About Corey Swift

We were engaged on the front porch of this beautiful, cabin and it holds many memories. My favorite place to sit in the world, is on the front porch taking in the views of Mt. Princeton, and Mt. Antero. In the fall, when the aspens are changing, the view is breathtaking. My husband and I have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the renovation of this property and it is now as quaint and lovely as anywhere we've stayed.

Corey Swift purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Corey Swift chose Nathrop

It's a great stay for people who love to hike, fish, ATV, and love the views and to get away from the city. Views from every direction, we are a short walk from private lake Alpine. You can't view the lake from our property but you can see it as you walk up past 3rd street and hang a left up the slight hill. This is a very remote little town just past Mt. Princeton hot springs, with only about 30 total residences. Its the first cabin you see when you come in to town. With a hammock on property, you can relax with a book or a friend and take in the sounds of the nearby river, the woods, and smell the fresh air and at night, take in spectacular views of the planets and stars.

There's a fire pit on prem and it's fun to enjoy S'Mores, and sing and listen to music or the sounds of the peaceful night sky. You'll see deer and occasionally, we've seen moose. Listen for the mysterious sound of the "ghost train" go by at night and the sound of the train from the 1800's go by!

Great ATV trails and hiking, fishing, or head to the Mt. Princeton spa for a dip or a slide... or enjoy horseback riding or white water rafting right nearby. We don't have cable TV, as this is truly a get away. We do have WIFI and phones at the house through the internet. You can hook up to WIFI if necessary. It's a remarkable getaway and you'll have memories to keep and enjoy from your mountain vacation at the original "foreman cabin" built originally in 1881, but completely updated and beautiful today!

What makes this cabin unique

Just steps away from fishing, hiking, ATV rides, and a short drive to Mt. Princeton, or walk/ride to St. Elmo - ghost town. Feed the chipmunks, take in the sites, shop and relax among the kind mountain people.

Location

360 degree mountain view with hiking, fishing, ATV'ing!

Very nice, clean cabin with great views

  • 5 of 5

We had a very pleasant, relaxing three day stay. The cabin was very clean and well maintained, with all of the modern appointments. The views were stunning and the aspens in early October were spectacular -- thoroughly enjoyable.

Incredible cabin getaway

  • 5 of 5

We lucked upon this little cabin for our anniversary weekend and could not have been happier. We'd probably have a lot more to write about the house but with the Fall turn in full-effect, we spent more time on the trails than in the cabin. That said, when we finally shed our hiking gear, cracked open a few beers and relaxed, the cabin was the perfect amount of quiet and modern touches.

The hosts have thought of everything- from the stocked kitchen to the wifi to the bunkhouse (we didnt use it, but peeked in- looked great for our kids on the next getaway) it is a great cabin in a super quiet neck of the woods.

Beautiful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We Loved this cabin and are looking forward to staying here again sometime! It has everything you would need! So comfortable and so very cute! We enjoyed fishing in the river across the street, loved driving up to St. Elmo and of course loved spending time in Buena Vista! The fire pit was amazing, especially with the moon glowing through the trees! Thanks for a great family stay! Mary

Darling Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent 5 nights in this cabin and had a wonderful time there. The cabin is darling, ... even nicer than the photos on the webpage show. Even though it's a very old cabin, it's been completely renovated inside and looks brand new. It's spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and cozy and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals, the bed in the master is very comfortable, and the bathroom has plenty of hot water and a good shower head. Clean, comfortable furniture, and a lovely fireplace that warms the entire cabin. The view from the front porch is very pretty of the mountains across the way, and you can hear a nearby river flowing by from the porch.

There is lots of good hiking nearby (Alpine Tunnel Trail, the Narrow Gauge Trail, and Brown's Creek Waterfall Trail are three great hikes we took). And St. Elmo is a fun ghost town only 10 min. away where chipmunks will climb in your lap and eat sunflower seeds out of your hands. Mr. Princeton Hot Springs is also 10 min. away, where you can swim and soak in the natural hot waters or eat a meal. Buena Vista and Salida are towns with very nice historic downtown areas that are fun to visit. So lots to do in the area!

The owners, Kira and Corey, are very warm and friendly. Although they live in Denver and you probably won't see them, they are just a text or email away if you need anything. They made us feel very welcome.

So if you're looking for a quiet, private, and comfortable cabin in the forest, this is the place for you. We would come again and would recommend it to anyone

Cozy cabin with something for everyone

  • 5 of 5

It was a welcome respite from the Texas heat! We just loved the location and our boys loved the 'bunkhouse'! I loved coffee on the porch and seeing a doe & her fawn walk by! We had rain during the day a few days, but the cabin was fully stocked with movies and games to wait it out! There's also a small, neighborhood lending library, a short walk around the corner. It's a quick 5 mile drive to Wright's Lake and even less to Chalk Lake or even right along the road to fish. Many places to bike, hike, geocache, and fish. It's also a short drive to Buena Vista and no too far from Salida if you need a little bit bigger town. We did not attempt the rafting (too much rain), but maybe next time? Horseback rides & ATV rentals also nearby. The owners were very quick to respond to questions. Thanks for a great week!
