My husband, dog & I stayed at Little Lucy for 10 days in July, the cottage was comfortable, cozy, and had what we needed. The location is excellent, a block away from downtown shopping and restaurants, right on Kalamazoo river. We walked everywhere, barely used our car. We were very grateful for the off street parking, as parking is limited downtown, and the spaces on Lucy Street fill in the evenings. Saugatuck is a great town, and Little Lucy was a great place to stay, we'll definitely be back!
As a pass real estate sale ls person I found the property in disrepair. Painting job made the house look worse. I wanted to scape paint of surfaces and scub the carpets. I'm not afraid of spiders but they freak me out when they are large. Landscaping needed weeded and lawn mowed. Grass at the end of the driveway made it very difficult to back out and driveway with is very narrow to back into. Luckily our stay was without incident. There was no charcoal for the grill but luckily the market was no far away.
This was our first time visiting Saugatuck and the Lucy cottage was perfect for our 14 month old child, 5.5 yr old dog, and my wife and I. The house is only about a 5 minute walk from the heart of downtown Saugatuck so it is accessible but also a little bit away from the crowds. The accommodations were great, had everything we needed. We got to meet both Vicki and Bonnie so it was nice to get to know them and learn some of the in's and out's of the town. We even got to meet one of the neighbors which was really nice.
We are not partiers so we really just did a lot of beach going, walks to get coffee (in the morning) and dinner/ice cream in the afternoon, and then early bed times. We actually spent a fair amount of time in the cottage as a result and loved it. Place was clean and Vicki/Bonnie both asked us multiple times if we had everything we needed (so good customer service).
The house is also about a 3 minute walk from our favorite restaurant in town (which is actually the opposite direction from downtown) called the Southerner. We went twice. :)
Other recommendations on food based on our small sample size (not in order of preference):
Wick's was good, but a little pricey (but overall worth it).
Scooters Pizza (soooo good, got the Hawaiian pizza)
Burrito Loco (great food and pretty moderately priced)
Pumpernickel's (they have outside tables reserved for dog owners....awesome).
We wish we went to Wally's, Ida's Red Kitchen, and maybe even the The Butler, but we are happy with where we went.
Only go to Kilwin's. Don't waste your time with any other place. We only tried Charlie's after our first time at Kilwin's and just kept going back to Kilwin's after that. Also, don't over think it, just get "Old Fashioned Vanilla." It's amazing and all that you need.
Just go to Uncommon Coffee. They have a walk up window (perfect for the dog owners) where we would order our coffee's and scones, and then sit in the back patio to enjoy our purchases.
Book it and have a great time.
Easy access to all downtown Saugatuck has to offer. Owners Bonnie and Vickie were extremely responsive to our needs. Thanks to you both - we had a lovely time!
What a great little cabin! It was cozy and warm. The area was great for exploring and very dog friendly. Hope to return one day.
We enjoyed Big Lucy and her warmth. The cottage was very clean and welcoming. We especially enjoyed being woken up by the sound of ducks quacking in the river behind the cottage. Quite picturesque out the back.We had all our questions answered by the owner quickly.
Saugatuck offers many art fairs and galleries. Take the chain ferry across the river to Oval Beach. Walk to town(about 3 blocks) or call the Interurban bus to pick you up at your door for $1.00. Enjoy the wide array of delicious food and spectacular music in pubs and restaurants. Visit the comedy show on Saturday's or check out the Saugatuck Center for the Arts(SCA) for current events.
