About Barb or Ernie Ulferts

We are Ernie and Barb Ulferts, we are always looking for something to do. Golf, fishing, grandkids, gardening and a love for life are our passions. The" Addie House" was the result of a search for a place the family could enjoy when in the Black Hills. Our family is located in Iowa/South Dakota/Nebraska, so Lead is perfect to get away and relax in this quiet neighborhood

Barb or Ernie Ulferts purchased this house in 2012

Why Barb or Ernie Ulferts chose Black Hills

We chose the "Addie House" at first sight. It reminded us of the old house we started out in when we married in Sioux City, IA. Barb has spent time in mountain areas and Ernie shares her love of adventure and appreciation of nature. Restoring the house was a labor of love, many of the items we use for decoration were in the house at purchase. Tracing the ownership through the years was interesting. We enjoy sharing our home in the Black Hills with others who wish to have lodging with a family setting.

What makes this house unique

The views from the front porch change with the seasons. Talk with neighbors as they walk a dog. Whisper to the doe with two fawns as they nibble lilac leaves. Our back deck with fenced yard offers privacy for cookouts and games. Minutes to the sites and sounds of Deadwood and the Black Hills.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Guests found the location to be awesome for Rally. The ladies loved the house; the porch was the hangout for the guys. Everyone loved the view from the house.

Addie House fit our needs perfectly. Barb and Ernie made everything easy, including directions to the house. Lead is a great central location to all of the attractions. Thanks, we had a terrific time.

Love and Attention to detail

  • 5 of 5

We booked this house because we were looking for an affordable, centralized point from which to visit The Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Devil's Tower, Wind Cave and Jewel Cave. The house was better than we imagined. You can tell the owners put a lot of love and attention into preparing this house for visitors. After driving and hiking, it was great to come home to a kitchen which was fully stocked and a house where 5 adults could spread out and get comfortable.

Beautiful, clean home!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, updated, and clean home. We slept eight people, with one on an air mattress very comfortably. We would stay here again in a heart beat! The people who own the house were very nice and helpful.

Owner's Response: Vacations are sometimes judged by the quality of rest in a strange bed. We make every effort to give a good night's rest. Go forth, sightsee!

Beautiful house, central location for visiting Mount Rushmore, National Parks, Devils Tower, etc

  • 5 of 5

Perfect rental house for our family of 5. Addie House has been beautifully renovated and was very comfortable for our family (3 kids, ages 13, 11, and 8). The back deck and grill were very nice and convenient. After 2 days of driving to get there, it was so nice to find Addie house stocked with plenty of the basic necessities (toilet paper, paper towels, etc). Would definitely recommend Addie house to anyone planning to visit all the national parks in the area.

Wonderful rental experience!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Addie House for 11 days and it was an excellent experience!

Amenities were very nice that our family of 6 enjoyed. 2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 2 children. The location in Lead SD is central to so many nearby National Parks/Monuments--Mt Rushmore, Badlands, Devil's Tower, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, and Custer State Park and Crazy Horse Memorial. It is a short 10 minute drive to historic Deadwood.

We saw all kinds of wild animals! Deer visited our yard on several occasions. We saw prairie dogs, big horn sheep (Badlands), pronghorn antelope, a huge herd of buffalo (Custer State Park). The topography is amazing and almost other worldly. Try to get to Badlands. Truly worth the effort.

The home owners have completely remodeled the home. Kitchen is well stocked with cooking and serving utensils. We enjoyed the use of the washer and dryer. And the back yard landscaping is very attractive.

It was a very comfortable stay. We truly enjoyed it!

Thanks for sharing your home with us!
