I am practicing professional painter and sculptor as well as a teacher. I am a native Californian. My father is a retired colonel in the air force so I traveled a great deal as a child and young adult. I have lived all over the US and Europe, and traveled a great deal in Mexico and Canada. I live in Topanga with my husband of over thirty years, Ron. We are very proud of the beautiful home we built in Topanga Canyon.
Linda Vallejo purchased this house in 2001
My husband, Ron and I built our home in Topanga Canyon fulfilling a life-long dream to live in the canyon's beauty and tranquility.
Our home is nestled in between Santa Monica and Malibu, two very exciting communities, and is only minutes from several beaches. The private patio faces directly south giving you a spectacular 180 degree view of Saddleback Ridge, the rising and setting sun and moon.
The two bedrooms are decorated with original works of art and are outfitted with exceptionally comfortable beds and linens. The master bedroom has a mini-frig, 39" HDTV with your choice of hundreds of films from our personal library. I personally serve coffee and tea to my guests each morning of their stay.
We had a wonderful time at Linda and Ron's Topanga Canyon house while in the area for a wedding. The accommodations were perfect for our short stay. The attention to details were evident and the hospitality very appreciated! We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet of the canyon and amazing views from the spacious deck. Morning coffee service was a delight! The mini-fridge came in handy as well. Would love to return!
Linda and Ron welcomed me into their lovely home in Topanga with open arms. The rooms are exactly as shown with an amazing view over the mountains. The bed was very comfortable. Overall, their space provided me a peaceful base in which to write for a few days. Linda and Ron were always available to brainstorm local attractions, places to eat, drink, and shop. I loved every moment of my stay! thank you!
Linda and Ron's house is ideally located to take advantage of proximity to activities near Topanga Canyon, Malibu and Santa Monica. Linda's colorful and mystical artwork adorns the walls lending a lively feel to their beautifully updated house. The large terrace is shaded and you will enjoy the beautiful view of the surrounding landscape and the hills.
The two bedrooms are extremely comfortable with great beds and ceiling fans. One bedroom has a nice large work surface and the other bedroom has the TV where you can watch movies from their extensive collection. The bathroom is large and has special touches like the magnifying mirrors and the skylight in the shower.
Hosts Linda and Ron are really nice. Linda is extremely helpful with tips on where to eat and how to get places. you can tell they love living in this special enclave of California.
They have a pet, an Oriental Shorthair cat which is very cute, and we got some great pictures of him. He often greeted us at the door when we returned from hiking or visiting family.
Topanga Canyon Highway is twisty with some challenging switchbacks, if you have to go to the Valley as often as we did.
If you are going to the beach and Santa Monica-Venice area, this location is really convenient. On the day of our departure, our drive to the airport only took about 35 minutes going the coastal route.
If you are hikers, there are lots of trails nearby. We hiked Solstice Canyon in Malibu, Temescal Canyon in Pacific Palisades, and Red Rock trail very close to the house. Bring plenty of hydration, a hat and lots of sunscreen. The weather in the morning can be deceiving because it starts out cloudy and foggy but around 9:30 clears up and is relentlessly hot and sunny the rest of the day.
Breakfast out is somewhat limited. The Mimosa Cafe is closest, and you will find a local crowd there. If you have plans for early morning, it would be more convenient for you to find a Trader Joe's or a Whole Foods in nearby Calabasas or Woodland Hills, and get some food and store in the mini-fridge.
We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to visit again!
Linda and Ron's lovely home is beautifully decorated with Linda's wonderfully eclectic artwork. My wife and I and our two adult-teen sons stayed comfortably between the two bedrooms, a shared bath with double-vanity and an amazing walk-in shower. Both bedrooms open onto a shaded, elevated patio that affords stunning views of Topanga Canyon.
A warm and gracious host, Linda served tea/coffee each morning outside our bedroom door. And while Linda and Ron live in the house and sleep just down the hall, they were never intrusive. In all, we had a very pleasant stay.
Thank you, Linda and Ron, for sharing your home.
This extremely well-maintained property is conveniently located between the San Fernando Valley and the Westside, with easy access to the beaches of Santa Monica and Malibu. It was my peaceful retreat for a two week stay for business and leisure.
The property is a separate wing of the main house with separate entrance and convenient parking near the entrance. If you need handicap access, however, this does not have that as there is a short flight of stairs from the door entrance to the rooms.
Each room is very comfortably appointed and well-decorated. There are no drapes on the windows, which given the secluded area and the beautiful mountain views each morning was refreahing, however late sleepers might find it challenging when the beautiful sunrises stream into the room early morning. I am a very early riser and loved my morning views and waking naturally. No matter what time I woke, coffee and tea were waiting for me to enjoy with the breathtaking mountain views.
My hosts were very hospitable and Linda, particularly went out of her way to accommodate any request. She is a delightful and kind person.
Some things that are noted in the amenities section, but should be remembered:
- No cable TV, but hundreds of movies in their personal library and a TV with DVD player to watch them on. The Internet access is extremely reliable so I also used my Netflix account, which was awesome.
- No microwave to heat up food, but a great little refrigerator/freezer to keep some items. If you need more kitchen facilities for your stay (we did not-who wants to cook on vacation?) they are not available here. However, there are a ton of really good restaurants in Topanga and a short drive away in Calabasas (if you are into sushi, try Sugarfish, it's incredible).
I would definitely stay here again. It was the perfect retreat after a hard day's work or play.
We stayed at Linda's place or 10 days over the 4th of July and were very happy and comfortable. Linda is a gracious hostess and we were pleased with all aspects of our interactions. The reservation process was seamless and she bent over backwards to accommodate our family. Upon arrival Linda greeted us and made sure we settled in easily. She was respectful of our privacy but available if we had questions or request. She was especially kind to the children and had movies for them and suggestions for activities. Our rooms were lovely, clean, and very private. The terrace had gorgeous views and nice furniture that created an amazing outdoor living space. The artwork and decor created a stylish canyon setting. Coffee on the terrace each morning was another unexpected treat. An ocean breeze kept things cool and wind chimes chiming sweetly. Luxe linens and memory foam mattresses are a nice touch adding a little decadence.
Linda provided everything we needed plus so much thoughtful touches. We will stay with her again & highly recommend.
