Comfortable cabin in the middle of your own private woods. Relax viewing the natural beauty or visit a ridge or stream on one of our hiking trails. See our review's! Everyone likes it here! Lot's to do and see - much of it nature oriented. There are resident hawks & owls. Fire pit, disc golf basket, picnic tables, croquet & badminton. Trail rides on horseback available. Guided nature activities available. The Chalet cabin is in the middle of 500 acres of woods with well marked hiking & riding trails. Several local lakes are a 20/30 minute drive away. There are two cabins on the property, this listing is the smaller of the two - the "Chalet" cabin - sleeps 4. The larger cabin is on VRBO in a separate listing (Exeter Nature Cabins). Both cabins are sometimes rented together.
The cabins, located in Exeter, Maine are centrally located in Maine, a one or two hour drive from many of Maine's well known attractions - Moosehead Lake, Baxter State Park, Acadia State Park, Bar Harbor, etc.a - We are 30 minutes from Bangor, Maine and 60 minutes from Augusta, Maine.
Contact the owner for vacation suggestions and help planning your trip (if you would like).
Exeter has been a family gathering place and we have had numerous family holidays, get-to-gethers and two weddings here. The younger generation of our family spent their childhood exploring the woods and nature here. Betty & Richard always wanted Exeter Nature Cabins to be about keeping a natural area for animals and nature education.
Debbie Bartlett purchased this cabin in 1995
It's peaceful, beautiful, soul renewing place to stay. EVERYONE who stays here says they love it. There are activities for everyone. If your a homebody, then stay on the deck and enjoy the wildlife from there. There are hiking trails that range from leisurely to more challenging. We are just starting to build a place where folks can come and learn more about the woods and natural environment around them. We don't have those opportunites when we live in the city.
Guided Nature Activites. Right now we organize guided nature hikes but we have plans to offer more activities like trips to local lakes and themed nature hikes ie. birdwatching.
Please see my other cabin, Exeter Nature Cabin listing for reviews of both cabins & environs. I'm also on Facebook. I have been getting 5 out of 5's.
We found this beautiful property at the last minute, and I consider my family and I to be so lucky. It was exactly what we were looking for!
Debbie was so kind from the start, answering all my questions before booking. She was totally ok with our two dogs coming along. She met us when we arrived and showed us the cabin, told us about the area, and just made us feel so welcome.
The cabin was clean and had all the basics for our stay. It had two bedrooms, perfect for 2-4 people. (And, dogs!) There is a second cabin that is larger within shouting distance, so families who are larger should consider reaching out to see if she can accommodate!
IT WAS SO QUIET!!! And, just secluded enough to feel like you are camping in the deep woods. (It is pretty secluded - I forget how many acres it is, but, this is private property so you are away from all traffic, etc.) There are several well marked trails, a creek, a fire pit and trees, trees, trees. We even heard the coyotes in the distance one night. (A very cool experience for this DC city girl!) OMG - and the STARGAZING!!! THE best!!
My dogs had the best time being "off-leash" and exploring the trails, and I did not need to worry about them getting a little out of sight. Debbie's dog, Yeti, is a sweetheart, totally cool with my bossy 16-year-old Beagle and my other super shy 15-year-old Beagle. In fact, Debbie's whole family was super kind and friendly.
Stores are in nice towns between 10-30 mins away, but, they do close early-ish, so keep that in mind if you are used to 24-hr service. We easily drove over to Moosehead Lake and Bar Harbor for some exploring (and failed Moose scouting - they are elusive!!) If you are looking for a laid back and comfortable vacation, come here. We loved Maine for the beauty, and will likely return very soon!
Thanks, Debbie!!! :)
My family and I booked a weekend at the small cabin and it was very nice overall. The property is gorgeous, we hiked around several times and there were enough paths that we never went down the same one twice. The cabin was nicely prepared for guests, and had everything we could need for a few days there. Thank you very much Debbie, we loved it!
Quiet place in the woods. Nice and relaxing little cabin to get away from it all. Debbie was great! She met us upon arrival and made us feel at home and made sure we had what we needed. The kids enjoyed a fire and roasting marshmallows almost every night of our stay. They loved meeting Yeti and wanted to bring him home with us. :) We enjoyed our coffee every morning on the front porch and watched a buck, doe and two fawns one morning enjoying their breakfast from the apple tree out front. My daughter and I went horseback riding (thanks to Debbie for setting it up). Our guide Dustin was great. Made us feel like we were pros. While we were riding my husband and son went exploring on one of the many trails on the property. We enjoyed our stay and didn't want to leave.
Saw deer and turkeys every morning! Very rustic cabin, clean and comfortable. Our hosts went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you!
We had a great time but didn't have enough time to explore more and enjoy the property. We have recommended this place to other people. Hopefully we can get back here next year for a longer stay.
We were Extremely pleased with our stay at the Chalet Cabin. The view and peaceful atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. Deb is a sweetheart and was very helpful and friendly. I couldn't have booked a better vacation. The cabin is equipped with everything we needed and has a real cabin feel to it. The nature and beauty was an incredible sight, deer, chipmunks, birds etc.. The landscape was neat and inviting. I walked a bit on a trail, which was easy walking and great viewing. At night we lit a campfire and roasted marshmallows. It was just Perfect! I highly recommend Exeter Nature Cabins and can't wait to go back next year. Thank you Deb & Family for making our week so enjoyable!!!
