Deluxe 3 Br; 3 Bath In The Foothills Of The Smoky Mountains; Douglas Lake Resort

Enjoy "getting away" from all the hustle and bustle of normal, every day life in this luxurious 3 Bedroom, 3 Bath Log Cabin Located In Beautiful Douglas Lake Resort. This is a cabin you can come to and enjoy the mountains without driving up the steep mountain roads but close enough for a drive to the GSMNP! Makin' Memories is a great place to just relax or reconnect with your family and the beautiful nature that surrounds you. Fully Furnished, Makin' Memories Has Everything You Could Ask For, Including A Yard Complete With Fire Pit, Tether Ball and Picnic Table. Enjoy The Cool Evenings by the Firepit, with a Competitive Game of Foosball, just Rocking, or Soaking in the Hot Tub on the Large Covered Porch. A tether ball set in the yard awaits your children and there is a nice playground down by the pool and boat ramp.

Makin' Memories is new to the rental market. Over the winter, I added the third bedroom upstairs with log bunk beds (queen size) and put an x box, flat screen tv and bean bags for the kids (old or young) to enjoy. Its a bright, fun room with a nice bathroom adjoining it.

Close To The Pool And Boat Ramp, It Makes Spending The Day In The Water Just That Much Better. Flat Screen Televisions, Satellite TV, Wireless Internet, Fully Equipped Kitchen and a Wood Burning Fireplace are here for you to enjoy throughout your "getaway." Attending a UT game? This is the perfect location. Away from it all but just 45 minutes or so from UT's campus. Close to downtown Gatlinburg, Knoxville, Asheville and Cherokee. If you are in the mood for Pigeon Forge's Attractions, they are close by too! Here to do some fun shopping? Tanger Outlet Mall boasts some great stores, including J. Crew, Banana Republic, Polo and many, many more. Shop to your heart's content, bring your treasures to the cabin and relax by the fire or in the hot tub. Every woman's dream!

Douglas Lake is a fisherman's paradise! Don't have a boat? Rent one nearby at one of the local marinas. Fish all day on beautiful Douglas Lake then retire to the cabin to cook your catch! Plenty of parking for your car and boat at the cabin or leave it on the dock at one of the slips, which are first come, first served!

Peaceful and serene surroundings envelop you as you return home from a busy day. Enjoy the hot tub after spending the day in the great outdoors; whether it be the pool, the lake, shopping, or just sight-seeing/hiking in the beautiful Smoky Mountains which are just minutes away.

Some of the sights you may want to include in your vacation that are right around the area are:

The Bush Bean Factory—have your picture taken with Duke, the Wonder Dog, and learn all about the local family that still runs the Bush Bean company. Very interesting tour, includes a café and general store.

Forbidden Caverns: See all of the beauty that is tucked inside the Smoky Mountains. Known as one of America’s most spectacular caverns, these caves are filled with spectacular formations, natural chimneys, grottos, and mountain streams.

All of the Pigeon Forge attractions, including the Titanic, Wonderworks with amazing magic show, Dollywood and Dollywood Splash Park, Lumberjack Feud, Dixie Stampede, horseback riding, helicopter rides, zip lines, alpine coasters, go carts, trampoline park, wineries are just to name a few.

Just have to mention the shopping. Tanger Outlets at Five Oaks is a popular destination with great stores such as Coach, Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, J. Crew and a host of others. If you are looking for more unusual items, there’s the Village Shops in Gatlinburg and the shops at The Island.

For nature lovers:

The Great Smoky Mountains becomes your backyard while staying in this vacation rental. Hiking trails abound as well as roads for mountain biking. Ober Gatlinburg has tubing and ski runs and you can ice skate after riding the gondola up the side of the mountain.

Set against the backdrop of the foothills of the Smoky Mountain, Douglas Lake is a popular lake for all types of people. With 513 miles of shoreline, there is plenty of room for boating, fishing or just enjoying nature. There are campgrounds surrounding the lake and recreation areas which include picnic areas and restrooms.

Birdwatching is best from late July to early October. Nourished by three rivers, Douglas Lake has become the premier crappie lake in East Tennessee. Other good fishing includes: white bass, sauger, black crappie, striped bass, spotted bass, walleye, blue cat, flat head catfish, channel catfish, red horse, red breast sunfish and bluegill. Fishing is a year round sport at Douglas although spring and fall are the preferred seasons. From November to May, the wide shallow embankment, fertile creek hollows and stump beds, attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season making crappie fishing excellent! Spring is the best time for bass fishing but you’ll find there’s good stock year-round.

If you want to add a hiking adventure to your time at the lake, the trailhead to the Trotter Bluff Small Wild Area is adjacent to the Douglas Dam Headwater Campground. Hike the almost 2 miles of trail that winds through 30 acres of hardwood forest and limestone sinkholes to an overlook of the lake’s tailwaters. Springtime hikes are enhanced with colorful wildflowers that dot the landscape. The Dandridge Partnership Trail is a 1.2 mile out-and back that winds through wooded terrain.

**Douglas Lake is a seasonal lake regulated by the TVA. There will always be water in the main channel however, during certain times of the year there will not be a lot of water at our shoreline. The TVA starts to fill the lake over Memorial Day and it is usually full by the end of May. The TVA then starts to empty the lake after Labor Day and by the end of September, there is not a lot of water at our shoreline but there is still water in the main channel and you can drop your boat at one of the marinas on the main channel.

About Sheryl Mauro

Born in Texas and raised in Tennessee; I moved to Florida and lived there for 30 years. It was my dream to eventually return to Tennessee; East Tennessee specifically. Realizing that my mother needed full time care, I returned to this area to take care of her. I bought a beautiful cabin in the mountains in 2012 which I have been renting and after having lived here for almost a year, wanted to find a cabin on the lake that I would be as proud to rent as my cabin in the mountains. Well, this is it. As soon as I saw this cabin, I knew it was the one. Not long after buying this cabin, I realized it was crying out to add a third bedroom. This past winter, that's what I did! I love the room because its fun, sunny and bright. I call it the "kids nook" because I think my kids would have loved staying up there, especially when they were young. Whether you are a "young" kid or "not so young" I just know you'll like it. So now, I live here, and am able to share this beautiful cabin with you.

If you want a great family/friends vacation, this is the place for you. Upscale, easy to get to, beautiful surroundings, the lake, pool and playground right around the corner. What more could you ask for?

Sheryl Mauro purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Sheryl Mauro chose Tennessee

I've looked at a lot of cabins and this is the one that met all of my requirements. Beautiful, nicer than the norm, lots of extras. Good location; far enough away to enjoy nature and serenity but close enough to all the attractions of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, if you want to do that. Also, close enough to the Smokies so if you are a hiker, they are nearby! For those who want resort amenities, there is a nice pool and playground for the kids, also a boat ramp, if you'd like to rent a boat at one of the nearby marinas or, better yet, bring your own!

The name for the cabin came to me because this cabin and area surrounding it has anything and everything you might like to do. Its a great place to make great memories!

What makes this cabin unique

Makin' Memories has a beautiful, recently renovated kitchen. I've added a new dishwasher and washer/dryer, new televisions and hot tub. I love the fact that this is one of the few lots in the resort that include a yard with a creek. Its a great place for children to play or to sit out and enjoy the cool evenings with the fire pit. I just added a tether ball set in the yard for your kids to play with. There's also a playground down by the pool and boat ramp. Easily accessible and conveniently located, this is a comfortable cabin with lots to do and a great place for "Makin' Memories" with your family and friends!

Nice Cabin

  • 4 of 5

It was a nice, well thought out cabin. Communication was very good and the cabin was clean. It's a postage stamp of a lot but enough for the kids to play. My only complaint is there is a maintenance building (assuming that's what it is) that shares the driveway. So having strangers visit the building a few times while kids playing in the yard was a negative.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jim! Yes, although the yard isn't huge, its one of the 3 lots in the area and its nice that the kids can play out there. Sorry if you felt uncomfortable about the nice old lady that visits the building. I can understand your concern. I was just a phone call away, though, and would have been happy to help allay any concern you had. I'm glad you and your family had a good time in East Tennessee!

The cabin was first class with some very nice touches to detail.

  • 5 of 5

This was quite lovely for a family gathering with very nice accommodations for our 4 adults and two children. Even has an X Box in the bunk bed rooms (queens). The lake is no more than a 10 minute walk although I'm sure most will drive it and the community pool is adjacent to the boat ramp right there. I will definitely be back next year this time with a season pass to the Dollywood facilities for the grandchildren which is just a short drive away.

The property was beautiful! It exceeded my expectations.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience. We couldn't have asked for a better property and owner to deal with. She was very sweet. She left us a welcome basket with goodies in it. She was also very responsive to any questions I had.

The property was beautiful and had amenities that I didn't expect for the price. It had a hot tub. It had an Xbox One for my kids to play. It also had a selection of dvds too. There were flat screen tvs in every room. There were good size bathrooms in every room. They were also handicapped equipped which was extremely nice because my father n law is disabled. The rooms had nice size beds. And there was a bunk bed upstairs with full size mattresses on top and bottom, which was nice because we have 10 and 11 year olds. There was also a huge porch that wrapped around the cabin that had a table and chairs out there where we could sit. There was also a washer, dryer, and dishwasher. All a must when you have kids. The cabin was immaculate and had the cutest decor. You could tell that there was a lot of time and money spent on decorating the cabin. We felt right at home except our house isn't immaculate and is lacking in decor...lol.

great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay! Everything in cabin was very clean and well furnished. Wifi didn't work 90% of time and drive to Pigeon Forge was a 30 min drive. Other than that everything was great and homeowner was great and even texted to check if we needed anything.

Beautiful, Cozy and Clean!

  • 5 of 5

Great get-a-way with the family, good location for us! Sheryl was great to work with and was quick to respond to any questions I had. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed and more. The owner provides many details that you normally don't get...makes you feel very welcomed! A very warm and homey feel. The bedrooms were a good size and had their own nice size bathroom and there is an adorable table that's an easy set up with two benches that we used for a meal for all 6 of us. Sheryl, Thank you for sharing your special cabin and for the wonderful, thoughtful goodies! Donna M.

Great Fall Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was exactly how it was pictured online. This cabin is a few minutes from the main attractions, but it beautiful, spacious, and peaceful. We had a minor utility problem while we were there, but the owners were on it and took care of us! The owners were in touch, and very responsvile anytime we had a question. The goodie basket upon arrival is a very thoughtful gesture. I could not have been happier with our decision, we will be back.

Owner's Response: Dear Stephanie, so glad you had a good time despite the water issues. Hard to believe when they turned the neighbors water off, it turned off mine as well. You all were so kind to me while u tried to get it fixed. Thank you. At least it will never happen again, now that they know where the shutoff for my water is!
