Wonderful location at the mouth of the Klamath River

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed here 6 nights in late September-early October 2017, a really beautiful time of year on the coast. We enjoyed hiking in both Jedediah Redwoods and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Parks and also various points along the coast. We enjoy birding, and were surprised to find that the best birding location of the trip was from the deck of the house! We had California Quail, Varied Thrush, Red Crossbills, Pacific Wren, etc come to the yard, and with our scope we could view sea birds and other wildlife, including river otters, coyote, seals and sea lions below. We even had a Great Horned Owl hooting in the early morning. Having no internet was rather nice.

We had breakfasts and dinners at the house, and there are a few more kitchen items that would

have made that easier: colander for draining pasta or washing produce, corkscrew, and salt and pepper. But that was a small thing-- the house was quite comfortable for our stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Diane We want to thank you for the nice review. I always love the wild life my self It seems to occupy most of my time which is so peaceful to me and when I leave I feel at peace for about a week even though I half to play catch up with life but it makes it worth while clearing my head for how ever long I get to spend at Klamath. A big slice of Heaven is what I call it. I am so sorry about the colander, corkscrew and the salt and pepper I always try to keep salt and pepper on hand They must have used them up I buy the ones in the card board shakers they are just thow away. Colander? Corkscrew? Will half to be replaced. Thank you for letting me know, and please come again. Kindly Steven,

Beautiful views, clean property, centrally located.

  • 5 of 5

PROS: House clean. Beautiful view, can't say that enough. Quiet. Comfortable beds and furniture. Washer/dryer. Centrally located within Redwood National Park. Very helpful owner/manager. We stayed 3 nights and found this place a very easy access to many of the trails and sites. Just up the hill is the Park's notable scenic view - about a mile. Another great place for sunsets. Good cell reception there too (if you need it).

CONS: Our hot water heater ran out of gas on a Sunday night. We had to leave the house to drive to where we had cell reception to make a couple of calls to different people, but when we did reach the right people the problem was solved quickly - 4 hours or so.

Only 2 deck chairs. No basics like salt, pepper. Had about 1 oz dish soap. TVs but no hook ups, if you care about this. We didn't miss it but found it kind of funny to have the TVs with no way to use them other than DVDs - if you bring them along. No cell service. Red wine prohibition (not sure about that one either). The front door sticks horribly. Again, small detractions unless those things are important to you.

Miscellaneous: No real grocery shopping in the area. Come prepared with pretty much everything you need.

Fabulous view, great location

  • 4 of 5

Overall we definitely enjoyed our stay - loved the privacy and the beautiful river/ocean overlook. The house is spacious and quite comfortable. We were disappointed that internet was advertised, but there was no wifi, which we expected to use in booking accommodations for the remainder of our trip. Slower limited cell service had to suffice and consumed extra time. The gas fireplace was inoperable because the gas plumbing was not connected - not a problem for us, but could be an issue for colder weather guests. The house was very clean, which was a definite plus.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in the house and had a great time. The house is well appointed, clean and in a beautiful location. We spent time hiking in the nearby parks, beaches and did some fishing. My family and I had a great time.

A Welcome Home Away

  • 5 of 5

The house is situated high above the intersection of Klamath River and Pacific Ocean, out of sight of town and neighbors, convenient to redwood forest and coastal hiking trails, peaceful and quiet. There is a long and wide deck overlooking the water, attached to a very attractive, spacious, interior environment. There were two of us, but I believe that six persons could occupy it without feeling cramped and confined. The house was clean and in excellent order upon our initial entry. It is well lighted, ventilated, and furnished. Everything works as it should. It was for us a distinct pleasure after full days of hiking to come "home" to such a welcoming place. I do have two minor suggestions. There are three sofas in the spacious and comfortable living room, where the inclusion of a coffee table or two would be a very useful amenity; and whoever is doing the cooking might welcome a greater variety of kitchen utensils. These are minor points, however, that in no way diminish my enthusiastic and unqualified recommendation of the house and its location.

About Steven Avalos

Parents purchased the property as a summer vacation home back in the day. As a family that enjoyed fishing and the outdoors it created memories that produced a connection with the area and now wanting to share this place with those couples and families in hopes to create those benefits that we will never forget.

In 2004 we built a new home on the 1 acre property and perfected the land and access to the property. The serenity that has been instilled in us from this property in its location is in our opinion, on the endangered species list in today's busy world.

Steven Avalos purchased this house in 1967

Why Steven Avalos chose Klamath

Unique views, along with privacy and modern home with today's world's amenities.

What makes this house unique

The Klamath River is considered the richest River in California, it has a spring run, summer run and fall run of salmon, steelhead and Sturgeon to name a few. The Redwood national Park is the home of the famous sequoia redwoods which is the North Coast ancient rain forest. The Pacific Ocean at one time was the only source of access to this area and a wandering mind can only imagine what that was like.
