About the property

At entrance to Greenport Village & a few blocks from beautiful Peconic Bay Beach

The Captain’s Cottage is located in the seaport Village of Greenport on the North Fork of Long Island. George Graber was a Steamship Captain and the son of a renowned Schooner Smack Captain William Anderson Graber. He grew up one street over on Fifth Street, and when he married his wife Theresa Locker he moved in with her family to this cottage. More recently it was the home to the National SCRABBLE Association.

Just a few minutes’ walk from the restored 1880s home are the Shelter Island Ferry, the Hampton Jitney and the Long Island Railroad train station. When you arrive at that beautiful spot you won’t believe you are only 100 miles from midtown Manhattan.

Within a few blocks of this cozy home you can be sunbathing at the Fourth Street beach, fishing off the Fifth Street dock, playing with your children at the beach park or walking to town to sample one of the fine restaurants Greenport boasts. Why not try a tasting at the local Greenport Harbor Brewery or learn how to shuck your own oysters at the dockside Little Creek Oyster? A comprehensive sampling of local menus will be provided at the cottage.

The 2-story cottage is at the corner of the Main Road and Fourth Streets sleeps 6 and features three bedrooms: Queen, full and a room with two twin beds. There are 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, living room and a small den-home office or game room. There is ample on-site parking and a screened porch for outdoor dining. This is a no-smoking property. We welcome families. Sorry no pets.

Amazing home just steps from town!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with 5 family members and we had a wonderful time walking through town, riding the Carousel and eating seafood at Claudio's.

This house is very comfortable, clean and had many charming amenities like board games and books for the entire family. The owner Jane is very sweet and accommodating.

I highly recommend staying here if you ever travel to Greenport, NY!

Beautiful Greenport Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at the Captain's Cottage! Jane was a welcoming host, who quickly and graciously responded to our inquiries and needs. The home is located right at the edge of downtown - just steps from all of the shops, restaurants, train, ferry, carousel, and the 5th street beach. It was wonderful to walk everywhere with our two young children. Jane provided many amenities for us and our children making the house really feel like home! The pack-and-play, beach toys, bath toys, games, and puzzles were all perfect. I particularly enjoyed the chocolates upon arrival! The kitchen is well-equipped and it was so easy to pick up some food at the local IGA and have breakfast at the house. One thing to note, because the house is on a main street there is some traffic noise early in the morning/evening. We wake up quite early, so it wasn't an issue for us. Overall, a terrific vacation rental! Thank you again, Jane! We hope to visit beautiful Greenport again soon!

Beautiful property and great location for a relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Captain's Cottage. Jane was a fantastic host and made us feel right at home. The property is on the edge of downtown Greenport, within a two minute walk to restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and liquor stores. The beach is also a short walk away, though we ended up driving elsewhere during our stay. Having extra beach towels provided was great.

We loved the property--all rooms were clean and neat, the air conditioning was fast and efficient (perfect for the 90 degree August heat!), and the numerous board games in the living room were nice touch. We would love to stay again next time we are in the area!
