This reservation was from another reservation site, but wanted to post here as well, as I would have liked a heads-up myself. Last time we stayed in this unit we had ten dollars held back from our deposit due to a picture frame allegedly receiving water damage. (plus @$37 for a "damaged" hair dryer that was damaged before our arrival. I chose not to make a stink about it, but lesson learned to document all abnormalities.) This visit, the very same frame was still there, "damaged" and all, yet owner still took out from the deposit, claiming she "was giving me a good deal by only taking ten dollars". It's a discount store frame, but it's the principal, money no matter. Then THIS stay, I forgot to clean two coffee cups, and she charged me the entire "$25 dish fee", due to my own stress and hurriedness out the door. I can see five bucks for a minute worth of work, but to charge a repeat customer $25 for cleaning two coffee cups? No sugar or cream even. Never experienced such stinginess before. Nice and cute place, served our purposes, but I refuse to support someone that operates the business as such and will not be returning.

Owner's Response: Micah had been here before (when they warped the picture frame AND also broke the hair dryer) and knew the rules re: dishes. It is clearly stated in our booklet in each unit AND there is a sign on the countertop warning that housekeeping does not do guests dishes, so if you do not want to do your dishes and want someone to do them for you it is a $25 flat fee. We do not "pro-rate" the service based on how many dishes there are. Micah should have also noticed the picture frame was NOT in the same condition, as the back of it was buckled & warped AND there was a new hair dryer installed which we had to special order. That is why he was charged for them the previous time. If Micah had a problem paying for damage he caused or special services he obviously expected on the dishes, why would he return?

Cute, small place.

The bungalow was a cute little place to stay. Although we only stayed one night, instead of two. The bed was super comfortable, but I slept on the pull out couch and had to sleep on the cushions. The shower wouldn't stay hot for longer than 5 minutes and we found out after we were packed and had booked another hotel that the hot water had to be turned on. The parking was absolutely horrible. There was no place to park and I'm pretty sure I was parked in places I wasn't supposed to be parked in both times. Overall, it wasn't that bad of a place.

Owner's Response: The bedding for the sofa bed is right there in the cabinet. Sorry she didn't see it! There are 4 parking spaces in front of my home. It is an unmetered, unrestricted residential street about a block long w/ FREE parking on both sides (although I ask my guests to try to stay on my side of the st. in respect for my neighbors) so she must have meant there was no parking directly in front of my home? Yes, the tankless H20 htr. did need a vinegar wash by the plumber due to calcium build-up but was good as new in no time!

Not for extended stay.

Our "self check-in" failed. The owner forgot to set the "code" for us. Lucky for us we checked in before 6:00 p.m.! The unit was as pictured and very clean. Quite cute and adequate for a short (couple of days) stay. The bed was ok for us but we had to borrow a stool to get in and out. There is NO change of sheets. If you want clean sheets, you have to pay to have them washed at the owner's laundry area. We have never stayed anywhere that did not offer a change of linen. Plenty of towels, though. The unit is damp and musty but the electric space heater in the morning seems to help with that. Kitchen facilities are adequate for breakfast. An email was received 10 days prior to arrival that gave "self check-in" instructions and the strict Visitor policy. We don't remember seeing anything about this on the property site. Had we known about her Visitor policy, we would NOT have booked. We were in town visiting family for two weeks and at times, have a family member with us when getting something from the unit, etc. Visitors must be approved 24 hrs in advance and there is a $10.00 fee for each during that 24 hrs. We explained that we were visiting with family but that was not negotiable. We also would not recommend this property for anyone with any type mobility problem. My husband has some arthritis in his legs and found the steep, narrow, stairs to get to the unit, quite an obstacle. He ended up walking on the driveway to go up.

We did have a problem with the teenage son of another guest. We were just lazing around one morning, being there later than usual. He came right up to the door and peeked into the windows! Imagine his surprise to see me sitting at the table. Imagine mine! I asked him what he was doing and he just said "sorry" and left. I reported to Cheri.

We felt like we were being watched at all times. Notices of video and audio security are posted. That's ok if used properly, but the other things just made for an uncomfortable stay. There is a fee for everything....toilet tissue, trash bags, etc. We recommend you have your own. We would not stay here again because of the strict visitor policy and the access to the unit. We would not recommend for any extended stay.

Owner's Response: You can only have the # of guests you CLAIM & PAY FOR in you booking, thus the "NO VISITORS" rule. If you want "visitors" you must report them in your initial booking, or get permission and pay the fee in advance. Otherwise, with 4 guest houses, my home would be filled w/ strangers! This guest claimed & paid for only 2 guests. WE ARE NOT A HOTEL so there is no onsite daily maid to clean your unit, provide new sheets or replenish the supplies we provide you upon check-in. As a convenience, we have an onsite coin laundry, and both complimentary & purchase items in the onsite ofc. We provide exterior CCTV surveillance and by law must post a sign. We have no control over other guests actions, however, I did speak with the mother re: her son having peeked through the door, as he is just a kid and thought the unit was vacant. As a side note, all units have blinds on the front door for privacy. If you have problems with mobility, READ THE LISTING, LOOK AT THE PHOTOS or ASK BEFORE YOU BOOK If you want daily maid service, READ THE LISTING or ASK BEFORE YOU BOOK. If you DON'T want security, READ THE LISTING or ASK BEFORE YOU BOOK. It is unfair to blame a host & leave a negative review due to your own failure to READ or ASK QUESTIONS prior to booking if you have certain issues or requirements in your stay.

the property was very nice and clean...the pool was very nice but a bit cold to go into. the propert

I love the property it was very nice and clean...location was not hard to find with the direction they gave. The bungalow could use some new covers and sheets on the bed and the bed was very high and too soft. It was my first time in a place like this and it had everything you need, but since it's not a hotel u can't forget to bring all you own toliet tres with you. And if you have a lot of luggage with you it will be hard to bring to the room since it an up hill location. The property owner was very nice and friendly. Overall a good experience for the first time.

Not impressed...would not recommend

The unit looks like the pictures, but the pictures do not show the terrible bed mattress which includes a 4-6 " piece of foam on top on a worn out mattress. The bed was difficult to get in and out as well as awful to sleep on.... The pictures also do not show that all the cushions and furniture are garage sale quality and are faded and worn out. The pictures do not show the scum that floats on the hot tub surface. The pictures do not show that the owner has a small dog that barks at you every time you leave your unit. You feel like you are in a fish bowl being watched every time you do anything, not just by the dog, but also by the owner who sits in the kitchen and office window and watches everything.

The owner is not interested in customer service, but more makes you feel like you a bother that she has to put up with to get the money.

I had the flu when I was there and asked for a clean set of sheets for the bed. I was told you can either pay for the maid service to change the sheets or pay to wash them yourself in her $5 a load coin machines. I said I would just like a set of sheets and I'll change them and was told we don't do that here. The towels in the unit are about the same quality as the rags in my home. They are worn out, just like most of the items at the property.

Then there is the space heater that is the only source of heat in the unit. And, then there is the fact that there's really no way to cook unless you want to use the warming tray. There is a grill, but all the utensils are dusty and you'd have to clean everything in order to use them. And, that would have to happen in your single small bathroom sink.

Finally, there is the musty, mold smell. The building is cement block and damp. Both of us had a headache and cough from the air quality. We still are coughing and we left several days ago.

It was a terrible experience. I wish I had been at the holiday inn. Then I would have been able to get clean sheets, decent towels, would not have had to listen to her dog bark anytime I went outside or for that fact anytime anyone on the property went outside. I would have had coffee each morning instead of having to go to the 7 Eleven for a cup. I would not have had a space heater or musty smell for which I am now still not breathing well.

Glad to be gone. Would not recommend this unit to an enemy.

Owner's Response: Read review/rest assured this is the guest NO HOST wants! Nit picker doesn't read listing/follow rules. Complains about everything/anything. FOAM: on top of mattress is a costly memory foam topper. Guests say best sleep they ever had. DECOR: Guest has no clue on interior decorating/ "shabby chic" style/pastel colors. Should have booked our Hlwd. Loft w/ bold colors/red sofa. SPA: Pool man there every Fri. Only scum in spa's from dirty guest who was in it. DOG: Pet-friendly resort. Animal haters should stay in a "no pets" environment. FISHBOWL: I live in the main house where I eat in my kitchen/work in my ofc. Windows overlook the pool area (NOT where Bungalow is located.) If seeking isolation/seclusion, why book one of 4 GUEST houses on mini-estate? SHEETS: Info/rules booklet clearly states NO daily maid service! We're NOT a hotel! Instead of going to my ofc. during business hrs. they came to my kitchen door (twice) BEFORE ofc. hrs. 1st to demand that housekeeping (who is not on premises) change her sheets because she had gotten sick on them from the flu! But she expected housekeeper to work for free. I reminded her of our coin laundry. She didn't want to pay for that either & asked for more sheets. I said we don't provide extra sheets. HEATER: Space htr. was "only source of heat" for 400 SF studio guest house. (again, read the listing desc!.) She thought htr was a fan until I told her! Hlwd. Loft & Spanish Hacienda have central htg. COOKING: Only means of cooking, warming tray. Failed to mention: double hot plate, BBQ & fire pit right outside the door. Failed to read listing desc. only has a kitchenette not full kitchen! AIR QUALITY: Headache/cough from "air quality" yet admitted she had the flu (Maybe headache, cough,vomiting on our sheets, trouble sleeping, getting in/out of bed, chills, problem eating, noise due to her FLU????) HOLIDAY INN: Rather have stayed at Holiday Inn. We are LESS THAN 1/3 THE PRICE W/ MORE AMENITIES than the nearest Holiday Inn on the main drag business st.) HOST: Unwarranted personal attacks after time spent w/ her email quest's! Also greeted them upon arrival! See one email example below: I am originally from Mn. The Twin Cities! Yes, there is free unrestricted, unmetered residential street parking right in front of the property. I am usually in my onsite ofc. so you are welcome to come there with any questions you may have and I will be happy to help you! I'm sure you will just love it here and feel right at home.

Quaint and quiet

As a VRBO owner/landlord, myself, this is the first time I have been a renter. It was interesting to be on the other side of things. I actually, initially, found the contact confusing. I could not tell if I was getting an automated response from VRBO, or was I getting something directly from the owner. The check-in paperwork/instructions were a little legalistic, but once I actually checked in they were easy to follow. I never saw another human being until we were leaving as we checked out. On the one hand, that made it private and quiet, on the other hand I wasn't sure there was anyone around should we need something. And, the instructions made it clear that I was not to make contact with anyone unless there was an emergency.

The unit was clean, but very cold with only a small space heater. The queen bed was a little too soft for us, with a memory foam topper that was just a bit to thick. The biggest problem, for me, was the odor. It smelled moldy or mildewy, and it was strong from the moment I walked in. It made me a little nervous as to what we were breathing while sleeping.

The price was extremely reasonable, which, along with location, was why we picked it. However, I am not sure we will rent again because of the moldy smell.

Owner's Response: I don'y know how she could miss the onsite ofc. as it is right behind the spa. It is open daily 10 AM-6 PM. The review is a little misleading as the instructions ask that guests not contact host AFTER business hours. It is also noted in the informational booklet found in each unit. When guests do not turn on the bathroom fan when they shower or open the bathroom or living room windows after they shower, naturally the unit WILL get that damp smell.That's just common sense!
