We have had the best family holiday ever at Casa Estrella. The casa was lovely and was a great base to explore real Spain. Everyone was helpful, the country side was stunning and the village fabulously Spanish. Wonderful barbecue area and terrace to chill out. We will definitely be returning..........

Return visit to this lovely stylish, well equipped Casa

  • 5 of 5

Great place to share a holiday with family or friends. The interior is well designed, modern, clean and cared for. The outside is perfect for chilling by the pool or gathering at the outdoor eating area and Barbeque.

The Goudi influenced garden has matured well and compliments the poolside space.

We spent some of our holiday resting by the pool and enjoying Andelusian produce on the Barbeque and some of our time exploring the beautiful very Spanish area.

Would definitely recommend.

Lovely villa with spectacular scenery

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in Costa del sol and we had a fantastic time. The villa is situated high up in the hills and had a view that never ceased to amaze me. The villa itself was comfortable and welcoming. It was spacious inside and the children enjoyed the darts and the pool table upstairs when it got too hot for them outside. The pool was clean and so refreshing, surrounded by picturesque flowers and plenty of room to relax. We enjoyed several barbecues by the pool but also enjoyed eating in the local villages 5 minutes drive away. Nerja, Torres del mar and Torrox were all close by where we enjoyed swims in the sea and their beach restaurants. Fernando (the manager) was very helpful and sorted out a couple of minor problems we had immediately. All in all a wonderful villa with spectacular views, shame we had to return to England!

Owner's Response: Hello Rowley, Thank you for your lovely review. It is so good to hear you thoroughly explored the area and took advantage of all the other villages, towns, beaches as well as the delightful Canillas de Acuituno. It is also heartening to hear how much you liked Casa Estrella, we love it here too and I am responding to your review sitting at the outside table looking across the valley as we have sneaked in an end of summer/Autumn holiday, one of our favourite times of year to visit here along with Spring. We hope you visit Casa Estrella for another holiday soon. Best wishes, Suzanne

Wonderful week in rural Spain

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at Casa Estrella. The villa itself is very well equipped and furnished - exactly what you would wish for in a second home in the Southern Spanish sunshine - and it provided a great base to explore the local area. We walked the Rio Chiller, bathed in Lake Bermejales and spent a day at the Alhambra Palace in Granada. We would highly recommend this villa - with a slight caveat for anyone who finds winding mountain roads a challenge, who may not be well suited to this region.

Lovely but a few issues which need addressing

  • 3 of 5

Lovely property although we had some issues which need mentioning.

The beds could do with upgrading. Mattresses were pretty uncomfortable.

There were only 5 sunbeds for 6 people and not the ones shown in the photograph.

A big attraction to this property was the pool lights at night but they didn't work.

Pool guy was great but we didn't see any cleaners for the full two weeks which we found surprising. The last 5 villas we stayed at had a laundry change and clean half way through.

The shower in the second bedroom only ran cold. No hot water for the whole 2 weeks. The others were fine.

The trees around the pool from next door should be trimmed as the slightest bit of wind filled the pool with leaves.

Great location though and Canillas is a beautiful friendly village.

Owner's Response: Hello Stuart, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We get lovely feed back and it is also good to hear of anything that needs addressing so we can put things right. Sun beds do occasionally break and the 6th sunbed was replaced as quickly as it could be. We do sometimes replace them all at the beginning of the season, in order for them to match, which is why they were different from a photograph but they were still an equally high quality adjustable sun bed. We love the slight overhang of our trees and colourful Bougainvillea at one end of the pool, it creates colour, lushness, privacy and some shade. If a breeze blows a few petals they can either be scooped up by guests with the net or the pool man clears them. The hot water in the shower in the second bedroom takes a little time to come through, it worked for guests before and after you but had there been a problem our house manager is very hot about putting anything right. The beds are of a similar firmness we have at home but we do appreciate tastes differ. Because Casa Estrella is so competitively priced for the accommodation offered we offer an optional mid-stay clean for a nominal charge. A lot of guests do not take this option as there is a washing machine and everything dries so very quickly. Again, we are so pleased you found Casa Estrella lovely and enjoyed your holiday. Best wishes, Suzanne

Gorgeous spot

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Casa Estrella. The directions were good and the house easy to find. The road leading to the actual house is a bit rough in places but not a problem. The house is in a fantastic spot with the most beautiful views. The house is very spacious and clean, well supplied and everything worked. The wifi and satellite tv connections were excellent. The pool table was good fun too. The pool and bbq area was lovely. All on one level which was nice. Gorgeous gardens too. Each evening the local goatherd with his goats passed by. Like stepping back in time hearing the goat bells. The local town was very pretty with nice restaurants and friendly people. Although the house is in a quiet location it is within easy reach of supermarket, golf, beach and sailing. The Malaga outdoor water sports centre on Lake Vinuela was very good with very friendly staff. We also spent a great day in Malaga itself which is under an hours drive away. Beautiful city with lovely bars and restaurants. All in all a fantastic holiday in a lovely property.

Perfect Holiday Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I had a sensational visit to Spain. It was my first trip to Spain and from what I had heard from other people who have been to Spain I expected a lot! My expectations were not only met but exceeded! Gorgeous views of the valley and mountains, beautiful weather and incredible company. The house was clean and comfortable and is situated within a short walk or drive to a quaint little Spanish village. I had an amazing experience and will hopefully be going again soon!

Torre del Mar
Car: recommended

Canillas is a very friendly and hospitable village with about 3 restaurants and more bars, several greengrocers and general stores and 2 butchers, a chemist and 3 banks. A fishmonger announces his arrival with opera music blaring through a tanoy! A 20 minute drive takes you to several large supermarkets/ shopping centre with a cinema and an Aqua park. Riding, fishing and sailing on Lake Venuela. Golf is nearby as is scuba diving.

Torre del Mar is 20 minutes away with beach restaurants good shopping and bars but there are also several small quiet beaches along the coast. Nerja and its famous caves are worth definitely worth a visit. (25 minutes). Malaga (Picasso birthplace) less than an hour for shops or culture. Also the beautiful Alhambra Palace in Granada (1.5 hours through lovely scenery) or Sevilla (a couple of hours). Hiking and mountain biking in the Sierra Tejada National park which is behind the villa. Eagles and goats can be viewed from the terrace.
