About the property

The Loft in Bird-In-Hand

The Loft is a small apartment (one large room) above our detached garage. We are surrounded by Amish farmland with an Amish school house across the road. You will see our Amish neighbors walking, pushing scooters or in their buggies using the farm lane directly beside our driveway. The grounds are also home to our six active children, one overly friendly dog and a beautiful cat.

We are just minutes away from many local attractions. The town of Intercourse is famous for Kitchen Kettle Village and horse and buggy rides. Also close to Rockvale Square and Tanger Outlets along with Strasburg Railroad, Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park, Sight and Sound Theater and so much more. We are within a few miles of famous Amish cooking restaurants such as Bird In Hand Family Restaurant, Miller’s Smorgasbord, Dienner’s Country Restaurant and Katie’s Kitchen.

The loft holds a queen size bed (with an amazing mattress), and two sleeper sofas (one queen, one single). The mini kitchenette contains refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee pot. The spacious bathroom in addition to a shower includes a whirlpool and double sink. The Loft is fully furnished with high thread count sheets and plush white towels. There is AC and wireless internet but no TV.

There are eight skylights in the unit creating a beautiful atmosphere of space and lighting. There is wireless internet but no TV. We have a back yard you are welcome and sit and relax in.

You may arrive anytime after 4 pm on the day of your arrival. There is no need to officially 'check in', the Loft will be unlocked with key inside. We ask that you depart by 11 AM on your check-out day. If you desire earlier arrival or later check-out, please ask as depending on availability (cleaning time requirements between bookings) we will be happy to accommodate.

If your traveling with another individual or couple, we have another accommodation called The Cottage on this same property with VRBO #667478.

photos are accurate per se but really don't do this place justice as an overall A experience

pros--beautiful grounds, Bernie Sanders-sized HUGE quarters, probably near 900 square feet. Bathroom whirlpool is great after a half marathon. AC packs a punch with a easy to use remote. SPOTLESS throughout, with 8 skylights and lovely sofas and chairs. Looks professionally decorated and built, I think the on-site owner is a builder and it shows. Kuerig was a nice touch as were the turndown-like candies.

cons--few and far between, but no place is perfect. Wifi was fair at best, but it did the trick most of the time. just slow and annoying with all the disconnects. but that's about it for negatives.

PS--Their black lab Razberri is just wonderful, a four-legged doorman extraordinaire!!!

Could not ask for a better place to stay, family owned and very CLEAN loft! The craftsmanship that went into building this loft is outstanding. Attention to detail with decor and extra windows make you feel like the space is much bigger than it is (although it is pretty roomy.) We had plenty of everything you would need to make your stay comfortable, did not have to ask for anything extra. The Jacuzzi tub was a lovely end to the day. Razberri will great you when you come home which makes you feel like you live there. We never felt like intruders, which is sometimes the case when you rent where the owners live.

Every picture I took in Lancaster county look like professional shots because the views are stunning! We always rent houses when we vacation and this definitely is one of the best.

One suggestion I would make and perhaps we overlooked it but it would have been a bit easier to come down the outside stairs at night if the light switch was at the top of the stairs. The light has a motion sensor which goes on when you get almost to the bottom of the stairs.

A must stay place

  • 5 of 5

If you are coming to Amish country you have to stay here. The place is beautifully maintained and is right in the center of Amish country. Antique stores and farm stands are abundant as well as restaurants. It is great to come back after a day out and soak in the Jacuzzi. Razberri the dog was there to greet us and is always looking for treats , so cute. If you are looking for a quite beautiful place this is it .

Beautiful Setting, Very Comfortable, Peaceful Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Loft. The apartment is very well thought out and very comfortable. We enjoyed watching the pheasants during our breakfast and had a very nice walk on Sunday. Razberry is a very friendly dog and greeted us on a number of occasions. The apartment has very nice views from the windows and is very clean. We look forward to returning soon.

Wonderful, home-like retreat away from home. Very clean, comfortable and close to outlets.

Upon arrival, it was clear that the owners of this sweet rental had put their special touch on the place, keeping it clean, up-to-date and comfortable. It was everything we were hoping it would be. The kitchenette area was perfect for meals in and the livingroom and bedroom areas were nice and spacious. The bathroom was beautiful, towels fresh and rolled up in chic baskets. It was a lovely place and one that we plan to return to!

Elegant, Airy, Divine

  • 5 of 5

Our largest concern going to Lancaster County was avoiding kitsch. We were hungry to get away, reground and find a place of simple pleasures/pursuits. Imagine our sheer delight when we found the Loft at Bird-in-Hand. Off the main route, across from an Amish school on a quiet rural road, tucked behind a beautifully kept home is a loft that is bright with light, simply elegant and beautifully appointed. Imagine our delight when we then realised the family is Amish, met their delightful matriarch who invited us for a chat on the porch and listened to the Sunday chanting from the barn and family farm compound behind us. Queues of buggies full of young people with shining smiles streamed in and out all day. Just delightful way to get to know the community. If you love unique cultures, want to meet the real thing vs the Disneyfied version and have a special intimate exposure to a beautiful way of life, this property is perfect. Right around the corner from everything with all the modern amenities but 200 years back in time. It was a wonderful 3 generations holiday where every member of the family had a magic time.
