Palo Duro Canyon Escape @ Doves Rest Cabins - SkyHouse

Sky by Name. Sky by Nature. Let your heart sing. You’ll never forget the first time that you see this view! Perched hundreds of feet above the west rim of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, from this celestial cabin you will survey everything that lies below in the canyon floor, and from above; where the sun, stars, planets, and the moon are seen traveling in the wide open expanse of the firmament. SkyHouse is a real piece of Heaven and is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

This massive one-bedroom, 1 and ½ bath cabin was designed by the premiere home-builder in the Texas Panhandle. This Cliffside retreat has a contemporary design that seamlessly blends into the landscape around it. The master bedroom acts as its own private suite, including a queen size leather sofa sleeper in the main room.

The large covered porch and expansive terraced patios with HOT TUB make for perfect outdoor gatherings, and is the centerpiece during long summer evenings. The combination of upscale amenities and stunning vistas is what makes this Palo Duro Canyon Cabin so attractive to the discriminating intrepid traveler.

Why Jeff Means chose Texas

Palo Duro Canyon State Park with its Technicolor walls make for high-desert scenery more commonly seen in southern Utah. It offers more than 30-miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails and an additional 1,500 acres set aside for horseback riding. You can bring your own horses so don’t hesitate to ask us about local boarding. Mountain bikers can experience the best single track in Texas and will enjoy the well maintained five trail heads networking for some 26-miles throughout the canyon ranging from "mild" to "wild" in technical ability - dirt, rocks, river rock, sand, wash-outs, switchbacks, drop-offs and climbs with alternative trail accesses throughout.

During the summer, enjoy a performance of the outdoor musical drama TEXAS. The play, nearing a half-century in its on-going production runs Tuesdays through Sundays, June through August, at the 1,700 seat Pioneer Amphitheater. Watch the stories, struggles and triumphs of early settlers. The family-friendly show has singing, dancing, fireworks and lots of Texas humor.

You'll find SkyHouse a place of amazing beauty, quietness and nurturing of soul & spirit.

Palo Duro Canyon embodies Texas’ sense of place and spirit like few other areas in the state. Doves Rest Cabins is honored to provide the world’s only private overnight luxury accommodations to intrepid travelers, offering unique views and an iconic symbol of the American Southwest for our guests to enjoy. Wildlife diversity and abundance around Doves Rest is excellent, including populations of blue quail, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey, bobcat, mule deer, white-tailed deer, Barbary sheep, coyote, roadrunners, skunks, rabbits and numerous songbirds. Fun memories and relaxation happen here!

What makes this cabin unique

Off the beaten path and outside of mainstream destinations, we’re far from every other place to stay. We deliver an amazing guest experience that is truly authentic Texan, personal, and character-rich. Doves Rest Cabins is truly a unique base camp from which to explore one of the world’s most transformative spot – Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Doves Rest Cabins is ideal for travelers who believe small is beautiful, and see travel not as something one does, but rather identifies it as part of who one is.

If private and quiet surrounded by nature with friendly wildlife nestled in your own little world only a few minutes away to the second largest canyon in America interests you, then you’re in the right place!

Comfort and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The sky house was beautiful, every detailed was very planned to make the guest feel so comfortable! The view was breathtaking and, just to sit in the rocking chair and look out into the canyon with all its beautiful colors was rejuvenating. The beds , the sheets, towels and the robes were so comfortable that we hated to come home. We loved getting into the hot tub at night to watch the stars. We've stayed in many Rentals, and by far the sky house had every detail planned out to make our visit enjoyable. We Will definitely be back.

Took a couple of days to escape from the pressures of the everyday grind. This is just the place to get away. We will be back. Thanks.

Gorgeous place. We'll be back!

Outstanding view and very comfortable cabin. The bed was just right. Hot tub with a sky full of stars topped off a wonderful stay. Only minor complaint is there was only one large glass for drinks and on the oven buttons, the number 2 didn't work.

Awed by the view, surrounded by nature.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely three days in the SkyHouse cabin and even enjoyed the changeable weather! First day was sunny and warm so we spent time on the porch soaking in the view. The next day was cold and windy with rain off and on so we enjoyed the warmth and sound of a crackling wood fire inside and the view of the canyon through the wall of windows. On our last day we reluctantly left the cabin and explored the State Park and had lunch in Canyon. And on our last morning, we delayed our departure for about an hour to watch the twenty or so bighorn sheep just outside the cabin door. What a send off!

The cabin was well appointed, the bed comfortable, and the 180 degree view of the canyon made it a wonderful experience.
