The Sunday times put Pentrez Plage in their top 20 beach holidays in Europe.
Spectacular sea views from this large comfortable modern villa, tastefully furnished and well equipped for a beach holiday. Only 300m walk down to the huge sandy beach at Pentrez. The beach is perfect for young children and there are a number of water sports available including a kite surfing school and sand sailing as well as the most common past times of surfing, body boarding and rock pools.
Finistere - 'the end of the earth' - is the area of the druids and magical legends akin to Cornwall with the tales of King Arthur and Merlin. There are celebrations of these legends and traditions all around - the rocks at Huelgoat, the druid parade at Locronan and the large fest-noz at nearby Plomodiern to mention a few.
Set on the edge of the Crozon Peninsula, you can find some spectacular scenery from the wild cliffs that give way to lovely coves and empty beaches. A drive to Camaret sur Mer will take you pass one beach busy with those surfers waiting for the next big wave!!
The tide at Pentrez goes out so far that you can take the beach walk from there to Telguc sur Mer passing by a fantastic inlet where there all kinds of birds, flora and fauna. You may have to take the road back though!
For those that enjoy walking, the Menez-Hom is the highest point in Finistere (an easy walk I've heard) and great views when you get to the top!! For the braver ones there is a hand gliding school nearby - people launching themselves off the top!
Pentrez is also well placed for exploring this lovely part of Brittany.
The large port and fishing town of Douarnenez;
The historical town of Quimper and its pottery;
Camaret sur Mer with its galleries and port;
Chateaulin - a pretty town on the River Aulne which has an excellent market; Morgat - a really pretty town with a very large beach and Marina in a sheltered bay - a great place for water sports; boat trips; sailing, surfing, wind surfing schools for both adults and children in English.
Crozon - great indoor pool for those rainy days.
Brest - large port with historical importance - often visited by the tall ships. A must visit is 'Oceanopolis' - a whole day out for the family.
La 'Grande Baie' is a perfect place for a relaxing holiday by the beach. Set up the hill from the village of Pentrez, it has great views over the whole bay, beach and village. Access to the beach can be by car down the winding hill and there is plenty of parking. By foot it is some 300m by crossing into the road opposite and down the path directly to the beach - a much better way!
Pentrez Village (sea front) has a few bars, a bakery, 2 Creperies and a very good restaurant serving Pizzas and moules et frites (other dishes are available but these are our favourite). There is also a large take away food area with a large selection.
During the summer there is a visiting butcher van and vegetable stall. On the beach there are various activities and a kids club.
The nearby town of Plomodiern (4kms) has a large enough intermarche for all shopping but for those that want superstores the town of Crozon or Chateaulin have several.
Best place for bike hire, water sports equipment hire is opposite E Leclerc in Crozon - wind surfs, surf boards, canoes, wet suits etc etc etc There is also a riding school nearby. Of course information is in the house or the tourist office on the beach.
The house is spacious and because it is set on three floors with two lounge areas, it never seems crowded. The top two floors have bedrooms and their own bathrooms. There is a lounge on the first floor with english free view tv, video player and selection of videos including many disney ones and some dating back to the 70s!, a dvd player and for the older ones a south facing balcony running the length of the house to enjoy a book, glass of wine or the views!!
There are also plenty of books and the toy selection is down to our kids who spent many days playing with lego, soldiers and cars!
The top floor of the house has two very large bedrooms with views over the beach. There is wooden flooring througout. Both have double beds and one also has two pull down beds for extra guests. The bathroom has wc, sink and bath with shower.
The first floor is accessed via the front door. There is a double bedroom with built in wardrobe, a room with single bunk beds and a twin room with built in wardrobe. There is also the aforementioned lounge, a separate wc and a shower room with sink.
Stairs lead down to a hallway where there are plenty of beach toys, some childrens wet suits, body boards, boules etc. This leads to an the open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge with two french doors leading to the south facing garden.
The garden has a patio and then is laid to lawn. There is outdoor furniture and beds and bbq and plenty of parking although parking is safe on the street which is a cul de sac,
We have always found this the perfect place to take the kids and have family and friends visit. The weather like Cornwall is not always perfect but there is always something to do or explore in the best part of France!!
