About Bill

I built this cabin in 2009 to be get away and possible retirement home. I have many memories of joyful times spent there and no camera can do the view from the front porch justice. Fishing on the Shenandoah and canoe trips for hours still bring me joy.

Bill purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Bill chose Luray

My Family has heritage in the Luray area and I have been coming back to it since a child. I built this cabin to be close to a slower way of life with the southern environment.

What makes this cabin unique

We sometimes refer to the cabin as the Relax Shack. Sitting back on the porch relaxing and letting the stress of everyday life just pass by. When your ready to explore the area it is only minutes to several adventures.

My wife and I rented Heaven’s View for two nights. Upon our arrival, we found that it was full of dead bugs. Initially, we thought it had not been adequately cleaned and simply vacuumed up some of the bugs. Eventually, we realized the cabin was full of live bugs (not just ladybugs, but flies and stinkbugs as well).

We tried making the most of it but, after spending our first night there, realized that we could not comfortably remain for a second night. In particular, the bugs on the bed and the windowsills above the bed in combination with the constant buzzing of flies made it difficult for my wife to get any rest. Also, in the morning, we found that the areas we had vacuumed were already full of dead flies.

We informed the host that this was unacceptable and that we could not stay the second night. We requested a refund and was told that he would contact the owner about the issue. We never heard back.

On the plus side, the view is spectacular.

Heaven's View - Appropriately Named, Relaxing, and We'll Be Back

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and her sister and husband just returned from a very relaxing 5 days/4 nights at Heaven's View. This cabin was the perfect getaway and was exactly what we needed for a relaxing few days away from the grind. We spent most of our time on the beautiful deck in the provided rockers admiring the view of the valley below. Every morning we got up to observe the sunrise which was awesome each day.

The cabin has just about everything you need, including plenty of kitchen supplies if you desire to make your own meals. If you'd rather get something in town, it's just a short ride down the mountain. Bill was very responsive if any questions come up.

There is a satellite dish for those interested in keeping up with the outside world, and wifi is available, although we chose to "disconnect" ourselves for the time we were there. There's firewood available right in the driveway for a very small fee, and we built a fire in the indoor fireplace each night and in the firepit for smores on another night.

We just can't say enough good things about the cabin. The driveway that everyone talks (and worries) about is steep, but we navigated it just fine in a front-wheel drive SUV. We'll definitely be interested in a return trip sometime in the future.

Overall trip grade: A+

great spot for a weekend trip

  • 4 of 5

Five of my friends and I stayed here for a weekend. The cabin itself was beautiful and worked well for the six of us. Bill was very responsive and promptly answered all of my questions. We, like everyone else, had trouble with the driveway, especially the first turn off the road where the gravel is less well packed. A few lights or additional reflective posts further down the driveway would be welcome additions. The kitchen was very well stocked and everything was in working order. Our only other surprise was the pay-to-use internet. Great cabin - would stay again.

Wonderful cabin with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Heaven's View in Luray. It's an easy 2 hour drive from DC. We got groceries from the local Walmart and had no issues cooking our meals. We did a day trip to Skyline Drive which was lovely. The house was cozy and met our needs. The walls are fairly thin, so it's a good spot for a group that's going to go to bed and wake up around the same time.

Definitely make sure you have a 4-wheel drive car - the driveway is no joke!
