Palo Duro Canyon Escape @ Doves Rest Cabins - SkyHouse

Sky by Name. Sky by Nature. Let your heart sing. You’ll never forget the first time that you see this view! Perched hundreds of feet above the west rim of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, from this celestial cabin you will survey everything that lies below in the canyon floor, and from above; where the sun, stars, planets, and the moon are seen traveling in the wide open expanse of the firmament. SkyHouse is a real piece of Heaven and is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

This massive one-bedroom, 1 and ½ bath cabin was designed by the premiere home-builder in the Texas Panhandle. This Cliffside retreat has a contemporary design that seamlessly blends into the landscape around it. The master bedroom acts as its own private suite, including a queen size leather sofa sleeper in the main room.

The large covered porch and expansive terraced patios with HOT TUB make for perfect outdoor gatherings, and is the centerpiece during long summer evenings. The combination of upscale amenities and stunning vistas is what makes this Palo Duro Canyon Cabin so attractive to the discriminating intrepid traveler.

Why Jeff Means chose Texas

Palo Duro Canyon State Park with its Technicolor walls make for high-desert scenery more commonly seen in southern Utah. It offers more than 30-miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails and an additional 1,500 acres set aside for horseback riding. You can bring your own horses so don’t hesitate to ask us about local boarding. Mountain bikers can experience the best single track in Texas and will enjoy the well maintained five trail heads networking for some 26-miles throughout the canyon ranging from "mild" to "wild" in technical ability - dirt, rocks, river rock, sand, wash-outs, switchbacks, drop-offs and climbs with alternative trail accesses throughout.

During the summer, enjoy a performance of the outdoor musical drama TEXAS. The play, nearing a half-century in its on-going production runs Tuesdays through Sundays, June through August, at the 1,700 seat Pioneer Amphitheater. Watch the stories, struggles and triumphs of early settlers. The family-friendly show has singing, dancing, fireworks and lots of Texas humor.

You'll find SkyHouse a place of amazing beauty, quietness and nurturing of soul & spirit.

Palo Duro Canyon embodies Texas’ sense of place and spirit like few other areas in the state. Doves Rest Cabins is honored to provide the world’s only private overnight luxury accommodations to intrepid travelers, offering unique views and an iconic symbol of the American Southwest for our guests to enjoy. Wildlife diversity and abundance around Doves Rest is excellent, including populations of blue quail, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey, bobcat, mule deer, white-tailed deer, Barbary sheep, coyote, roadrunners, skunks, rabbits and numerous songbirds. Fun memories and relaxation happen here!

What makes this cabin unique

Off the beaten path and outside of mainstream destinations, we’re far from every other place to stay. We deliver an amazing guest experience that is truly authentic Texan, personal, and character-rich. Doves Rest Cabins is truly a unique base camp from which to explore one of the world’s most transformative spot – Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Doves Rest Cabins is ideal for travelers who believe small is beautiful, and see travel not as something one does, but rather identifies it as part of who one is.

If private and quiet surrounded by nature with friendly wildlife nestled in your own little world only a few minutes away to the second largest canyon in America interests you, then you’re in the right place!

Absolutely amazing!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We travel very frequently and have for 30 years. This is the best trip we have EVER had. The accomodations are incredible, and it is impossible to ever tire of the views. We couldn't get enough. Just the rest and relaxation we needed.

SkyHouse Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We visited the SkyHouse Cabin at Palo Duro Canyon for three nights during Spring Break 2017. We enjoyed every day we were there! Upon our arrival, the champagne and souvenir glasses were a nice surprise. The cabin was beautiful, and the view from the back porch was nothing short of fantastic. Soaking in the hot tub provided relaxation after a day of hiking in the State park. And most of all, SkyHouse provided much-needed quiet and serenity that is missing from our everyday lives. Thanks so much for the opportunity to visit, and we definitely hope to return someday!

Absolutely perfect stay in Palo Duro Canyon

  • 5 of 5

I have traveled all over the country and this is one of the most beautiful properties I've stayed. Right on the rim of the canyon; the views are amazing and the sunset was spectacular. Cabin was very clean and had everything we needed to grill out on the patio and have a nice relaxing evening. I will be returning in the future to stay here and highly recommend you should too!

Well Equipped

  • 4 of 5

Site was lovely with beautiful scenery, including the aoudad sheep that visited daily. The one exception was the cheap shades. Several, especially in the bedroom area were torn, were functionally inoperable and did not block out the light from the sunrise which is amazing but not if you choose to sleep in. The kitchen area was well equipped with the exception of a vegetable peeler. The oven and racks were dirty - perhaps an upgrade to self-cleaning would be in order for the pricing. There were no instructions for the cable/TV/BluRay system. Thankfully my husband persevered and got the system operational.

Absolutely amazing!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was wonderful, and the view was breathtaking! We were welcomed with champagne and chocolates. The cabin was comfortable and furnished with anything you'd ever need. The hot tub was great, and the view of the canyon below in the moonlight was a site to see! We were only minutes from Palo Duro State Park and went hiking every day. We enjoyed our stay so much that we didn't want to leave!
