Fall is lovely in Saugatuck...apple picking, beautiful colors, fall festivals and Halloween
Three Gables is a quaint cottage on the Hill that offers all the modern conveniences. There are 3 large bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen and 1 full), a galley bath with tub and shower, a three-season screened in porch overlooking the yard, a new deck in back with a BBQ, cable, internet and a cute kitchen. The backyard is huge and private with a forest feel and completely fenced. Enclosed dog run right off the bedroom. There is cable, wifi and a DVD and many movies and games for the kids.
The screened-in porch is furnished with a comfortable wicker couch, chairs and table for dining. There are 2 additional dining areas-one in the dining room and one outside on the backyard deck.
The spacious living room offers flat screen tv and dvd, with lots of room to lounge about. There is internet access, and washer and dryer.
The kitchen is always open! If you choose not to eat in one of the many fantastic restaurants, cook at home with utensils, pans, etc. or grill outside on the patio. The knotty pine walls are light and airy to give an open feeling. The park-like setting in the backyard gives a beautiful view and privacy.
Family and friends will be able to relax in the large living room and 3 season room; plus downtown is a short walk away. You won't need to worry about parking.
We provide start-up paper towels, toilet paper, kleenix, dish detergent, laundry detergent, soap, garbage bags and coffee. We suggest you bring beach towels, sun screen and bug spray.
The run for the dog is right off 2 bedrooms so you won't need to go far if someone needs out at night....just open the door!
We love antiques and art and a cottagey feel so we have tried to provide that for our quests. Hope you like it also.
As we said, dogs are welcome but their doo-doo isn't.. Please pick up after your dog. There will be a $25 charge if we have to do it. There is a pet fee of $50 per dog.
Ernie and Chris are native Nebraskans that retired to Saugatuck, Michigan in 2008. They enjoy boating, being with their grandchildren, being with the wonderful friends that they have met and indulging, probably too much, in the wonderful restaurants. Ernie works on this vintage cars and Chris is on the City Council. They still find plenty of time to enjoy the beauty of Saugatuck, and say every day "I can't believe we live here."
Chris Peterson purchased this house in 2012
Three Gables is our backyard neighbor. It is a beautiful wooded lot with lots of run to run, play games, cook out or just catch some sun.
Saugatuck offers many types of rentals but we preferred the cottage atmosphere. Three Gables was build in the 1930's and has the beautiful crown molding throughout. The screened in porch has a wicker table and chairs and sitting area that overlooks the front yard and perfect for reading a book or playing cards. We loved the large bedrooms and huge windows. Everything has been newly painted along with all new electric. The backyard is lovely so we added a new deck so you could enjoy it more. And most importantly, we live on the "Hill" and walk downtown and wanted our guests to have the same option. Plus we love our dog and travel with her, and we wanted our guests to also be able to bring that important part of their family.
The large rooms with large windows make the bedrooms light and airy. We like large beds so we wanted to offer both a queen and a king. The full sized brass bed is in the red room, which has a nautical theme. We love art and antiques and have tried to incorporate those throughout the home. We wanted to furnish Three Gables in the same type of furniture that we love in our house.
My extended family and I spent a wonderful autumn weekend at the Three Gables. The cottage was charming, immaculately clean and so very functional. What a great layout with the "gathering" area in the center of the cottage and the three bedrooms on the outside. The yard was huge and beautifully landscaped. It was an easy stroll into downtown Saugatuck, but was far enough away to be peaceful and quiet. All of our needs were taken care of, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Three Gables. Thank you so much!
Wonderful place to stay, very easy walk to town. Bed was comfortable. Nice living room with low table suitable for board games. Muskoka room had a nice glass table great for cards or puzzles. Owners helpfully ran over some dishwasher detergent when we mentioned we couldn't find it. +1 would stay again.
My wife and I had a lovely time at this peaceful and comfortable home. The front porch is airy and comfortable and the back patio was a great space to BBQ and enjoy the summer. Our dog really enjoyed the spacious and fenced yard. We loved our time in Saugatuck and had a wonderful experience staying at the house.
Background: My immediate family has been vacationing in Saugatuck for the last 13 years. I have been coming since I was little. Before that, my dad's family had been coming since he was little. Before that, my grandparents spent their honeymoon in Saugatuck. It is our first choice every year. Prior to this year, we had stayed the last 12 years in a different house, which is no longer for rent.
Overall: The house is big enough to give a family of 5 enough space to relax without getting in each other's way. It is comfortable and clean, with a yard big enough to do whatever you want.
Porch: The porch has two parts...a side big enough to eat dinner around the table, and the other side to relax on the couch or chairs. The windows open to allow for a breeze to flow through, keeping the space very comfortable. I spent every morning on the porch. And at night, we played board games and cards with the kids around the table.
Living Room: The room is big enough to not run into each other, and comfortable enough for everyone to tune out around the TV. The fireplace is a nice decoration (not sure if it works). It is clean, comfortable, and in-sight of each of the three bedrooms.
Bedrooms: All the bedrooms are big and with plenty of closet and drawer space. My kids had plenty of room for all their clothes and extras, as well as space to play on the floor. Again, very clean.
Dining Room: There should be a law against eating in a dining room in Saugatuck if you can either eat outside or on the porch. I might speak with the Mayor about this! We used the table to stack clean laundry.
Laundry Room: It is essential to have a laundry room when you stay for a week. We used it for our clothes, swimsuits and towels, and bath towels prior to leaving. It is a must-have for us.
Kitchen: The kitchen is big enough to cook simple or complex meals. We did both. I do recommend supplying dish and hand towels, but you can purchase those at the General Dollar for cheap ...if paper towels aren't your thing. There is a nook in the kitchen for sitting and judging the cook on how well the meal is being prepared...or for a kid's time-out.
Back Deck: The deck has a table and umbrella. Again, I believe there is a law requiring outside eating in Saugatuck. This deck is perfect for it. The yard is huge and fenced. There is also a gas grill in the back sitting on top of a brick patio with chairs for relaxing.
I highly recommend staying at 3 Gables!
The house was just as advertised. Very clean, perfect location, and exactly what we needed for a great get away. Chris is great to deal with, very responsive, and provided anything that we asked for. We'll be back for sure.
The cabin was charming with a very cute front porch and plenty of room inside. The yard is big with lots of trees. We grilled using the backyard gas grill both nights. The walk to town was pretty easy. The owners live close by and are available if needed for anything. They are very friendly and ready to please. The kitchen is pretty small -- which was totally fine for us -- but you might not do lots of gourmet cooking. It was just right for our grilled meats and salad.
Saugatuck is the gateway to Oval Beach, a nationally rated beach. It overlooks the Kalamazoo Harbor and offers excellent shopping, fantastic restaurants, and amazing boating and swimming water sports. There are hiking trails and biking trails, dunes rides and paddleboat rides, kayaking and paddleboarding, and all types of fishing. There are top of the line clothing shops, art galleries, local wine cellars, jewelry stores and every imaginable home goods stores. The dining options are unlimited with everything from waterfront dining to grabbing a quick hot dog at the ice cream parlor. Hercules offers fantastic Greek food and Wicks has the best chicken fingers and fish tacos ever. Can't beat the Butler for a burger and Bowdie's is the place for steaks. Numerous other restaurants and don't forget the bars for great entertainment. You have to do the Piano Bar!! There are numerous parks throughout the downtown and county and state parks within a short drive. They provide beautiful walks through the forest to the beautiful dunes and right into Lake Michigan,
