Overview

About the property

River cabin close to fishing, hiking, falls.

Shasta Retreat was the original stopping place for all City Travelers in the early 20th century. This fabulous cabin is nestled in pine trees just a short step to the Sacramento River, so bring your fishing pole! Cabins in this north Dunsmuir neighborhood are mostly family owned and passed down through generations.

Newly remodeled and smartly furnished and decorated, this cabin will delight all who need a little quiet time and peaceful tranquility. The cabin’s two bedrooms with comfortable beds, nice bathroom with shower, fun kitchen/dining area, and large living room all have inviting décor. The cabin includes an outside private patio for morning coffee, or to just listen to the birds during the warm season, and a barbeque for your use. For those snowy winter evenings a wood fireplace in the living room creates a cozy atmosphere. The cabin is about three hundred feet from the train tracts, so you will hear the occasional train and whistle as it winds its way along the river and up the canyon.

Summer sports include world class fishing in the Sacramento and McCloud rivers, water sports in the numerous lakes in the area, and fantastic hiking, including the Castle Crags. Winter sports include the Mount Shasta Ski Park which is about a 30 minute drive from the cabin. Cross country skiing is also close to the ski park, along with the always fun Snowman's Hill.

Come to visit our cabin to feel the beauty and wonder of the canyon and river.

Very bad experience

  • 1 of 5

We walked in to a very bad musky, moldy smell. The furniture is very, very old. The mattress's were bad especially the twin mattress's. Three cabins down is a main train line that run's 24 hours a day with trains coming by ever few hour. They blow the whistle and it is so loud it vibrates the cabin. I will think twice before booking with VRBO again

We spent several wonderful days in this cabin

  • 4 of 5

We spent several wonderful days in this cabin. Took local hiking trips and had a nice dinner at Dunsmuir Brewery Works. The only word of caution is to be aware of the trains. The railroad trucks are just a few hundred feet away from the cabin and we could not get enough sleep because of the passing cargo trains noise and horn blasts.

Very clean and fully equipped in a hidden corner of California

  • 4 of 5

The cabin has been expertly remodeled. The only problem is a lack of breakfast cafes.

Cabin in the woods - for sure!

  • 5 of 5

The setting of this cabin was very nice; set off the river with the occasional train going by created a bit of old fashioned charm. The cabin was nicely setup and had been updated recently. We were very happy with our stay.
