About Bill

I built this cabin in 2009 to be get away and possible retirement home. I have many memories of joyful times spent there and no camera can do the view from the front porch justice. Fishing on the Shenandoah and canoe trips for hours still bring me joy.

Bill purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Bill chose Shenandoah Valley

My Family has heritage in the Luray area and I have been coming back to it since a child. I built this cabin to be close to a slower way of life with the southern environment.

What makes this cabin unique

We sometimes refer to the cabin as the Relax Shack. Sitting back on the porch relaxing and letting the stress of everyday life just pass by. When your ready to explore the area it is only minutes to several adventures.

Heaven's View - Appropriately Named, Relaxing, and We'll Be Back

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and her sister and husband just returned from a very relaxing 5 days/4 nights at Heaven's View. This cabin was the perfect getaway and was exactly what we needed for a relaxing few days away from the grind. We spent most of our time on the beautiful deck in the provided rockers admiring the view of the valley below. Every morning we got up to observe the sunrise which was awesome each day.

The cabin has just about everything you need, including plenty of kitchen supplies if you desire to make your own meals. If you'd rather get something in town, it's just a short ride down the mountain. Bill was very responsive if any questions come up.

There is a satellite dish for those interested in keeping up with the outside world, and wifi is available, although we chose to "disconnect" ourselves for the time we were there. There's firewood available right in the driveway for a very small fee, and we built a fire in the indoor fireplace each night and in the firepit for smores on another night.

We just can't say enough good things about the cabin. The driveway that everyone talks (and worries) about is steep, but we navigated it just fine in a front-wheel drive SUV. We'll definitely be interested in a return trip sometime in the future.

Overall trip grade: A+

great spot for a weekend trip

  • 4 of 5

Five of my friends and I stayed here for a weekend. The cabin itself was beautiful and worked well for the six of us. Bill was very responsive and promptly answered all of my questions. We, like everyone else, had trouble with the driveway, especially the first turn off the road where the gravel is less well packed. A few lights or additional reflective posts further down the driveway would be welcome additions. The kitchen was very well stocked and everything was in working order. Our only other surprise was the pay-to-use internet. Great cabin - would stay again.

Wonderful cabin with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Heaven's View in Luray. It's an easy 2 hour drive from DC. We got groceries from the local Walmart and had no issues cooking our meals. We did a day trip to Skyline Drive which was lovely. The house was cozy and met our needs. The walls are fairly thin, so it's a good spot for a group that's going to go to bed and wake up around the same time.

Definitely make sure you have a 4-wheel drive car - the driveway is no joke!

Perfect spot for a perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Heaven's view is the perfect name for this home. The view of the mountains is second to none. I highly recommend getting up for the sunrise. It's worth it!

Our main intention for visiting Luray was to go to the caverns and do a quick R&R. This house is perfectly located for doing the caverns and close enough to Walmart and the Main Street downtown area that you don't feel isolated or like you need to pack the car like you would if you were going camping. When you're at the house, though, you feel like you are so far away from the rest of the world. It is so quiet and peaceful. I never wanted to leave.

The house is equipped with everything you need to cook and relax. The front porch alone was all I needed. I sat out there for hours and hours. The video game in the downstairs bedroom offered a nice diversion for my niece and nephew.

Many reviews have mentioned the driveway and so I was prepared. Although we were warned, I didn't have the option for a bigger or heavy vehicle so I chanced it. We drive a small hybrid cross over type vehicle and we had trouble getting up the driveway, but after the first go we figured out how to maneuver so we were able to have less trouble the other two times we came up it.

Regardless of the driveway, I would highly recommend this house to anyone and would stay again. I would also highly recommend visiting the Luray caverns.

Great! Would be perfect with just a little more attention to detail

  • 4 of 5

Beautifully designed and constructed cabin. Loved the two-level balcony and essentially floor to ceiling east facing windows. View is lovely. Porch swing is addictive. Communication with owner was timely and we had no issues with any logistics. Yes, the driveway is a tad scary, but it's a mountain. What do you expect? We made it up fine in a Corolla. Just go slow. Winter probably would require 4WD.

Just small things put a tarnish on our stay. There was left over coffee still in the coffee maker, the bathroom trashes had not been emptied, a hole in the sheets on the master bed, lighting in kitchen does need to be spruced up, better cushions needed on the deck chairs. Minor improvements would carry this place into the excellent category.

Beautiful cabin not far from downtown Luray with a breathtaking view

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Heaven's View this past weekend for our first annual sisters retreat. I have 4 sisters and this was the perfect place to kick back, relax, laugh, and share old stories while sitting on the wrap around porch with the most amazing view! The cabin was immaculately clean, well equipped with everything we needed, had comfortable furnishings, and it was tastefully decorated with some very interesting pieces. Caution: the driveway is a bit scary, at least it was for us. It is very long, twisty, steep and is made of gravel. Our vehicles slid on the gravel as we made each turn. We did not dare venture out at night in fear that we wouldn't make it up the driveway in the dark (no lighting). The homeowner, Bill, is very easy to work with. If you send him a message, he responds on the same day, almost immediately. Thanks for sending us all the recommendation on what to do in Luray. We visited Luray Caverns, shopped in downtown Luray, and went to Wisteria Farm & Vineyards. Such a beautiful cabin and location! We all had a great time and made lasting memories!
