About Terri Scallon and Dwane Atkinson
Hi, I'm Terri and I have lived here for 20 years. There is nowhere else I would want to be! When I met the man of my dreams 14 years ago we began to create our vision of a small farm property. We have 3 large horses, 2 miniature horses, a goat, 5 chickens, 2 dogs and one cat. The deer and bear are nearby and we respect each other's space :) I am an Equine Facilitated Therapist and a family therapist. My husband is a finish carpenter so he has added some nice touches to the cabin. We are so blessed to live here on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada - it's definitely a little piece of paradise! The ocean is 2 km down the road and winter sports like snow-shoeing and cross country skiing are just 30 minutes up the mountain behind us. We both love the forest so we have kept lots of trees on our properties which offers privacy, quiet and wildlife. We are both animal lovers (guess that's obvious lol!) who enjoy the simple pleasures of life, a good home-cooked meal (easy for me to say since Dwane does all the cooking), walking the dogs or going for a trail ride, puttering around outside until it gets dark. If you are looking for a break from city life you'll love our little neck of the woods :)
Terri Scallon and Dwane Atkinson purchased this Cabin in 1998
Why Terri Scallon and Dwane Atkinson chose Roberts Creek
Together Dwane and I have homesteaded this property. No one lived on it before and it was treed and covered in blackberry bushes. Any trees that were cut on the property were milled on site and the wood was used to build our house (so the trees never left the property which makes us happy!) We wanted to share our little piece of paradise so we acquired a log cabin for others to come stay in. The cabin was placed so that it has its own acre of privacy, yet it adjoins the remaining 3.5 acres. It's a great place to rest and relax, go out and have fun, then come home and rest and relax again. We mean for the cabin to be your home while you are here. While It is private, should you need anything we can attend to it right away. If you would like to do an Equine Therapy session while you are here let me know and we can set that up although there is an additional cost for that. It's a great way to learn about communication, trust, boundaries, leadership ability all while having fun in the great outdoors! We can also take you out on a private nice, slow, easy trail ride at an additional reasonable cost. There's so much to do here on the Sunshine Coast, especially if you want to get away from the city and enjoy a much slower pace in the beauty of nature.
What makes this Cabin unique
We have kept our prices on the lower side to encourage families with children to come and enjoy this awesome vacation spot. So much to do around here! Listening Horse Ranch Retreat is also a great place for a private couple's weekend or for a quiet personal retreat. And if you want to visit the farm animals you are welcome to for a small donation. You can also book horse assisted therapy session or time with the horses and we will share our rates with you if you're interested. We have 2 friendly dogs and your dog is most welcome here :) If you would enjoy an artsy, outdoorsy kinda place with lots of beaches and trails and cultural events this is the place to be!

A superb stay
Terri and Dwane's cabin is picture perfect. Everything you need and nothing you don't though you could probably cook a Thanksgiving dinner the kitchen is that well equipped. The setting is so picturesque being nestled in the trees and it's far enough off the highway to truly feel like you're away from it all. Waking up in this lovely cabin and unwinding on the deck after a day of outdoorsing was a soul-cleansing experience. While other guests' comments about the water was of no concern to us, Terri still provided us with plenty of clear, non-odorous water. She also gave us a dozen freshly-laid eggs which we enjoyed for breakfast every day. Call us weird but we actually enjoyed the slight sulphur smell to the running water as it made the washing and bathing experience that much more "earthy".
The location is superb and is a great launch pad to see and do all the wonderful things on the Sunshine Coast. For us this included Roberts Creek Pier and it's adjacent beach, a horse trail ride with nearby Farm Ventures (great petting zoo for the kids!), kayaking in Sechelt Inlet (Halfmoon Kayaks were awesome), Porpoise Bay's beach and waterfront trail, mountain biking in Sprockids Bike Park and enjoying local eateries - thumbs up to Gumboots and Wobbly Canoe.
Probably the highlight for our young son was Terri introducing her horses to him. He was raving about it all weekend and it was a joy to see him take such an interest in these beautiful animals. Overall, we had an amazing trip and we highly recommend Terri's cabin to anyone looking for a great time on the Sunshine Coast.
Thank you so much for the glowing review. This is exactly the kind of experience we hope our guests have here at our cabin and on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. We absolutely loved having you and hope you come again!! And a special thank you for the awesome drawing of Stryder!!
We stayed at this lovely cabin in the woods at Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast for five nights. Had a wonderful family time. Everything we needed was in the cabin! Never had to ask our hosts for anything else. The cabin is very pleasantly appointed with all the amenities. Awesome large deck, comfy deck chairs - a great spot to settle in with a good book or enjoy a peaceful evening after a day of exploring the beautiful area around there. There is a barbecue on the deck which we enjoyed. 'Bambi' even came to visit one morning while we were having our coffee. I would definitely recommend this cabin as a holiday destination.
The cabin was lovely and the location very relaxing and central to many summer activities. Would love to visit again.
So guiet and clean. Would stay here again.
Great for children, close to all shopping needs. Very peaceful setting.
Quaint with all amenities
This is a great cabin! My husband and I will definitely be back without the kids next time! Romantic, quiet, but lots of trees, dirt, and gravel to play in for the kiddos. Our 3 toddlers loved it.
The cabin is well stocked with condiments, eggs, shampoo, towels, extra bedding, toys, movies, dishes, laundry soap and more.
The hosts are kind and friendly. We even got to go up and view the animals on their property.
Things to note:
Well water. High in iron! Does smell, but we showered/bathed in it no problem. The hosts provided more than enough drinking water for us.
No curtains or blinds in the main room. Made for a bright and impossible bedtime for our kids, but it wouldn’t have mattered because there are skylights haha!
Bedroom has French doors. My ONLY suggestion would be that they hang drapes over them. In the morning, the sunrise shines right through onto half of the bed. (We hung a blanket up the next couple nights)
No complaints! Perfect property for a quick getaway from the mainland and so reasonably priced.
We have ordered blinds for the French doors in response to your suggestion and will do the same for the living room. Not sure how the sun got in the French doors in the morning though since it faces south. We have already put blackout curtains on the east and southeast windows. Didn’t think the south facing French doors would be a sun problem. Well, soon to be fixed! And yes we are very up front about being on a well that sometimes has a sulphurous smell. Can come with life in a cabin in the woods! Glad you enjoyed the fresh aquifer water we provid for drinking. It’s better than any city water, isn’t it? And the horses and goat enjoyed spending time with you too 😊
A lovely, cozy cabin in the woods with all the comforts and conveniences of home as well as close to amenities and attractions. Wonderful hosts. Highly recommend!
There are a variety of music festivals throughout the summer and the very popular Writer's Festival in August. Stroll along the Davis Bay Beach seaside walk at sunset. Hike/bike the trails right off the property. Come pet our horses. Little secret beaches you can go to that only the locals know about. Lots of great restaurants, some with live music. 2 cinemas. 1 Playhouse. Local pools with hot tubs. Artist's "Purple Flag" tour. T'sain-ko Museum of the Sechelt Nation. Scenic drive up to Egmont to the Skookumchuk rapids and stop at the Iris Griffith Wetlands educational centre.Take a boat tour to Desolation Sound. Hike through Smuggler Cove Marine Park. Go kayaking. Visit the Persephone Brewing Company, the producer of our very own local beer! Visit Chapman Creek hatchery just 3 km. away. Hike (or ski in winter) Dakota Ridge or the Tetrahedron. Or just laze on the cabin deck and read book or soak in the Jacuzzi tub :)
Additional pricing information
No extra charge for children under the age of 18. The additional per person charge only applies to adults. The pet fee is a one-time fee and is not a daily charge. Electrical RV hook up available for $20 per night. Should we experience severe water restrictions as we did in August of 2015 and in August 2017 we will have to ask that you use the shower only (unfortunately not make use of the double tub) and minimize your use of water as we are on a well. The water is safe as it goes through a UV filter that kills all bacteria.
