About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 6

In the heart of the French Broad River Gorge, Myra's Cottage is tucked in a mountain cove we call Owl Holler and borders Pisgah National Forest. Located near historic Stackhouse and just a mile above a main whitewater access point for the French Broad River, Myra’s Cottage offers serene comfort for retreat, recreation and renewal. Resting in a meadow surrounded by forested ridges and two creeks, the cottage provides privacy in a beautiful mountain setting. The cottage has access to many trails that are located on the surrounding 100 acre property including a mile hike to the knoll for exceptional views of Bluff Mountain.

The modern cottage includes two bedrooms (queen & double), fully equipped kitchen, dining nook, living room with sleeper sofa, bathroom with tub/shower, carport and a large screened porch that overlooks Barney’s Branch. Washer/dryer, dishwasher, ceiling fans, wood stove, window air conditioner, central heat, wireless internet, TV with DVD/VHS player and video library, and all necessary linens ensure convenience and comfort. The Ping Pong table on the porch challenges you to relive your summer camp days or offers an opportunity to learn a new sport.

Myra’s Cottage is located strategically for quick access to all major attractions. 31 miles (40-45 minutes) from Asheville, 10 miles from Marshall, 8 miles from Hot Springs, 4 miles from Appalachian Trail, 1 mile from French Broad River. Hiking, biking, paddling, and nature immersion options galore are at your doorstep.

Myra's offers you the opportunity to "unplug". Cell phones don't work here. You can truly relax from the constant interruption of the usual total media immersion. Of course, you can drive down to the river or up to the highway to get reception if needed. And there is a local land line phone for emergencies.

About Danny Wyatt

The back to the land movement was the genesis of Myra’s Cottage. Ginny and Danny bought Owl Holler from Gilbert and Nita Stackhouse in 1978. Gilbert was the grandson of Amos Stackhouse who moved to Madison County after visiting Warm Springs (now Hot Springs) and falling in love with the mountains. Aiming to live simply, we embraced the mountain culture that honors the land. We learned to fix it, make do, or do without. We harvested Hemlock trees from our land and built our house. We planted trees and birthed a son. We developed organic, sustainable gardens. We continue to garden extensively and enjoy sharing vegetables, berries & flowers with our guests.

Why Danny Wyatt chose Asheville Area

Danny’s mother, Myra, joined us in 1986. She had become a Canadian after a three day romance with Louis Hildebrandt, her second marriage, and they lived near Calgary until his unexpected death. Danny built her a house down the holler where she lived until 2009. Myra was an amazing woman and we honor her memory by sharing her cottage with you.

What makes this cottage unique

Wonderful solitude in the midst of Mother Nature. Secluded yet within 12 minutes of Hot Springs or Marshall. Great one mile hikes to either the French Broad River or the knoll with spectacular views of Bluff Mountain and the Spring Creek watershed.

Guestbook comments from the owner

An amazing private cottage in the middle of the forest with the perfect host who had a fire going when he greeted us at the late hour we arrived. Beautiful forest, creek and waterfalls at our fingertips. Would definitely recommend a weekend in the great outdoors here.

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Myra's Cottage is the greatest VRBO we have ever stayed at. From the moment we arrived until the day we left we felt so comfortable. Never have we had so many extra little things provided for us. The pride that the owner's take in Myra's Cottage is so obvious. It made us, as guests, feel welcome and want to leave everything in perfect condition. We highly recommend staying at Myra's Cottage. Thank you, Danny!!

Great place to relax!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Myra's cottage. So much to do without even leaving the property. Wonderful screened porch, fire pit, stream, hikes from the cottage or a short drive away. Max Patch is about an hour drive and well worth it for the 360 degree views of the mountains. Hot Springs is right up the road. Danny and Ginny have the place set up so you can just relax. So many little touches to make it really feel like a vacation. We hope to come back someday.

Beautiful, relaxing getaway with adventure nearby!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage and grounds are beautifully maintained and exceptionally clean. There was something for everyone here - relaxing screened porch and outside seating to enjoy the sounds and sights of nature (you might see hummingbirds, bunnies and deer like we did), ping-pong table and great movie selection for indoor fun and gorgeous hikes right on the property for a day of adventure (you can hike to a beautiful waterfall and also hike to a gorgeous overlook of the mountains). We enjoyed everything about our stay, especially the extra care the owners took to make our visit special. We also loved the location, which is close to rafting, ziplining and Asheville. This property is exceptional!

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time here. The cottage was very well stocked and Danny was very hospitable and helpful and even gave us a quick review of the surrounding property and area with a map- which we appreciated since we liked exploring around the nearby area. We really loved the screened porch and yard. We'll definitely rent this place again.
