About Alan and Machelle Lampela

We are born and raised in Two Harbors. We owned Al's Bait & Tackle in Two Harbors from 1994 to 2007. Our experience from that business in addition to our travels & staying in vacation rentals helps us to know the things that we appreciated in a vacation home. Alan will be happy to share info on local fishing areas and what you might need to catch fish right off the breakwater (less than 1 mile away). We are grandparents so our home has a great play area in the upstairs family room. Our backyard has swings & sandbox & a play fort. We have a nice fire pit (free wood included) & patio with a gas grill with tables & chairs. We live on the same property so we can help with questions on where to eat, what to see & when & address your needs in a timely manner.

We have chosen the name Diamond Willow Vacation Home as Alan spends much of his recreational time finding and sitting around the fire pit and peeling diamond willow to make lamps and furniture. Some of which you will see in our home when you stay.

When you are here Alan will be happy to show you how to peel a walking stick if you are interested.

Alan and Machelle Lampela purchased this house in 2002

Why Alan and Machelle Lampela chose Minnesota

We originally purchased this home so that we could expand our bait business building. The home has been rented off and on during the last 12 yrs. We have lived in the home for the last 7 years. We decided that it would be fun to meet new people that stay at our vacation home. You will find a nice big back yard and often see deer in our backyard.

What makes this house unique

We love the home because it is truly a family home. The handicap accessibility is a nice feature & once you are in the home there are 36" doorways to all the main floor rooms & a full handicapped bathroom is great. The upstairs family room (Grandma's Attic) has a tables & chairs for a girls crafting weekend or coloring or doing a jigsaw puzzle. We also can help you set up a charter fishing on Lake Superior. Don't want to cook when you are here but want to have a home cooked meal. We will cook you a meal of your choosing cooked right in the kitchen at an additionally cost.

We offer to make a meal of your choosing prepared in your kitchen. Ask about menus and cost. Need some fishing tips. We owned a bait shop and Alan can tell you where and how to fish. Don't know how to clean the fish you caught. Alan can either show you how or do it for you. This would made a great place for scrap book and crafting weekend. Let us know how much space you will need and we can set it up in the family with tables. We use all natural cleaning products in the house and in washing of bedding and towels. The house is cleaned with a good hypo allergic vacuum. We do not use candles or plug in freshners.

Fun Birthday Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My Family and I have been to the north shore a million times. Though the home is not on the water, that did not defer the fun. We enjoyed two harbors and the location of the home as it is central and easy to find. The place is very clean, warm, and has been decorated with cute little touches that make it feel very "home" like. I would recommend others to stay here and would come back to stay here again. Cheers!

A nice towny spot where you can be home away from home.

  • 4 of 5

I was very comfortable and it didn't turn out to be a big deal that the owners lived next store. There were stores conveniently located in the area and I could launch my expeditions easily. I had a great time, great value.

Great North Shore Stay

  • 5 of 5

Clean home with everything you would need for a nice stay. Good location in Two Harbors where you can walk to the cute shops and restaurants in the area. Also, great distance to the various state parks and trails. Not exactly a private retreat, if that is what you're looking for, as the road out front is quite busy, train tracks out back have regular use and the owners live next to the property. Everything is a safe distance from the home for kids/pets but does provide regular background noise, nothing crazy that would affect sleep or anything. Machelle was very friendly and makes you feel at home upon arrival. Also, gives you space during your stay as we did not see them the whole time, but if we needed anything knew they were only a text message away. Thanks for a nice stay!

Inviting and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The house was inviting and had all of the comforts of home. We were a little concerned about the traffic from the nearby highway but it didn't end up bothering us. The location was convenient for visiting family in town. We will let other family members know about the house for when they plan to visit the area.

This is a very nice and comfortable place to stay with excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

Our entire family enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable and homey and gave us more than enough room for two teenagers, three college age children, and my wife and I. I especially enjoyed the large walk in shower.

The accommodations provided great access to the town of Two Harbors, within easy walking distance of the downtown area. Everything was just as Machelle said it would be and it was easy to find with great information about the area and things of interest to visit.

We've already talked about making a return trip up north and will definitely look to book this place again. Thank so much Machelle and Alan.

Our vacation home is located in the city of Two Harbors MN. We are walking distance from great restaurants, grocery store and gift shopping. We are less than a mile from Burlington Bay and Agate Bay and the Breakwater. The home is across the street from the snowmobile corridor from Two Harbors to the North Shore Trail. Spend the day snowmobiling and come back to relax at home or walk to a great restaurant(s) or bar(s). There is plenty of off street parking for your snowmobile(s) and trailer(s). We use to own a bait shop so we can help with where to fish in the area and as a service can clean your fish. We also can help provide you with info on Lake Superior charter fishing. There is parking for your boat and trailer should you want to bring your own boat.
