This house was the primary residence of my mom and dad, both of whom have passed on. The house was custom built by them as their retirement home. Dad retired from the New York City police department in 1974 and served as town magistrate for 24 years. Mom was a phys ed teacher in New York City prior to her retirement. Both mom and dad were ADK 46r's (having climbed all 46 Adirondack peaks over 4000' tall). Our nickname for Dad was "Owl" because he was always wise. When he dies we named the house Owl Perch Camp in his honor.
Lorne Sheren purchased this house in 1975
The House Offers a Unique Adirondack Experience. Comfortable and Homey, There is Lots to Do, Or Just Relax. Upper Saranac Lake, One of the Nicest Lakes in the Adirondack Preserve, is 12 Miles Long and 3 Miles Wide. It Offers Superb Water Quality and Recreational Opportunities. Feel Free to Bring Your Own Watercraft!
My husband and I choose Owl's Perch for our 30th anniversary retreat and we couldn't have been more pleased. The pictures of the house and surrounding property are very accurate. The house had a warm, rustic Adirondack feel and look. If you like to cook, like I do, the kitchen is very well equipped and nicely maintained.
I especially enjoyed the view from the deck of the boathouse when I had my morning coffee,so beautiful and peaceful.
I would love to rent it again in the for a family reunion. It could easily fit 8-10 people with no problem and I"m sure all would love the experience.
The owner of the property was very helpful and provided a lot of info about the area, restaurants ,etc. Also gave his and his wife's phone number ,if we had any questions or problems.
I would highly recommend Owl's Perch to my family or friends.
Great location and comfortable home. Spent a week here with my husband, 2 grown children and their partners. Loved the space above the boathouse..spectacular view. For mid October we had some very warm days and spent a lot of time outdoors...2 nights we had fires in the outside fire pit. Centrally located and we did a lot of hiking, biking and kayaking. Ampersand hike was nearby with amazing views and lots of color. We live nearby in the White Mtns of NH. Never spent any time in the Adirondacks and we will go back! Lorne was responsive to emails and we enjoyed a dinner out at Cafe Rustica in Lake Placid--a recommendation from the owner. The photos and description on VRBO website paint an accurate picture. Feel it was good value for the price.
We very much enjoyed this location. We were blessed with great weather Oct. 4 - 9 and an abundance of God's paintbrush as the leaves were in peak condition in our minds. This house was a wonderful private retreat for us Northern Californians to immerse ourselves in the Adirondacks. We hiked to Deer Pond, which was a wonderful pleasant walk in the woods of about 7 1/2 miles. Deer Pond was a beautiful lake framed by marvelous color. We also hiked Coney Mountain which is a short 2 mile round trip to an incredible 360 degree vista. We were fond of retreating to the boat house roof for end-of-day decompression! The vista from the top of the boat house for early morning sunrise was wonderful.
The lodge was fully equipped and very roomy and comfortable for the four of us. One of the neighbors (whose house you could hardly notice) was kind enough to share his collection of local brochures and tips on sights in the area. Saranac Lake and Lake Placid were also great nearby visits, including a canoe trip on Saranac Lake and going to the Olympic Ice Rink where our boys surprised the world in 1980. I am sure future guests will find the same warm environment when they come. This location is a value at any price!
Wanted a place on Upper Saranac (one of the world's great lakes) for a family get-together as we had previously owned property nearby. Spacious, comfortable, exceptionally well-equipped, superb waterfront (easy to swim in / boat from), and outstanding views. Roof on boathouse proved to be exception place to watch the meteor showers. Kids thru grandparents all very pleased.
Owner was very responsive and great to work with. House was exactly as described, very clean and fit our family of 6 well. It was well stocked with everything we needed and more, which made it very welcoming and comfortable. We enjoyed the outside porch, campfire and boat use. We would bring more inflatables to use in the lake. The water was very shallow around the dock area and perfect for rafts and other flotation devices. The house felt like a cozy, little bungalow on pristine waters with magnificent views. We did a lot of sightseeing during our stay, but enjoyed the scenery most from our back door. We look forward to another stay at this wonderful lake retreat.
Our family spent 2 wks. at the Lake and it couldn't have been a better time! The Lake is quiet and perfect for kayaking and swimming;(complete with a family of loons). The fire pit became the evening gathering place. The deck atop the boathouse is perfect for reading a great book or stargazing at night. We loved the spacious porch for meals. The location is easy to reach and close to many hiking trails and little towns to explore. Something for everyone!! Can't wait to return. The Bugenhagen Family.
