History awaits in this 1865 Cabin. Escape to a time long gone.

Space 1,100 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

You will be taken back in time when you enter this cabin built in 1865 .

This is just the cutest little cabin that was the original homeplace for this property back in 1865. We both love LONESOME DOVE so we named this cabin for GUS. (We built a two bedroom "CLARA'S CABIN" at the other end of the property. Both are very private and have their own sense of a peaceful getaway.)

It has been updated in keeping with respect for both its age and our modern needs. The kitchen boasts a new stainless GE gas stove/oven and a stainless GE fridge. It has a porcelain farm sink and the floors....while not old....are stained to match the old plank flooring in the rest of the house. There is a comfy living room with a fireplace and DirecTV and fantastic stained glass pieces done by widely acclaimed stained glass artist, Pat Williams.

The bedroom has a queen size bed and off this bedroom in the front is a reading room/bunk room with bunk beds for an extra person...although this little house is more comfortable for one or two people. We can also provide a Pack N Play if given advance notice that you are bringing a small child.

The bathroom has a slate tile floor and slate tile shower with stained glass in the window of the shower and above the sink. There is a washer and dryer in the event that you need those items. We supply a hair dryer and linens and towels for your needs. We also supply shampoo, soaps, Tide, charcoal for grilling, etc., just like your home.

There is a lovely patio in the back with a couple of tables and chairs and patio furniture with an umbrella. There is also a grill for your outdoor cookouts! We stock the pantry with condiments and other foodstuffs for your use. We generally have eggs, butter and milk and soft drinks there for your use as well.

Whatever you would like to use at the Little House, please feel free to do so.

AND....if you love fresh farm eggs, then feel free to go into the chicken coop and get some fresh eggs and in the garden behind the little chicken coop, you can pluck some fresh veggies whenever the garden yields its crops.

Please pick ALL the fresh figs that you want!

Our big dog, Sadie, will usually camp out in front of the Little House just to make sure you are taken care of. She is an Anatolian Shepherd and was bred to be a livestock guard dog. The breed hails from Turkey and I know she wishes we had much, much colder summers... She is BIG but she is a sweet girl who lays around a lot and makes sure that you are safe and secure.

It is just a lovely little cabin. Please enjoy yourself!

About Marcia Lyon

We have lived on and loved this wonderful property since 2000. It is just the perfect spot being 1.5 miles from town and yet on 25+ acres of beautiful hardwoods. We both love the outdoors and this place allows us to enjoy the close proximity of town and the peace that is found in the country. My husband grew up in Levelland, Texas on a farm and loves the pastures as well as the woods surrounding us out here. We always have a few cows in one of the adjoining pastures and we enjoy them as well as the gardens and the chicks. Of course we have a wonderful dog or two always and our little farm cat wandering about.

I grew up in West Texas also... Amarillo to be exact, and just love our little Casita (and the main house which is a bit like a large treehouse)! We have a barn with a kitchen and music studio and of course work space for the farm stuff! Out in the back of the big house is a "Brew Kitchen" where my husband makes incredible craft beers from time to time..

Marcia Lyon purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Marcia Lyon chose Nacogdoches

We moved to Nacogdoches in 1984 from Dallas to raise our family in a smaller environment. When the kids all went to college we thought about moving to Austin or somewhere in the Hill Country....but found this jewel and it was absolutely perfect for us...with kids coming in and out with their friends, with our families visiting very often, with the closeness to town and the feel of the country, and with his work here in Nacogdoches we just had to stay in this area.

What makes this cabin unique

Since we bought this property we have added the barn with an apartment in it, and a waterwall in the back by the swimming pool/spa, a large fire pit, a pool kitchen, Clara's Cabin, as well as updating Gus's Place. We "vacation" there when we can't find the time to get faway. Sitting on the front porch, looking out at the cows in the pasture to the left or gathering eggs for breakfast or just relaxing make this a very, very special get away. Come see your college kid or just enjoy fishing at one of the area lakes or take in the many historical landmarks in "The Oldest Town in Texas". Relax at a wonderful, personal little cabin that is a quaint bit of history and leave totally refreshed and relaxed.

I think you will love it as we do.....

Quite the serene setting.

  • 5 of 5

There was a scheduling snafu and we ended up staying in Clara's cabin which is just down the road from Gus's place. Our host provided lovely extras in the kitchen and the cabin is beautiful and unique. I enjoyed the avian symphony while rocking on the front porch. We have already booked Gus's place for later in the year because we enjoyed our stay so much and look forward to trying the second cabin.

Best Kept Secret

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this little peace of heaven. We first stayed in this cabin back in April 2017 and have been looking forward to November 2017 coming so we could stay there again. Just to be in the quiet of the country, listening to cattle and chickens and away from the city. We are already planning our third trip back.

Peaceful, secluded getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin had absolutely everything we could have needed. We loved having the dogs and the cat around. The hot tub was our favorite part. It was very nice, and so peaceful. We had some much needed decompression time
