About Barbara and Ian
We grew up in this area and it is where we decided to raise and educate our three children. Our family of three children, their partners and our grandchildren enjoy their visits and we love to cook for them. Our passions are our family, cooking, gardening, growing vegetables, travelling and exploring our beautiful region.
Barbara and Ian purchased this House in 2002
Why Barbara and Ian chose Portland
Our children were in their late teens when we fell in love with this 25 acre property and built our dream home on site with established gardens. When we purchased the property we took down a very old National Parks Wildlife Refuge Sign. We love where we live and the native wildlife that visit so we have decided to share this beautiful private space with an additional detached new 3 bedroom cottage at the rear of the property where guests can enjoy the mountain views and have their own private refuge as well.
What makes this House unique
There is plenty of room for children to ride their bicycles and there are several tracks to walk around the property. Guest are welcome to picnic in or around the gardens on the property or take advantage of their privacy in their own private sanctuary. Guests have their own private entertainment area with pergola and fire-pit and can enjoy the amazing stars on a clear night. The bird life is abundant and we provide wild birdseed to allow you to feed the birds if you wish to. The property is well located only 3 minutes drive to Portland, 6 minutes to Wallerawang, 22 minutes to Lithgow and 35 minutes to Bathurst.

Lovely home in a beautiful setting. Everything was exceptionally presented and clean. Great hosts.
The house was beautiful and clean in a lovely bushland setting. With great facilities and very friendly hosts. We would recommend it to anyone.
Thank you Ross for your kind response we are pleased you enjoyed your stay.
Hands Down, the Best HomeAway/AirBnB/Stayz We've Experienced
We stay in home/holiday rentals perhaps 15 times a year, and this was a fantastic experience.
The surroundings are lovely, but the home (brand new house, all mod cons, but semi-bush rural retreat) had every level of comfort. And then those little touches that make all the difference (tea/coffee supplies, ultrasoft towels and bedding, quality kitchen utensils, some A/C, lovely outdoor areas, dishwasher, dryer, etc etc etc). Bird feeders ensured plenty of colourful visitors, roos and wallabies everywhere, even a sandpit and toys for our toddlers.
Barb went out of her way to guide us to her place, ensure we were comfortable, provide other supprt and information, yet was completely unobtrusive.
We've stayed in some spectacular places overlooking escarpments, the sea, cities etc...but this place will remain long in the memory for going above and beyond.
Thank you for your amazing review you were fantastic to deal with and we enjoyed having your beautiful family stay in the cottage. I am pleased that the native wildlife showed their faces to you and thank you for taking such good care of the cottage.
You are welcome back anytime.

Absolutely amazing getaway!!!
Barbara and Ian were fabulous hosts and they have done a fantastic job providing beautiful holiday accommodation to lucky guests. They went above and beyond our expectations to make our stay wonderful and we appreciate the extra mile they went to for us. The accommodation is brand new, luxurious and peaceful with everything you could possibly need on hand. We all enjoyed the families of Kangaroos that came to graze each day and being close to nature. Our 2 kids did not want to leave and wanted to 'stay forever', regretfully we left but we can't wait to start planning our next trip there to have a break and get out of the rat race again. Thanks again Barb and Ian!
Thank you Peta for your kind words. It was a pleasure having your beautiful family stay in the cottage. I am so pleased you all enjoyed your time here and the kangaroos obviously liked visiting whilst you were there. You are welcome back any time.
