Steps From The Sea, Vibrant Central Area

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom , 1 Bathroom , 2 Sleeps

The Apartment

A comfortable double bedroom apartment renovated to a high standard, with a completely equipped kitchen (oven but no microwave…… this is France) and a large walk in shower room. The double bedroom offers a very comfortable double

bed, hanging area for clothes plus a tall boy for other garments, and a CD player. The lounge has plenty of comfortable seating plus a large flat screen TV and Wi Fi.

Both rooms benefit from hot and cold Air Conditioning. The apartment has conserved its original friezes and oak parquet flooring. It is located on the first floor with a wide staircase and also accessed by two lifts. The building was an Art Deco period hotel which has been converted and retains a lot of the charm of that period. There is TV security on every floor and a charming Portuguese couple concierge the building.

This apartment is located in one of the most cosmopolitan areas of the Carre d’Or one block from the Negresco Hotel (where there are good jazz nights) and very close to vibrant street cafes and food outlets, one minute from the supermarkets and wonderful fresh vegetable shops. It is a very lively area but the apartment is located at the rear of the building and sheltered from traffic noise and is calm and peaceful at night. It is 50 metres from the beach and Promenade des Anglais where its fun to ‘people watch’ - the joggers, skaters and walkers; the Promenade is always full of activity.

Bus from the airport takes 10 minutes on the Express coach €6.00 or only €1.50 if you wish to get the local bus from airport to very nearby. A walk to the Nice Old town takes about 20 minutes. The bus service in Nice is excellent and you can travel as far as 15 kms or more outside the town for the same €1.50 (€1.00 journey if you buy a carnet of 10 - €1.50 if you pay as you board.)

Carnets can be bought from the Azur Ligne office on the 3 Rue d’Italie, next to big Notre Dame church Jean Medecin; it opens very early, to buy a carnet take a ticket and wait for your number to come up, if you want more information talk to the receptionist as you enter.

You can also buy bus ticket carnet at the airport or in the bookshop 2 minutes walk from the apartment walk west along Rue de France

There are many festivals and activities all year round in Nice including the famous Carnival in February and many music events with famous names in the Jazz and better Pop music world. There is an incredible choice of food from many different French and Ethnic restaurants, and one of the big charms is that even in winter the restaurants on the beach open and many people eat lunch in the sun. A good train and bus service operates to Italy and Monaco, Cannes, Juan Les Pins, Antibes and other famous Cote d’Azur destinations.

Invoices can be supplied to those who want or need them.

PLEASE NOTE: for last minute enquiries I cannot accept any new reservation unless paid for at least 3 days before arrival so that my housekeeper can fit the arrival into her schedule.

About Mrs Oonagh Karanjia

Lived in France many years ago and have friends in this area. Finally given up my business, so have a little more time on my hands. I originate from South West Ireland but live in London now with my husband.

Mrs Oonagh Karanjia purchased this apartment in 2011

Why Mrs Oonagh Karanjia chose Carre d'Or

I fell in love with the ambiance when I walked in and saw the original tiling and the wrought iron lifts which I love seeing in old movies about France. I love the locality right in the centre of action but set at the back so very quiet, but really 50 metres from everything and so quick to and from the airport, just a few steps from the sea. Walks of 15 to 2O metres take you to the old town and many other things and places of interest, and the bus service is excellent.

There is a lovely Portugese Gardienne for the building.

What makes this apartment unique

It is a very friendly and multi national building, it has excellent security and I feel very much at home there. Our Gardienne of the apartments is from Portugal and is both efficient, kind and helpful. I consider myself lucky to have her looking after the building.

Lovely apartment near the beach

  • 5 of 5

Charming Art Deco property a few metres from the sea front. Close to all amenities but very quiet as the apartment faces away from the road. We found it a very good base for exploring Nice and the surrounding towns.

Fabulous location in Art Deco style

  • 5 of 5

Quiet, clean and convenient apartment. Lovely welcoming by Pat complete with wine, cheese and bread. Well equiped and the air conditioning was wonderful with two separate units made for a really comfortable stay when the temperature soared. Little garden boxes made for an attractive outlook.

Highly recommended.

Excellent One Bedroom

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was in perfect order with plenty of clean towels, some toiletries, linen, laundry and personal soaps, etc. After a 5-hour TGV train ride from Paris, I was extremely appreciative of the welcome refreshments the owner and the property manager had waiting for me. Upon arrival, the manager showed me around the apartment and showed me how things worked. There was also a leaflet of instructions for the appliances that could be referred to later. The free wi-fi allowed me to check and send emails daily, to research museums and other places of interest, and to find routes with my mapping software. No need to pay outlandish roaming charges of current phone provider or purchase a SIM card to make local calls. Everything I needed was on the Internet.

The apartment is extremely well situated: one block from the Promenade des Anglais/beach and all of the buses that stop along the boulevard going in all directions. Several bakeries, markets, and butchers' shops are within one block. With a 7-day bus pass, I was able to ride any bus or tram as often as I wanted all day long. It's a great way to see the city without having to drive. I even visited the nearby cities of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat to visit the Rothschild villa and Beaulieu-sur-Mer on the same pass.

The building manager keeps the building spotlessly clean and is to be commended also.

The apartment has plenty of dishes and tableware but, since I prepared most of my own meals, I could have used an extra pot or two to prepare additional cooked vegetables. If you ever need to contact the owner or the property manager, you will receive a response right away. There are maps and brochures in the apartment to help you start planning your stay which I am sure you will enjoy.

One note of caution. If you visit the office of tourism and you are told that you can purchase the 7-day bus pass near the Galeries Lafyette, this information is incorrect. That bus kiosk stopped selling them two years ago. Go, instead, to the bus office across from the train station. You can purchase your pass at any time. The clock starts ticking on the day you first use it, not on the day you buy it.

The apartment is so central and beautiful !

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is beyond amazing. They had everything we needed to enjoy our honeymoon vacation. It's central for tours, the beach is right down the street and bus stops are all around. The owners are so helpful. They literally were an email away if I needed their help on anything in Nice. They guided me through the apartment well in advance and told me how to get to and from the apartment. We did hear lots of noise over the week from apartments around us starting at 7am sometimes it was kind of hard to sleep in. They have all the guides in the room if you need to look at them, they have a nice open shower and open sitting space! Overall the best owners I have dealt with on this site and the apartment was secure.

Perfetta, comoda e dotata di tutti i confort

  • 5 of 5
