basics). what can I say about the garden as soon as my kids and my friends son (4 and 8 and 12yrs old) got up in the morning they wanted to be in the pool and hot tub. when we arrived we had literally just got in the door and my kids were stripping of to go for a swim and we had only just introduced our selves to Hilary and Jim. back to garden, the pool is heated to around 30'c and hot tub is amazing after a swim, very clean and maintain every day. my youngest loved the chickens became a routine in the morning and afternoon to collect the eggs. Weather was perfect and made a fantastic week. Slight noise from above the living room as Hilary and Jim live upstairs but not noticeable at all really until you sit to watch tv or play games in the living room, but they do keep as quiet as possible didn't effect anything for us. we properly made more noise lol. Thanks again Hilary and Jim for a great holiday it was truly a brilliant holiday for every member of the party and one we will never forget and we have already started talking about coming to cornwall next year. Huge thanks Emma and co

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Glad you all had a great time. Apologies for our creaky floor boards in the flat, but bearing in mind that Jim and I were on the beach most afternoons till dark, we were surprised that it effected your tv watching and ........games? Also surprised that you were missing a few basic items, as we send all our guests a comprehensive list of what to bring that is not included in the price of the SELF CATERING Holiday Let . We provide everything except food and beverages, personal toiletries , and your washing powder . There are local shops within 10 mins walk, where you can pick up any essentials that you have forgotten. Thank you for the lovely card, flowers and fudge; it was very kind of you all. Best regards to you all Hilary and Jim xxxxx

Wondeful week in Boscastle

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house at the top of Boscastle.

Hilary & Jim are welcoming hosts. There when you need them, giving privacy when you want it.

The poor weather didn't prevent getting enjoyment from the lovely pool & hot tub.

The Napoleon Inn is 50 yards away and serves great food and fine ales.

A 10 minute walk to the harbour area brings you to nice shops, cafes & pubs.

Cobweb Inn serves good food & ales.

Short drives to Bude, Padstow & Tintagel break the week up.

Fowey is a little further away on the south coast, but well worth the effort.

Absolutely recommend Hillcroft House for a great location for your vacation

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments. I am so sorry the weather was so disappointing for your week, that is why we put a summerhouse right by the pool, so people can swim , relax in hot tub and have shelter outside despite any wind or rain. So glad you visited Fowey; people do not realise how close the south coast of Cornwall is to Boscastle. We often hop between the coasts, as often the weather is better on one side than the other. Lovely to meet you both and you will always be welcome if you fancy a revisit. Hilary and Jim

A beautiful house in a beautiful area!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed previously with friends, but this time enjoyed a fantastic week here with family, and couldn't have asked for better weather too for the week!

For the rest of the family (from 50 down to 15!) - they all we awestruck by the house when they got there despite the pictures - and it was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed and so spacious too (even if there was 8 of us!). Everyone also loved the pool which was so warm and such a welcome relief after some hot days, as well as the hot tub - and brilliant to see some new bits such as a new garden 'summerhouse' (which went down well with some quiet drinks and admiring the quiet after the sun had gone down!), and also updates to the bathroom too.

Hilary and Jim are fantastic owners, and have always made us feel very welcome at Hilcroft - nothing is too much trouble if you do need a bit of help or advice on where to go, such as local tourist attractions or finding a quieter beach to enjoy.

Seriously cannot recommend this place enough to anyone thinking about a stay and would rate it more than 5 stars if I could, it truly is a beautiful house, a beautiful location in Boscastle (which as a city dweller is eerily quiet at night but so nice!), and with the rest of Cornwall and so many beaches on your doorstep, we never ran out of anything to do and will fill plenty more trips to come I'm sure!

Really can not wait to be back again in the near future, and thank you so much once again to Hilary & Jim for another brilliant stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you Joel for your touching comments. Jim and I try so hard to keep the holiday let up to date and value for money, because we know how expensive family holidays are. Had to laugh that the new summer house that we erected because summer months have been so bad of late, thought a relaxing area whilst dipping in and out of the pool... Was Infact too hot for the weather! No problem because Cornwall weather will always be unpredictable. Loved meeting your family, and sorry about the weak WIFI for the girls, but apparently the signal alround Boscastle was not up to full power that week. However, not to be defeated , have just taken receipt of the BTHub 5, unlimited Broad band ; hopefully job solved!! Always a pleasure seeing you, gives us a shout when you want to come down.....,treat you to a cider in the cobweb! Best wishes to your family, and hopefully see Ian in September with the Bereford Clan. Take care Hilary and Jimmy xx PS if you have any better photos, please send them through ...gratefully accepted and put on web site.Xx

Beautiful and Comfortable, hot tub is a bonus!!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for 3nights with family. Hilary and Jim are friendly and very helpful. The property is large and comfortable and set in a great location. We enjoyed staying at home as much as we enjoyed the surroundings. We all loved the hot tub. Only problem was that only 6 people can be in it at one time and we were 7 but we managed just fine. Bedrooms are good size and comfortable, we slept well. Kitchen is well equipped and had everything we needed and more. Bathroom was spacious but shower cubicle floor was very slippery once wet and needs a non-slip mat on the shower floor. Lounge and dining areas were spacious. Lots of leaflets were available for us to check out the nearby areas and activities.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I am glad you all had a lovely time and managed to see some of the surrounding area during your short stay. We make it clear in the details that are given, that the hot tub accommodates 6 Adults.Jim and I have found that an extra person is always useful to replenish drinks and cater to the needs of those remaining in the tub!! With reference to the slippery shower tray, this is the first time we have heard this in 8 years of letting, but we will provide a non slip mat for future. Best Wishes Hilary

Fabulous A******

  • 5 of 5

We went to stay at Hill Croft , the house was gorgeous from inside and out , it was so spacious , the children loved the garden , the hot tub , and the chickens , and the eggs in the morning were delicious. Hillary and Jim were out standing and very welcoming the perfect hosts, the pictures do not do justice as the house from within is beautiful , and it was so well equipped the kitchen oh my had the smallest to the smallest item and crockery I thoroughly enjoyed cooking in the kitchen whilst I was there. The weather was rather unstable but we did manage to out and about and see the beautiful surroundings, shall be going back very soon , as the children would love to go back , over all it was a lovely few days thoroughly enjoyed ,,

Thank you xx

Owner's Response: Hi Shakila, Thank you for taking the time to give your review of your stay. I am so glad you enjoyed yourselves despite the weather. Jim and I have been trying to come up with ideas to make the holiday less reliant on the weather( sadly, the only thing that is out of our control). We are taking delivery today of our summer house, which will be sited by the pool. Hopefully, it will allow guests to hop in and out of the hot tub/ pool and relax on the sofas in the summer house despite rain, snow, hail and wind. Twinkley lights are obligatory! The children were a delight, so well behaved. Have you bought them their own chickens yet? Love to have you all back....was a pleasure! Best wishes Hilary and Jimxx
