Bethany and Paul's story
We've been together through school and many adventures and when we got engaged we wanted to find that perfect wedding venue. We looked and looked but didn't find it.
We thought about our favorite places and mutually agreed that Up North was it. Rather than have an elaborate wedding at a venue without sentimental value, we decided to invest in a place on our favorite lake. Well we found our perfect venue.
Bethany purchased this cottage in 2015
My great grandfather had a cabin on this lake and for generations our family has spent our summers up north. All of my favorite summer memories were spent swimming and exploring the waters and shore of Ruth Lake with friends and family. It only seemed fitting that if we found that perfect place on Ruth Lake we would call it our own.
We fell in love with the privacy of the property and comfy screened in porch. Although spacious, it also feels homey and low key, just like us. I love that you can put the kids to bed but still enjoy bar games and activities without leaving the property.
One important aspect was the large room that we immediately saw as a potential game room. It's a great place to mingle and stay warm on cold winter nights while still enjoying company without feeling cramped.
Our goal is to find a handful of responsible families who would rent annually and have Norway Pine Cottage become part of your family memories.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we do:)
Bethany was an ideal hostess. She was through, organized and generous -- even personalizing our stay by having age-appropriate toys, books and games on the ready for the kids in the game room. Every question we had was answered in the Welcome Packet she sent us, pertinent info and instruction was labeled within the house. When we changed our stay from 7 nights to 6, she personally undertook all the details with VRBO to change our agreement and fees. The location of the cabin is secluded, woodsy and beautiful. It has two beachfronts, one with a dock to fish off of and one with a beach for kids to play on. The boathouse near this beach was STOCKED with toys for sand, nets for fishing, chairs for lounging, goggles and fins for underwater play, even a floating island to loaf on in the water. In the garage were other games and toys such as kickballs, a wagon, a tricycle, beanbag toss; in the screened-in porch were some fishing rods at our disposal; in the game room we found darts, foosball, pool table, board games, you name it! It was simply ideal for our family reunion gathering with kids. There was also a fire pit nearby the beach though we never did find the opportunity to use it! Next time. The calm lake did not have a lot of traffic, had clean water and was a perfect temperature, there were TONS of fish in this lake! Inside the cabin was comfortable, spacious and clean. There were plenty of dishes and the amenities were modern and functional (dishwasher, washing machine, stovetop, dryer, etc). The table was big enough to seat us all. She had even left us some popsicle treats in the freezer for the kids! My dad complained that there was no "real TV" but I think he's part of the old generation, we were able to livestream the most pertinent things we wanted to watch (like the Olympics!).
Though this is just Minnesota living, and no fault of our hosts, our sole complaint may have been the amount of insects during this time of year (mid-August). Mosquitoes were rampant and the biting flies had it in for us. Insect repellent is a must!
We would very likely stay here again -- we tend to rotate locations each year but next time we gather in MN I think we would be back. I recommend this property 100%.
We brought a number of our field technicians up for an ice fishing weekend and a weekend of fun. The house was in absolutely amazing condition and we are very excited to return next year. Fishing was a little slow but according to the locals we talked to on the lake it was a fluke and the fishing is typically great. It must have been the amazingly warm weather. Great house in a great location. The lot is nice and large. If it were summertime I bet you would not even be able to see the neighbors house. We will definitely be back.
My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend at this cozy cabin and really enjoyed it. It was clean, well maintained and supplied (dishes, cookware, cofffee & filters, etc.). Our favorite feature was the private screened in back porch. We also loved sitting on the dock to watch the sunset, having a fire with the smores provided and going for walks around the property. We saw so many animals and we got some amazing pictures. We hope to stay there again soon.
I would recommend Norway Pine Cottage to anyone looking for a nice little getaway or a week long stay.
The cabin was excellent and we really enjoyed it. It was clean and well maintained. We really enjoyed the secluded yard and screened in porch, large beach and firepit, sitting on the dock and the gameroom. The kids slept in the bunk beds and loved the shuffleboard table. Overall, the cabin exceeded our expectations. The process was easy and we would recommend anyone rent this cabin.
The owners were in contact with us leading up to our stay and were very quick on emails. Additionally they gave us a welcome basket with smores and other fun summer surprises for the kids. I felt like we were staying at a friend or families cabin. They made us feel so welcome. Thanks Paul and Bethany, you guys are great!
The property was everything it was advertised to be, and the location was so close to the cute town of Emily but far enough away for privacy. We loved going to Sweets n' Such Ice Cream and Gift Shop as well as The Bungalow Restaurant. There was a grocery store, gas station as well as a bait and tackle store and even an Ace Hardware.
This was an excellent location for our Up North vacation. Our kids loved the game room and kids playroom. The sunset views from the dock were a nightly ritual and very lovely. The property is very private and had everything you need to cook and even fishing poles for us to use. Unlike some cabins I've stayed at in the area, Norway Pine Cottage felt like home. I highly recommend this home and look forward to going back next year.
Only minutes from the town of Emily. With access to everything you will need for a fun relaxing up north getaway.

We love our pets, they are part of the family and go on family vacations with us. It can be challenging to find a pet-friendly vacation rental and when you do, they charge per pet, per day and it adds up to bring them. We want the whole family to enjoy your vacation and make life long memories. For this reason, we charge a fully refundable pet deposit for responsible pet owners.
