Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your visit Lesley, and for leaving Woodside so clean and tidy. We are very pleased that you found Woodside was the ideal base for touring Loch Ness and the Highlands. And yes, we agree, , the log burning stove is nice and cosy in the evenings. We've tried to make it a cook's kitchen so it is good to hear you found it well-equipped. Many thanks for your kind words. with best wishes - Turan

Great traditional cottage in tranquil setting but close to great sights

  • 4 of 5

Location between Inverness and Ft Augustus makes this great cottage a good find. The peace, tranquility and proximity to vast, unspoiled beauty makes it an excellent find. Cottage is well equipped, owner (Turin) was accessible, friendly and helpful and the price is good. Loved our stay. Thanks!

Nice comfortable little cottage with everything we needed

  • 4 of 5

We loved the log fire and the exceptionally well equpped kitchen. Much to explore round about although we could have done with somewhere nice to walk from the cottage itself with the dog. The road was quite busy. But that did not detract from a lovely 4 days in an area of quite exceptional beauty and the weather was kind too. We managed a picnic every day!.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the compliments Penny and we're delighted you all had a great stay in Woodside. Yes, we love the log fire too, and it is very much a cook's kitchen with all sorts of utensils ; glad you found it exceptionally well-equipped. We're a bit surprised that you described the road as "quite busy". This gives a picture of a city road with lots of traffic. Woodside is on a narrow country road only wide enough for one car to pass at a time. We are in the middle of the Highland countryside. Sometimes during the day it can be half an hour or more between cars passing, and at night virtually no cars go past Woodside. For an hour in the morning/evening when people in the nearby villages go to/from work in Inverness, perhaps ten cars go past Woodside in one hour. Woodside is set a long way back from the road too, with its own long private driveway and extensive gardens, so you can see why we're a bit puzzled by your description. May be there was an event happening nearby one of the days that you stayed. Anyway - delighted to hear you loved your stay and we'd happily welcome you back another time. Thanks for taking the trouble to give us such a nice review. best wishes - Turan

Woodside is in the village of Errogie in the unspoilt, sparsely populated South Loch Ness area with many woodland, mountain and loch side walks starting from the front door. Within a few minutes of Woodside there are many other lochs, mountains and forests to explore. The wildlife will also amaze you with much to be spotted in the woodland from the windows or decking at Woodside inclduing dozens of bird species, regular sightings of red and sika deer, pine martens, pheasants, osprey, woodpeckers, red squirrels, bats and at night you are guaranteed to hear the occasional owl. Golden eagles have also been seen and the nearby Loch Ruthven is an impressive bird reserve. Dolphin watching is guaranteed from Chanonry Point on the Black Isle, a 40 minute drive away. Woodside is an ideal base for touring everything the Highlands have to offer.

Red squirrels and pine martens populate the nearby Farigaig forest which stretches along south Loch Ness, and covers several thousand acres.
