We enjoyed Niagara Falls very much. You can't beat the location of the home and the Smart Stays team was responsive and quickly helped us resolve a few questions and issues. The home was clean and ready for our arrival as promised. Plenty of bath towels and linens available for our group of 8 people.
The home had a few things that needed repair or updated/removed in the amenity listing. The washing machine and grill were not fully operational as the washer spin cycle was broken and the grill ignitor switch is broken. There was no access to the garage as indicated, but could be important for future tenants counting on that additional parking space. And the pool seemed to have a leak causing issues in the backyard. The pool is under a power line and had exposed wiring all around from what looks like a hot tub formerly located there.
Finally there were some comforts lacking-towel bars in bathrooms or hooks, blinds on all windows, comfortable seating the living space (there was one futon that needed a new cushion) and one chair with broken back slats. There was a very nice large bean bag that my kids loved so that helped. With a family relaxing together in the living room, you want comfortable seating for most--especially in a rental advertised as a "Family Home" away from home.
Overall the convenient location won us over. But I wanted to provide feedback for other guests as there weren’t reviews for this property yet.
Great location but a little deceiving
I don’t usually comment negatively on these things; however, in this instance I feel as though this listing was a little deceiving and therefore feel compelled to comment.
The first issue was that it did not appear as though the pool had been cleaned or filled in weeks. The kids we had traveling with us did not even go in the pool because it was filled with leaves and dirt on the bottom. It was disappointing that we spent a little extra to have a pool and then couldn’t even go in it. If you are going to advertise a pool and you know someone is renting the house that week, the pool should be clean and filled -Ready to use for your occupants.
The interior of the house looked as though it was still being renovated. Some of the windows had plastic over them rather than curtains. Some didn’t have curtains at all, and we had to put a makeshift blanket up to block the light coming in the window and for privacy. The futon in the living room barely had any cushion and felt like you were sitting on metal bars.
If traveling with toddlers like us be sure to pack 1-2 safety gates. The steps leading down to the basement are very steep and hard to block with anything but a gate because the hallway is small. We ended us going out and buying a gate.
The shower upstairs is extremely small and hard to move in. The bathroom downstairs is very nice.
The neighborhood seemed a little run down and not in the best area. With that said, we didn’t experience any actual problem with the location and it was extremely close to the falls. It took us less than 5 minutes to get there by car.
While the distance of the falls from this location was great, I don’t believe it was worth what we paid.
