|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Rented separately our houses are perfect for small groups (~3 adults or 2 aduts and 2-3 children). Rented together they are great for larger groups or two families traveling together.
Our unique homes are divided into three floors. On the first floor you'll find the kitchen and dining area with everything you'll need to prepare and enjoy your own meals. The first floor also has the shower/bath and a separate toilet. The dining room table and chars all fold and can be stored on the wall should you need some extra space.
The second floor is completely Japanese-style tatami flooring. It has one bedroom with Japanese futon bedding and a small area on the landing with a comfortable chair for reading and relaxing.
The third floor is our Western-style living room/ bedroom with a twin bed and a sofa that can be converted into another bed. The table in front of the home theater PC swings out to be used as a desk. Grab the wireless keyboard/trackball and lounge on the sofas while enjoying free Netflix access!
We're an international couple living the dream in Kyoto! I'm From the US and my wife is from China and until recently we were both teachers here in Japan. Now we're working to open a cafe and bar near Kyoto station. We have 2 dogs , Chubby a miniature dachshund and Itoko-chan a shiba inu. We love traveling and all kinds of food and would be happy to introduce you to some of our favorite places here in town and share a meal.
Jesse Schlaud purchased this house in 2014
We recently spent 5 nights at Jesse's house in Kyoto. From booking to check out - Jesse was very responsive to all questions and remained flexible while our arrival plans changed. He has a great café Shiba Raku, where we met to go over the check in process. We enjoyed complimentary drinks while he showed us highlights of the city and gave us tips and hints on how to get around Kyoto. He brought us to the house to make sure we had enough linens/towels for all 5 of us. The house itself is in a great location, less than a 5 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 24 hour grocery store, pizza place and laundry mat. It was a bonus to learn that Jesse had recently purchased a washing machine for the house. The house has everything you need! My sons loved the 3rd floor bedroom where they could relax and enjoy Netflix after a long day of walking. My husband and I enjoyed the second story Japanese style bedroom along with the nice relaxing reading area. We would love to return to Kyoto and would definitely stay in Jesse's apartment again!
Jesses's apartment was as described with generous amenity's supplied. Very clean and cheerful. Close to shops and laundry (ps take your own washing powder) and both Bus and Train transport. We also had some meals locally with many places to choose from. Pizza on the corner worth a try:) I would certainly recommend.
I stayed in Jesse's home for nine days during November 2016 and it was a lovely visit, all around. Jesse was very clear with communications leading up to my stay and it was very easy to check in at his cafe located near Kyoto Station. I really appreciated the personal interaction, as it felt very welcoming and made my transition into vacation mode very smooth. The home itself was well situated, very close to three different rail stations and with bus stops just a couple of blocks away - a great location for exploring all of what Kyoto has to offer. The home is very big, by Japanese standards, and comfortable. Everything was clean and clearly labeled, and I would definitely stay here again if I come back to Kyoto!
This house is in a terrific location. It is near buses, subway, wonderful covered market, 24 hour Gourmet City, and pleasant and delicious restaurants. The host is very helpful and available. If you are not moderately fit and coordinated, you will find the stairs a challenge as they are very traditional - meaning steep and unavoidable - as the three rooms are located right above each other. But if you enjoy traditional Japanese living at a very reasonable price, this place is for you!
This property was perfect for us, it gave our teenage traveler her own spot. Great central location near multiple trains. Inexpensive cab rides when we just couldn't walk back from a temple to a train anymore. It was an easy spot for cabbies to locate. (We gave our teen a Dai's pizza flyer just in case we ever got separated.) The hosts couldn't be nicer, the location was convenient to grocery, laundry, restaurants, sights, shopping. The air conditioning worked great, and there was ample hot water. We didn't need anything but I am sure if we had it would have been addressed right away. The hosts English fluency also made this a very easy place for us to stay.
All levels of the three story house had AC, prefect for those hot days. The only issue was the TV was located on the third floor and the second bedroom had Japanese style bedding on the floor.
All in all was a great house and highly recommend staying here, thanks again Jesse for you hospitality and hope to see you again in the near future.
I love our neighborhood! It's super convenient with tons of delicious local restaurants, a 24/7 super market, and unique cultural attractions such as MIbu Temple and Kyoto city's largest onsen (public bath). Also, the nearby laundromat offers a convenient way to clean and dry your clothes since residential dryers are almost unheard of in Japan.
Just a few minutes walk East on Shijo Dori will take you to Kyoto's downtown shopping district. Between Karasuma Dori in the West and the river in the East this area is packed with high-end stores, souvenir shops, bars, restaurants, and the city's largest and oldest department stores.
Head North on Senbon Dori and you'll hit the Sanjo Shotengai covered shopping arcade. Here you'll find dozens of excellent cafes, restaurants, and shops as yet undiscovered by the tourist hordes. The bento at Meat Shop Hiro, Kyoto's most famous butcher shop, on the western end of the arcade is a must.
A 20 minute walk South on Senbon Dori will take you to the Kyoto fish market where you can get excellent sushi at decent prices. Also in the same area is Umekoji Park, a massive park with some truly beautiful gardens.
The Mibudera-michi bus stop is a few hundred meters from the house. From there you can access all of the city's most famous tourist spots.
Nearby Omiya station services two train lines. The Hankyu Kyoto line offers easy access to downtown and transfer to the subway system. It's also the quickest and cheapest way to get to Osaka from Kyoto. Also at Omiya the Kyofuku Arashiyama Line is the easiest way to get to Kyoto's beautiful and historic Arashiyama district. Arashiyama's attractions include stunning bamboo forests, many temples and shrines, and Monkey Mountain if you want to interact with real, wild (slightly terrifying!) Japanese monkeys.
JR Tanbaguchi Station is a 10 minute walk from the house, convenient for rail pass holders who prefer to travel by JR lines.
