I am a military officer and pilot as well as a real estate professional. I have extensive travel experience and understand the nuances associated with creating a comfortable and memorable experience in our nation's capitol.
Since being built in 1880 numerous Senators, Congressmen, artists, and academics have all resided at what is now Hill Flats.
The building was previously used as a lecture hall and residence for scholars conducting research at the Library of Congress which is across the street.
Incredible architecture and historic charm in an unbeatable location.
The location was great, we were able to walk to the monuments and the Capital. It was a short Uber ride to other activities. The downside of the apartment however were many, the bed was not very comfortable, the shower had almost no water pressure and took forever to heat up, at night the lights from outside kept the room bright and the noise from the street made it hard to sleep.
We loved the location in East Capital Hill with Capital Bikes station two blocks away. There was some street noise but we hardly noticed it. The ceiling fan was a nice touch and needed for the warm muggy DC fall. Negatives: Mattress and bedding were of poor quality; mattress made my back hurt (very soft) and sheets kept coming off mattress. It literally took 5-7 minutes of running the shower to get hot water and water pressure was not much more than a trickle.
This place has a great kitchen, bathroom and bed. The smart TV allowed me to use Hulu and Netflix, just like we do at home or we could watch a little regular cable, which we don't have. All the major sites and museums are within walking distance or a short uber. We loved the neighborhood and really felt like this was a great choice when visiting the area.
Great studio. Ideal location! Nice neighborhood and great food options all within walking distance!
We are grandparents who were sharing the sights of DC with our 11 and 14 year old grandsons. The location was wonderful, and the boys nicknamed it the "Rocket" because it's on the 3rd floor. Quarters were a little tight but we moved the kitchen table to the living room and put the blow up bed in the kitchen, which created a little more privacy. We would definitely stay there again, especially if it was just the two of us
The apartment was clean and well maintained. Gene provided a good list of services nearby.
Since it was so hot, we used Uber when traveling farther than a few blocks. In better weather, you can definitely walk to all attractions.
Unfortunately the apartment door did not lock, so that should be fixed ASAP.
The location of the property couldn't be beat, if you don't mind walking or navigating the bus routes. Taxis were also an easy option. There were decent restaurants and shops to buy food nearby. We did have some issues reaching the property owner after arriving (BE SURE YOU GET INSTRUCTIONS ON LOCKING THE DOOR and get the contact info for the property manager...it's not the same person as the owner and the manager was much more responsive). It took approximately 2 hours to resolve the problem we had and, because I was traveling with a young child, I considered leaving. It was unnerving. The windows on the bathroom need to be checked and the water pressure is akin to a light drizzle. Overall, the apartment was clean and the additional amenities worked well. This could be a great property with some minor tweaks but even if it remained as is, I would consider staying again.
