Beautiful Pool Villa in Uzumlu Nr Fethiye Booking now for 2017 be quick !

Bedrooms 3
Space 160 m²
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Sleeps 2-7, 2 doubles 3 single + 2 Sofa beds, 1Bathroom,1En-suite, 1Shower room.

Fig Tree Villa is a property fitted with most modern comforts, it has a garden with a terrace on two sides and use of a large pool right outside your door. All bedrooms have varnished pine floors and air conditioning, the two main double bedrooms (master has en-suite) have balconies, and the third has three single beds. There are two large sofa beds in the lounge and a downstairs shower room. A travel cot is also available. The semi-detached villa is fully furnished to a high standard , we even provide the use of a mobile phone during your stay, just pay as you go. Our private airport transfer (not taxi) will take you directly to the villa and on arrival you will be escorted in. There is a regular minibus service from the village into Fethiye or we recommend hiring a car to to fully appreciate the beauty and wonders this area has to offer, car hire can be organised with our agent during your stay or pre-booked. Most local bars and restaurants now provide FREE Wi-Fi.

Uzumlu nestles 500 metres above sea level on a fertile pleateau surrounded by imposing mountain ranges. The beauty of the setting and the charm of the village have started to attract holidaymakers and sightseers in recent years, but Uzumlu remains very much a proper working village, with the local community relying on agriculture and traditional crafts as its sources of income. The village’s name translates as “with grapes”, and vines producing an abundant variety of grapes are much in evidence. Fields of cotton, sesame, aniseed, wheat, barley and summer vegetables surround the village. on the lower slopes of the mountains apples, pomegranates, almonds, pears and olives are grown. The heart of the village is its square bordered by a handful shops, a post office, a mosque and a large plane tree, as well as the all-important tea house, the meeting point and hub of local village life.

Wandering around the small lanes that fan out from the square, you can see local women weaving cotton on traditional pedal-looms in front of their houses, and you may well be offered some of their wares to purchase. There are a couple of plane and simple restaurants in the village along with a new modern wine bar now the hub of English holidaymakers and ex-pats evening entertainment, nice meals and you can try the local wines. There is a very smart restaurant on the main road to the village which is a comfortable stroll, so you don’t have to rely on your hire car all the time in order to eat out. A much wider variety of eating places – as well as sufficient shops to satisfy the needs of the most serious shopper can be found in Calis or Fethiye (look out for the huge market in Fethiye on Tuesday's).

Those more interested in archaeological sites can reach Tlos, Pinara, Xanthos and Leton in around an hour. However, one of the most stunningly situated classical sites of the region lies much closer to home. Ancient Kayanda, which has only been partially excavated, can be reached on foot from here by those not deterred by a steep, uphill hike. Perched on the top of the hill behind Uzumlu, it has glorious views over the bay of Fethiye. Kadyanda’s relative obscurity, compared to that of more famous sites such as Ephesus, means that you can often wander undisturbed amidst the remains.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our stay at Fig Tree Villa, thanks. Very well equipped though we didn’t use very much. In fact the only time we ever sat inside was when Mark sat on an easy chair for a few minutes waiting for the transfer to collect us at the end of the holiday. I don’t remember when we have ever relaxed so much. Of course we have been to the Fethiye area several times so didn’t feel the need to rush around doing “the sights” and we are not big on organised boat trips. We had thought of hiring a car for a few days but didn’t bother in the end, just had a few trips into town on the dolmus. The village had all we needed day to day. We enjoyed strolling around the village itself which is charming and also had a few more energetic walks up into the forest. We did a 3 hour walk on the Maden Yolu towards Cadianda but didn’t make it as far as the ruins (always mindful that you have to come back again and 3 hours walking in the heat was enough for me!). Glorious views though and lovely walking through the pines. Going up the other way we got as far as the fallen tombs which were interesting. All in all, a lovely holiday, very nice villa in beautiful surroundings, thank you!

Happy Fig Tree Memories

  • 5 of 5

Fig Tree lived up to all expectations. Clean, well equipped and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and the pool larger than expected.

There is a short walk through the lanes to the village where there are various grocery stores and restaurants. We managed by using the local dolmus bus service to Fethiye for most of our outings; they seem to keep reliably to the timetable.

I would certainly recommend this property, it is set in a quiet location, not overlooked and the rural village of Uzumlu is a delight, Luckily this year the wild figs were ripening in the first week of August, a real bonus.

Lovely stay in fig tree

  • 5 of 5

The villa was very comfortable and clean.

We didn't see the neighbours so we had (the large) pool all to ourselves for the whole week.

We loved the feel of the village.

Beautiful mix of tradional Turkish village live and enough expats around to have a chat with if you wish.

We loved to go to Eddy's cafe for an afternoon milkshake or dinner.

Nice lounge cafe with free wifi.

We,ve seen a lot of the surroundings. Just drive around in the mountains and you'll find ancient sites or other small turkish villages.

Very recommendable

Fig Tree Villa

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Fig Tree Villa was excellent. The villa is huge, nicely furnished and well equipped. It is really clean and has everything such as dishwasher, washing machine, PS1, tv, video, stereo, hair dryers etc. The pool is shared with the neighbours but they rarely use it so it is as good as having a private pool. The entire villa is very impressive and an excellent place to stay. The scenery surrounding the villa is exceptional, and because of the mountains it is a few degrees cooler than the coast, which is great in the summer.

Uzumlu village has a few bars and restaurants, the Wine House is worth a visit, it caters for both English and Turkish tastes. The Grape Garden is a simple place that again has a variety of English and Turkish foods. There are lots of shops in the village centre that are geared up for self-catering tourists.

We would recommend that you hire a car, the Orange management company are extremely helpful and they even drove us most of the way back from the airport. But if you don't want to do that, there are regular buses that go to and from Feithye. They'll stop anywhere and are reasonably priced. You will see them everywhere (they are small mini-buses) they go all over. It is a really good service. There are also lots of other buses that go further (Olu Deniz being one place)

A place you must visit is Kadyanda, it is only 7km out of the village, up a mountain road and it is amazing, it is the ruins of an ancient settlement (if you go with children don't let them loose as there are lots of deep holes). Another must-visit is the Saklikent Gorge, it is a fair drive away but there are companies that offer tours. It was amazing, we arrived at around 8:30am and we were the first there, we had the entire gorge to ourselves, we took two of the children as guides and they were excellent in letting us know where not to walk and the best ways to climb the waterfalls. Be warned you need proper wet shoes, not flip-flops as you will lose them. It is a flip-flop graveyard! You also need to take a bag you can get wet and protect your valuables - we just used resealable food bags. On the way home another stop is Tlos, another ruined civilisation.

Fig Tree villa is perfectly situated if, like us, you like to explore the country you are visiting, there is so much to see and do and everything is within easy reach of the villa. Just do a bit of research before you go and Google some maps as they were vital to us.

First Holiday in Turkey

  • 5 of 5

Fig Tree Villa provided a perfect base for our first Turkish holiday. We were given lots of information before our visit by Paul the owner and he also arranged our car hire and transfer to and from the airport. The property management company were very friendly & helpful particularly Ahmet.

Set in the small village of Uzumlu (grape village) nestled between the mountains it's both quiet but easily accessible to the main town of Fethiye - 15 mins drive. We had a hire car but a dolmus (local minibus) goes there hourly and costs 3 Turkish lira. The villa is well maintained, spotlessly clean and has air conditioned bedrooms. The shared pool with next door is beautiful and great for a cool down dip after lying in the sun.

The village has small supermarkets, a few restaurants and a wine bar. A word of warning .. be prepared if no prices are displayed to negotiate!. It's something we Brit's are not good at but something that seems every day in Turkey and they can be very insistent/persuasive.

Uzumlu specialises in hand made woven & spun fabrics (tablecloths, Shawls, etc) well worth buying.

There are so many ancient sites to visit going back to the Lycian period. The lycian city ruins of Kadyanda are just 7 kilometres from Uzumlu .. it's set at the top of a mountain and has spectacular views across to Fethiye and surrounding countryside. The journey up though is not for the faint hearted .. if taking a car drive with care as there are no barriers and the road is hazardous. We were a bit disappointed with the site and would recommend a visit to Tlos instead which is spectacular with many tombs cut into the rock and also the home of Pegasus and the tomb of Bellerophon the Lycian king.

We loved Fethiye old town with many restaurants and shops to chose from and on Tuesday don't miss the bazaar/market which is very large and a must visit .. again be prepared to negotiate the price though!. You can also book the island boat trips from here.

You must experience inside a 400 year old Hamam which is a Turkish bath place. Be pampered with exfoliating and soap massage.

If you need a haircut it's superb value and an experience in itself. As well as cutting your hair you get a shoulder, arm and head massage all for 10 Turkish lira.

Other places which are a must visit are the beautiful salt water lagoon at Olu Deniz and the Gorge at Saklikent.

Overall a great holiday!!
