About the property

Thirteen Point Five is a mother-in-law suite on the ground floor of our home. It is located just a block away from the "sound-to-sea sidewalk" in the Old Nags Head Cove Subdivision at the 13.5 milepost. It is close to great restaurants, gorgeous beaches and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Jockey's Ridge is less than a mile away. This is an ideal place for two adults who are looking for a quiet place to relax after spending the day on the Outer Banks. There is a queen bed and a futon for a third person if necessary. If you are looking for a place to be get rowdy and/or entertain children this isn't the place for you. We do not accept bookings from guests who are bringing pets and/or teenagers. The owners live upstairs and wake up early every morning to fish, go to work, or both...as do a majority of the neighbors. We have beach chairs and a place to clean your catch if you choose to fish while you are here. Thirteen Point Five is a half mile from the beach. Most of our guests choose to drive to the beach instead of walking across the by-pass and there is plenty of public beach access with parking close by.

About Ashley Bahen

Greg is originally from Clover, South Carolina and moved to the Outer Banks over 20 years ago to work in the fishing industry. He worked several years on charter boats out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center as a mate and a captain. He currently works full-time as a Captain for the North Carolina Ferry System. Ashley is from Richmond, Virginia and moved to the Outer Banks 16 years ago. She worked as a high school science teacher for 15 years and is now employed with Dare County. When the couple is not at work they are usually fishing and hanging out with friends and neighbors. A picture of the couple hangs above the bar in Sam and Omie's Restaurant in Nags Head - where they met 17 years ago.

Why Ashley Bahen chose Nags Head

We feel blessed everyday to live and work in such a beautiful place. We are living our dream and look forward to sharing it with folks who are looking for a little vacation.

What makes this apartment unique

Nags Head is truly the heart of the Outer Banks. It is close to all of the major tourist attractions - yet it still has that small-town feel.

Perfect Size & Great Price!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were extremely pleased with the property. IT was perfect for us. It was simple, comfortable, easy access and within walking distance of the sound and the ocean. We did not mind the house rules because it was just my wife and I and we just wanted rest, peace and some time alone. There is no stove, so no real cooking could be done but there was a microwave and a large toaster which was perfect to re-heat our pizza from the night before. The price was very nice and for us we got exactly what we paid for and a little more. We would definitely like to come back and stay there again. The owner was gracious and easily communicated with. Even though it was overcast and a little rainy the weekend we stayed there we gave it five stars. I just wish we had been able to stay a little longer.

Nice and Accessible

  • 4 of 5

This home is very convenient to most anywhere you want to travel on the Outer Banks, either walking or by car. The apartment was very clean and served our purposes quite well. The owners are very quick to respond to questions and available if needed. While the weather wasn't to pleasant while we were there, we were still able to find things to do.

Owner's Response: Hi Margie. Greg and I felt real bad that your vacation was affected by Hurricane Irma. And when ya'll made the decision to come to OBX we got the remnants of Hurricane Jose worse than we thought we would. If ya'll ever want to come back to OBX in the spring or fall we would definitely work with ya'll on our rates. Thank you for leaving us such a nice review despite the awful weather. Ya'll were wonderful guests and I hope your next vacation is full of sunshine :) -Ashley

Just so-so

  • 2 of 5

When we drove up, our first impression wasn't a good one. The yard was cluttered and messy.

Once inside, we hoped it would be comfortable and clean. The shower, tub and toilet were, but there were cobwebs in several places and the floor didn't appear to have been thoroughly cleaned in quite some time (sand and other bits of trash under and around furnishings. I could feel the sand in the rug with my bare feet.

Have fun finding the kitchen light switch.

The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. I ended up sleeping on the futon and my husband on the couch.

Be prepared to hear the homeowner walking around upstairs. It sounded as though she was stomping, but maybe she just walks heavily. We heard the washer and dryer running as well. So if you are looking for a peaceful or quiet get-away, this isn't the place for you.

On the positive side, the place had cable and internet.

Owner's Response: Hi Doni. I regret that our studio apartment did not meet your expectations. We make every effort to offer an affordable and clean place for our guests to stay while spending time enjoying the Outer Banks. As stated in our description, we live upstairs. Sometimes this requires us to walk on our floors and wash our clothes (I only stomp when the Dallas Cowboys lose and only do laundry during the day or early evening). Nonetheless, I regret that my noise, uncomfortable bed, condition of our yard (just after a tropical storm), and placement of our kitchen light switch were problematic to you during you two-night stay. Clothing items were left behind after your stay (Bon Jovi T-shirt, underwear, tank top); I mailed them to your home free of charge. I hope they found you and found you well. Take Care, -Ashley

Great place to stay! Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I visited the OBX for our first time and absolutely loved it. This cozy rental worked out perfectly for us and was just a short drive to the beach across the street and many other places to eat. Everything was prepped for us upon our arrival, and smooth sailing from there on out. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet and affordable place to stay.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

This space was great for 2 people to get away! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time! We never got to meet Ashley but she was very helpful with everything. The only negative thing we could think of was that there was not enough places to hang wet towels/bathing suits, which was not a big deal :)
