The Mountain View property has been in the Herbert Family since 1964. Our family was originally from San Diego and eventually ended up in the Northwest. The house was built in 2002 and was just recently updated spring of 2015. My Wife Ellen and myself currently reside in Priest River Idaho and still spend a lot of time in West Glacier during the off season and Holidays.

Paul Herbert purchased this cabin in 1964

Beautiful, comfortable property in secluded area convenient to West Glacier

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed a wonderful week in this beautiful home. We were amazed. The pictures don't do it justice. It is great place to stay while visiting Glacier Park. The house was very well stocked with everything you might need. There were paper goods, the bathrooms had soap, shampoo, etc. There were plenty of sheets, towels. The pantry was full of everything you would have at home for cooking. We made blueberry muffins and gourmet pasta sauce among other things. The beds were comfortable. There was lots of space to sit and read or visit. There was a nice barbeque and outdoor patio seating. The "bunk house" garage is perfect for kids. It comes stocked with a pingpong table, a game table and board games as well as two bunk beds and a Murphy bed. Window screens would be good so that there could be some fresh air at night.

Although there were lots of TVs available, we didn't even turn them on because we were so busy outdoors.

We enjoyed the secret path through the woods to the Great Northern Resort where the red caboose has coffee and light snacks. One of our group said his favorite thing of the week was our Friday evening pizza dinner on the resort's patio while listening to lively music from a local group.

We saw some deer in the area around the house very early one morning as well as lots of squirrels and chipmunks.

Too bad that the private train crossing nearby necessitates the frequent blowing of the train horn. It didn't seem to keep any of us awake, but could be aggravating if you were a light sleeper. We thought it added to the charm of the place.

Modern house in the rustic setting

  • 5 of 5

We spend 4 nights at the house and we enjoyed it very much. The house is very modern with all modern appliance, comfortable beds and a view that cannot be beat! We enjoyed playing ping pong in the evening and just sitting on the veranda outside. We found everything that we need to cook meals in the house as well. It was a very short drive to the West Glacier center that had a restaurant and a grocery store. The drive to the entrance of the park was not that bad either. Over all we had a very good time staying there.

Every aspect of this property was perfect and our stay was incredibly enjoyable.

Our group hiked every day and the location was very close to the park entrance.

Lovely home with gorgeous view only 1.5 miles from Glacier Park

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for seven nights Sept. 12-19, 2016 in this wonderful home. The home had everything we needed except instructions on how to run the TV and DVD player. It is very private and secluded. We saw three deer in the yard during the week. The kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were clean and well furnished, and there would have been room for our six grandkids. We had great weather most of the week and accomplished all the hikes and places in the park that we wanted to see. We recommend the one-hour helicopter ride over the park. We really liked the food at the Glacier Inn. We highly recommend this property. Art and Lois Deyo

Great house but too close to trains!

  • 4 of 5

We really loved the house. It was well equipped with everything we needed. Loved the seclusion and its location to the park. Great tips on places to eat. We even did a float rafting trip based on the brochures left in the house. Our only complaint was the noise from the trains at night. There were many more than I anticipated (counted 9 one night). Even sleeping with earplugs didn't help with the whistle's blown at the nearby street crossings. Other than the lack of sleep, we loved it!
