About Barb or Ernie Ulferts

We are Ernie and Barb Ulferts, we are always looking for something to do. Golf, fishing, grandkids, gardening and a love for life are our passions. The" Addie House" was the result of a search for a place the family could enjoy when in the Black Hills. Our family is located in Iowa/South Dakota/Nebraska, so Lead is perfect to get away and relax in this quiet neighborhood

Barb or Ernie Ulferts purchased this house in 2012

Why Barb or Ernie Ulferts chose Black Hills

We chose the "Addie House" at first sight. It reminded us of the old house we started out in when we married in Sioux City, IA. Barb has spent time in mountain areas and Ernie shares her love of adventure and appreciation of nature. Restoring the house was a labor of love, many of the items we use for decoration were in the house at purchase. Tracing the ownership through the years was interesting. We enjoy sharing our home in the Black Hills with others who wish to have lodging with a family setting.

What makes this house unique

The views from the front porch change with the seasons. Talk with neighbors as they walk a dog. Whisper to the doe with two fawns as they nibble lilac leaves. Our back deck with fenced yard offers privacy for cookouts and games. Minutes to the sites and sounds of Deadwood and the Black Hills.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Guests found the location to be awesome for Rally. The ladies loved the house; the porch was the hangout for the guys. Everyone loved the view from the house.

My friends and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Lead as we attended a professional meeting. The house was gorgeous and cozy and perfect for our time together. What a fantastic find! I hope to go back and visit again with my family.

extremely happy

Walking through the front door was like entering our second home. We were extremely comfortable. Everything we could have needed was available to us. Our wedding went so well due to our stay. We were able to entertain our small party of guests. The bedrooms and bathrooms were nice. The back deck area was relaxing. The propety has a great view of Lead and the surrounding area.

Welcoming and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived at the Addie House, it looked so welcoming. When we opened the door, we knew we had arrived at our home for the next several days. We were very impressed with the openness and the obvious hard work and energy that had gone into it's renovation. We were inspired by many of the decorating ideas and may use a few for our own homes. There were six of us, which included my husband and I and our two grown sons with our daughter-in-law and our youngest sons girlfriend.

We were set for a great time of motorcycling and the Addie House was a great location to easily get to our riding destinations. We had an especially awesome ride on 385, where our youngest proposed to his girlfriend alongside beautiful Pactola Lake. We are taking home wonderful memories of our time in the area and the Addie House was great part of this. It is on our radar for future trips to the area again and who knows, it may be a great place for a honeymoon.

Owner's Response: Feeling crushed to get a 4, we and the crew strive for perfection in cleaning and upkeep. May have been the on-street parking for bikes, sorry. Anticipation is the greater part of realization. May your vacations live up to your dreams.

Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed in Addy house at the beginning of June 2016. We are a family of 5 children ranging in age from 1 1/2 to 8 years old, and two adults. The set up of the house was great and worked well for our family. The owners were very accommodating; I had expressed to them we were in need of two booster/highchairs and a pack n play and they went out of their way to provide what we needed. We are beyond grateful for that. There was also a handful of "tourist" type of information provided for site seers. As is normal for family vacations, we forgot the most important bag we packed at home which happened to be the kids toys, thankfully the owners had a small selection of toys that each of the kids were able to enjoy and I really think was a life saver. We brought our own Apple TV and hooked it up to the TV with no problems, which was great for a movie night. They also provided a grill which was wonderful! we used it just about every night, though it was quite small for our large family. The owners provided plenty of towels, basic spices and propane; the kids enjoyed playing on the newly built patio and making s'mores on the grill. Barb was also very quick to respond to all of my questions. The kids favorite part of the vacation was visiting the Reptile Garden, which will give you a pass for the week of your visit. We hope to come back sometime and visit again. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!!
