Best Kept Secret in Austin
This place is amazing. Great spot for big groups. Highly recommended. Miles is very accommodating. I will be back again!
This place is absolutely amazing! Very unique and eclectic. Lots of space w/ everything you need.
We had 15 professionals visiting on a bachelor party from the Cayman Islands. The White Hat is located right in the heart of any and all entertainment and amenities you could possibly want. From daytime live music, to amazing brisket and fried chicken, to shopping, to the clubs on Rainey St. or 6th St., it's all right there! The property itself has something for everyone. Personally, I loved the Airstream experience! If that's not your thing, there is a house and cottage on property with traditional bedrooms and baths. There is also a very nice meeting area with flat-screen TV, surround sound music and kegerator! The owner, Miles, met us on arrival. He was very cordial and accommodating. He showed us around the property, answered our questions and generally made us feel welcomed. His hospitality was very appreciated, as he went out of his way for us on a couple of occasions. Our vacation was an example of how a 5-Star worthy experience should be. I have absolutely zero reservations in giving my full recommendation and endorsement to plan your next stay in Austin, Texas at The White Hat!
A Great Property Full of Truly Terrible Experiences
My experiences on this trip should not happen on any trip, anywhere.
As we checked-in for a 1 week stay Miles gave us a friendly intro to the details of the property, which was beautiful. My wife happened to ask if it’s a secure property given we had several families and children in our group. We were told by Miles about a transient in the area that comes on the property and steals the batteries of the remote controls from outdoor movie room and had possibly stolen several bycicles. This would have been great to know prior to check-in time and I’m not sure if we’re even told about this had we not decided to ask. With a large group on the way we had no choice but to hope for the best.
Sure enough, after a late night early in our stay, one of our guests woke up with her purse missing. She was staying in the studio apartment where she took her purse with her at the end of the nigh. Within a few minutes her purse was found with all her cash, credit cards and IPhone stolen. Her empty purse and wallet was left in the same outdoor movie room as the remote controls. I sent a quick text to Miles asking if anything showed up on security camera and sure enough he sees the same transient walk on the property around 3am that morning. Miles apologized profusely and promised to make things right but the damage had already been done. The guest whose belongings were stolen along with another family decided not to stay due to safety concerns. The remainder of our trip consisted of a early morning visit from APD to file a police report, a second late night visit from a transient who was confronted by guests and multiple other visits from strangers asking about the property. One couple gave us Miles name and told us he said they were free to look around. We also found drugs left behind by a previous guest in one of the airstreams and not the kind currently legal in most states for medical or recreational purposes. We had multiple families with us and all of these experiences combined make this rental extremely unfit and unsafe for children.
Following our stay Miles refused to reimburse us for guest safety concerns and only agreed to pay for the phone. He denied any liability for these issues even though he knew a transient regularly stole from the property. After 3 weeks of haggling and providing receipts and police reports he even shorted me $70 on the phone. I’ll definitely remember this trip and our stay but for all the wrong reasons.
We came down to Austin for a friend’s bachelor party, and the property far exceeded our expectations. The layout was beyond amazing for our large group and would highly recommend to anyone.
This is our second stay at "The Compound". We rented it for our employees that flew in for a work event. It works perfectly for a group. Miles, the owner, is so friendly and chill. We will continue to stay as long as he lets us.
Optimal location, very hospitable and attentive host, comfortable
We were a group of 22 people for a wedding and we had an absolute blast at this property. Such a cool and fun setting in the heart of Soco. Extremely unique, well cared for. Miles and Will owners and Joe the groundskeeper were all super attentive, pleasant, polite, and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. House with modern finishes and all comforts of home which airstream guests could share when needed but all trailers had AC and running water. Ample space to grill, hang, enjoy each other. This property is above and beyond, HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Within walking distance to many SOCO bars and restaurants. Downtown is just minutes away by foot. Watch the bats (largest free tailed bat colony in North America) from Congress bridge. Or, run bike or stroll along the water front on Town lake. Whatever the activity the property is in the heart of Austin's most popular tourist area.
