Beautiful country house, fully equipped and sleeps 10 comfortably

Le Petit Prevallon is a charming detached, tastefully renovated country house with sunny terraces and a lovely small pool with roman steps. It comprises 5 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, attractive living accommodation with 2 large living rooms all in keeping with the property's period character. There is also satellite TV/DVD/CD and free wi-fi , plus modern kitchen facilities, all in a pretty village on the river. There are barbecues available together with sun loungers and garden furniture, with separate grassy area at the rear of the house for games.

It is only a short walk to local shops, a beautiful chateau, and a good choice of bars and restaurants are within 10 minutes drive. Within 30 minutes drive is a range of scenic beaches, and the historic town of Saintes with Roman amphitheatre and great shopping is only 20 minutes away. The local town with boating, a selection of restaurants, pool with watershute and a large supermarket is under 10 minutes' drive.

This delightful former farmhouse was built some 400 years ago and has been tastefully and comfortably restored with modern amenities in harmony with beautiful antiques and original features. The front terrace is ideal for outside meals, drinks and barbecues, and the rear terraces arround the pool are great for relaxing with a book, a glass of wine and sunbathing. The small pool is a real feature, with vines to one side and flowers growing on attractive old stone walls. The pool is some 1.4 metres deep and has shallow roman steps and a contracurrent for energetic swimming!! There is a grass area for badminton and football etc to the rear of property.

There are two large reception rooms, nicely furnished, one with satellite TV and with good quality furniture and fittings. There is also a good-sized, fully equipped kitchen, further kitchen area and a downstairs bathroom with bath/shower and WC (also comprising pool equipment, washing machine and ironing board etc).

Two flights of stairs lead to 5 double bedrooms, a bath/shower room with basin and WC and another shower room with basin and WC.

To the front of the property is a lawn with shrubs and fruit trees and to the rear two terraces and the pool area. There is plenty of off-road parking available adjacent to the old bread oven next to the house.

About Mr Charles Winder

We currently divide time between Tunbridge Wells in Kent and the lovely Charente maritime region of France . We have always admired the French way of life and the quality of fresh produce at local markets and having a house here has reinforced the vision of 'la bon vie' enjoyed by the French.

Why Mr Charles Winder chose Saintes area

We bought our house here in this region as it has as much sunshine as the Mediterranean region of France but is only 6.5 hours drive from the ferry port of Calais, The house has been carefully renovated and updated over the years with new improvements each year and we always use locally based artisan craftsmen to ensure work is to a high standard..

The other big attraction for us was the quality of the light with vast skies.

The property itself was built about 1655 and has thick stone walls keeping it cool in summer and warm at cooler times of year.

What makes this house unique

The great benefit of our house in crazannes is its position in one of the prettiest villages in the area and the fact that within 5 minutes walk you can visit the local chateau , fish, swim or go boating on the river or shop at local deli/butcher for fine food to barbecue or grill and enjoy with some local wine. Within 10 minutes is local town of St Savinien with its outdoor pool with water slides, boating lake and park , several good restaurants and a variety of shops and a supermarket. Within 30/40 minutes are some of best beaches in France.

Idyllic location and beautiful house

We had a fantastic holiday at this beautiful house. The property is very characterful but yet has everything you need and has been restored recently. It was very clean and comfortable. The pool area is fantastic for lazing on sunny afternoons, and the very pretty front garden was our preferred barbecue spot! Idyllic surrounding area with great walks, lovely chateaux, beaches half an hour away and some excellent restaurants. Highly recommend a visit!

super house in great situation

spent lovely two weeks in this lovely 17th century villa. lots of character but nicely updated and comfortable with all equipment that was needed .....particularly loved long lazy days by pool with glass of wine and evenings cooking outside with great night sky and zero light pollution ...we will be back !!!

Boating, swimming and fishing all within 5 minutes walk. Chateau in village open to public, two further chateaux within 10 minutes. Mini golf, swimming pool with shute, tennis and boating lake all within 7 minutes. Golf courses are available in Saintes and Cognac. Saintes with its Abbey, Roman amphitheatre, and great shops is 20 mins drive. Cognac with its tasting tours and exhibitions is 40 mins. La Rochelle with its lovely old port area ,bars and seafood restaurants is 40 mins. Royan with its fantastic beaches is 35 mins. The islands with spectacular birds, forests and beaches are within one hour. Bordeaux and St Emilion are 90 mins away.
