The Ashbach Cabin at Elbow Lake was our private cabin and home for 2 decades when we owned Elbow Lake Lodge. It is a premier cabin at the end of the road. It has 3 bedrooms plus a bunkhouse that will sleep 8 in beds. There are two full baths plus an outdoor shower. Enjoy a wood burning sauna, a large fireplace, kitchen, and living room with a wrap around deck and screen porch. Great for multiple families.
We are a multi-generational family that has loved this cabin for decades. We used to own the resort that is just down the road. We love the hunting, fishing, beach, and wildlife at Elbow Lake. Make sure to get out on the lake and enjoy the great fishing too. We also own Creekside cabin (VRBO # 720264) just down the road.
Chris Ashbach purchased this house in 1988
This property is at the end of the road. It is a wilderness destination and has awesome views of the lake. Built as a year round home, it has everything you need to relax and have a great vacation. Hike in the back, fish in the front, and enjoy the privacy of being the last cabin on the road. Enjoy easement access to the beautiful beach at Elbow Lake Lodge.
We had a wonderful week-long vacation at the End-of-the-Road Cabin on Elbow Lake. The deck is the perfect spot to watch the lake, the clouds, the stars, and the Northern Lights, if you're lucky! We had a comfortable stay with four couples and a toddler, though we did coordinate shower schedules. The dock worked well for our boat and an inflatable island, and we spent the days at the Elbow Lake Lodge beach or exploring the lake in our boat. In the evenings, we played board games in the great room and enjoyed the stone fireplace on cool nights.
Recommendations for guests:
-If you need specific pans/dishware for meals, you may want to bring them with you. There is a variety of courtesy cookware, but it's a bit piecemeal.
-Elbow Lake Lodge is very cute and convenient. We loved having drinks at the sandy beach, then getting ice cream for the walk back to the cabin.
-Cell service is spotty, but much better on the deck overlooking the lake.
-Chris was very responsive via phone and text when we had a few immediate needs. He handled things quickly when we reached out, however the Homeaway/VRBO messaging system was glitchy.
-The cabin is great, but it is managed remotely, and there were a few minor maintenance suggestions we passed along. As I said, anything major was handled quickly.
From the beginning I was disappointed. I have rented numerous properties via VRBO and this was by far the worst. Directions to the property were lacking. I had to go into the office at Elbow Lake Lodge to ask directions to this home which is NOT a part of Elbow Lake Lodge. The listing is inaccurate claiming to have 2 full baths when in fact there is 1 full bath and the master has a half bath (toilet & sink). The full bath has a spacious shower, but the entire 6-8 inches at the bottom of the shower curtain was moldy. The fireplace is unsafe, having billowed smoke into the living quarters even though the flu WAS OPEN all the way. The electrical wiring is most definitely NOT installed by an electrician. The microwave powers on/off by a switch on the wall, the dishwasher did not work, the ceiling lights in the kitchen can not be on simultaneous with the deck/porch lights, and the light over the dining table has it's cord stapled to the ceiling/wall to reach the outlet by the floor. With a boat in tow, we enjoyed that there was a dock at the property to tie to, but we were charged by Elbow Lake Lodge to use their boat ramp. The screens on the screened in porch were busted, the blinds on the master bedroom windows are bent and broken, and the grounds surrounding the house and the boat dock are NOT well kept.
The ONLY saving grace for this property was it's stunning sunset view from the deck and the full wall of windows overlooking the lake. Definitely NOT planning to return, NOT planning to recommend. ALSO...you MUST utilize stairs to access not only the dock, but the house. Please do not book this property if you have an unsteady gait!
The cabin was very nice and all ready for us when we arrived there, you could not ask for a better place to be.
We really enjoyed our time at the end of the road. Our highlights were the wood fireplace and sauna. We had both going for 4 days straight. The kitchen is very spacious. The cabins location is very private, beautiful setting - perfect for walks in the woods. We had 3 young boys that loved shooting their B&B-guns right off the deck. We really wished we had a boat available to use for fishing and exploring on the beautiful lake.
Had a blast during weekend, It's at great location and views are awesome. Surely recommend it to anyone planning for weekend or even longer stay. Thanks Chris for all your Help.
Our family, which includes 3 kids ranging in age from 7 to 16, loved our stay at the End of the Road Cabin. The accommodations were lovely and the home was well equipped. The premier feature of the cabin are the floor to ceiling windows that display a beautiful and unobstructed view of the lake. The lake was very quiet during our stay. While the cabin feels remote, access to the nearby resort allowed for easy access to dining options, a marina and helpful staff. We spent much time fishing off of the dock - the absence of a beach on site was not a downside as there was one within walking distance. The cabin was spacious - we could be together when we wanted for games and other activities but there were also beautiful spaces to retreat for quiet. Chris was a pleasure to work with and made the entire process easy. We would definitely recommend the End of the Road Cabin to our friends and would return ourselves.
Cook has a hospital, grocery store, and most other things you may need.
The cabin is 1/4 mile from Elbow Lake Lodge and has easement access to their beautiful beach.
