About Karen Whitaker

Tim and Karen live in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia, but call Bryson City there second home. Karen spent many summers there with her grandparents, Troy and Maude Allen, enjoying all the offerings of the Smokey Mountains.

Karen Whitaker purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Karen Whitaker chose Bryson City Area

We built Troy's Treehouse on family land passed down from my grandparents. The privacy, yet closeness to town and the beautiful mountain views made it all the more special. We couldn't have picked a better location to soak in the hot tub under the covering of our magnificent porch.

What makes this cabin unique

One of the great things about this luxury cabin is location, location, location! Only 10 minutes from town, and only 1 mile of hard surfaced road off highway US 74. This cabin is motorcycle friendly, and you don't have to worry about any steep mountainous driveways making it a challenge to get to. Once you arrive to Troy's Treehouse, you can let your cares melt away in the spa boasting 45 jets. After a relaxing soak, you can enjoy watching tv in any of the bedrooms or great room. Then fix your favorite comfort foods in this plentiful kitchen with all stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.

Just like the pictures!

This cabin is gorgeous! Definitely well taken care of. The kitchen is nicely stocked with needed kitchen utensils. The hot tub was great as was the fire pit! The pool table was lots of fun. There are 2 bedrooms (with doors) and 2 bathrooms downstairs. The "3rd bedroom" is actually the upstaurs loft with the pool table (no door). The wifi was helpful for texting home as we had cellphone no service in the mountain. There were towels in each bathroom and extra towels for the hot tub. You may want to bring extra rolls of toilet paper as we ran out. And on a sidenote...the walls were super thin! You could hear conversations in the next bedroom. (Keep this in mind when bringing family! Lol) Beautiful back porch views! And the road getting up there is paved and easy! Loved our time spent at Troy's Treehouse!

It was exactly as pictured on VRBO. So happy with the selection of this cabin! Would love to rent again. The snow on the final day of our stay made it look like we were staying in a winter wonderland! Would definitely recommend!

Magical Christmas

  • 5 of 5

Troy's Tree House was a perfect place to have our family Christmas. The home is so cozy and only 15 minutes from Bryson City and the Polar Express. It was a magical Christmas, one our family will remember for a long time!

Peaceful, attractive, & clean.

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with this cabin. We stayed here while visiting Bryson City for the Polar Express train ride. The owners thought of nearly every detail to make our stay user friendly (even down to including nightlights in the bedrooms for the kids). The cabin is new, attractive, clean, & has all the amenities one could need. The cabin was very tastefully decorated to make the cabin feel warm and welcoming but not cluttered. There was plenty of space for our family of 5 and considering it is a mountain cabin, it was pretty easy to get to. If I had one request for the owners - it would be that they invest in a tankless water heater as we couldn't take very long showers. Otherwise we were very pleased, would recommend, and will stay there again should we return to the area.

Pretty Cabin with a sweet view!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Troys tree house over the Thanksgiving holiday. The cabin itself is gorgeous and the view of the mountain side is unreal. Never seen anything like it, especially coming from Florida. It's well stocked with kitchen ware and everything you need to get you started. WiFi worked great my whole stay. I did not have cell service at&t, only when I got into town. I had a party of 8 with 4 kids included. Still spacious enough for everyone. It's a cabin so the walls are a little thin. You can hear the kids playing upstairs but i didnt mind. We were unable to utilize the fire pit due to the wildfires in the surrounding area. The country over here is very beautiful. It's very sad that NC,TN and the rest of the south had to go through these fires. We got to visit Gatlinburg and Ober on 11/25 and actually witnessed a fire starting up on a mountain side peak. So beautiful yet so sad what happened over there. Ole smokey Distillery in Gatlinburg was a good time. We visited the deep creek trailhead and bryson city's polar express. It was a great time and hike. Beautiful waterfalls about 20 mins away from the cabin. We also got to see a black bear on our way to the deep creek trailhead. It was an awesome sight. I was very satisfied with my stay. I would definitely come back again. Karen is very responsive with her emails usually within 30 mins of me asking a question. Gorgeous Cabin, great time and experience for my family and I!
