This is a lakefront cottage on the top of a bluff looking over Lake Erie. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, 2 with a queen sized bed and 1 with 2 twin beds. Kitchen, dining and living room is one big open space. This 3 bedroom cottage is easy to live in. One floor living with windows facing the lake for the beautiful views. Watch eagles fly by. Spring wildflowers include trillium, trout lily, jack in the pulpit. Lake can be accessed by stairs just down Shore Drive. (The lake isn't accessible directly from the rental property, since the house sits on top of a bluff). Access to a larger beach is available down Shore Drive in the opposite direction.
The cottage does not have air conditioning and there is no internet, cable or network TV. There are 2 TVs with DVD players.
This is a cottage where you can get away from it all and enjoy beautiful views and being surrounded by nature on the wild shores of Lake Erie.
Originally from NY, I have lived in the Cleveland area for over 30 years. I work in a national park and love the peaceful connection I feel to the natural world when at my cottage.
Stacey Heffernan purchased this cottage in 2014
The cottage sits in the heart of the world's largest Concord Grape Belt, right on the Chautauqua-Lake Erie Wine Trail. The scenery is beautiful all along Route 5 .
“This may be the best place I've ever stayed. The house is simple, but beautiful and well-decorated in the way that contemporary conveniences are blended perfectly with a rustic and modern/vintage style. The location is perfect for quiet and privacy. I've never seen such a beautiful sunset, and it felt like we had a "private screening" for it. Absolutely perfect for a couple or family that does not want/need anyone else around. All conveniences (cookware, grill, grilling tools, bocce set, etc.) are included. Will return any chance we get.”
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this cozy and quaint nature hideaway! The birds and other wildlife greeted us while we enjoyed the back porch and the view of the night sky was nothing short of amazing! The loved the sunset how easy it was to get to the beach and the nearby town of Westfield; many antique shops and brewery close by - definitely a little something for everyone. Highly recommend this gem of a get-away!
This beautiful house overlooking Lake Erie is 2 hrs from Cleveland, close to Pittsburgh and Buffalo. Clean, freshly decorated with outdoor spaces for birdwatching, including Eagles flying past. 15 mins from Chautauqua Institution but feels rural with lots of lake activities and hiking. Great retreat.
The house sits on property just off a charming road and right on the Lake, with a porch and patio situated for amazing sunsets. One of the things we enjoyed most was morning coffee on the patio watching the birds waking and the eagles flying past.(One young eagle actually came and sat in the cottonwood and posed for a photo. Entry to the beach is close by and the beach is great for swimming and sea glass hunting. Located in "wine" country we enjoyed the wine museum and winery tours. It is also well situated for a a day trip to Niagara Falls and lunch in Canada. The golf course is right in the town and the nearby birding trails are well maintained and spectacular. We were able to join Audubon scientists counting, measuring and tagging birds. To have the opportunity to hold these little lives in my hand and then let them fly free brought tears to my eyes.
The house itself comfortably fit our group of five with room to spare. We are definitely planning a return trip and would recommend this home to a friend.
