Sandals & Sunsets is a lovely 3 BR/2 BA custom waterfront home, that sleeps 6 comfortably in beds and can accommodate 2 additional people if using the inflatable queen size air mattress provided. It is located on Palm Island/Knight Island offering beautiful Bay views. Only 2 minutes (or less) by golf cart to the spectacular Gulf of Mexico, 7 miles of white sugar sand beach, seashells, prehistoric shark's teeth, turquoise water, and more!! Sandals & Sunsets has everything to make your vacation unforgettable!

Master/King bedroom features a Tommy Bahama-style decor with walk-in shower, his/her vanities, huge walk-in closet, and small private balcony. Two guestrooms are located on the main level of the home; one has a King bed and the other a Queen bed. The guest bathroom is also on the main level with a tub/shower combo and pedestal sink.The main decor throughout the home is a bright and airy beach theme.

Whether you are a gourmet chef or not, you'll love to prepare your meals or "catch-of-the-day" in the NICELY-EQUIPPED kitchen, featuring a smooth-surface stove top, two ovens, plus microwave/convection oven over stove. Kitchen has side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, lots of pantry space, an island-style counter/bar with 6 bar stools. The dining room has a custom glass-top dolphin table with 6 wrought iron chairs with China Hutch and is open to the kitchen and living room. The dining room also has custom-etched French doors opening to the large porch balcony overlooking the pool and has Bay view. The laundry room is off the kitchen and dining area with washer/dryer, utility sink and additional storage cabinets. The family room is also open-style and has an entertainment center, a 50" flat-screen t.v. offering DirecTv satellite, and a small desk. There is also a small dvd/book library for your enjoyment. WIFI available.

Downstairs on ground level whip up your favorite cocktail and test your barbequing talents on the enormous gas grill/rotisserie located near the beautiful, totally screened-in pool (30 ft long x 13 ft wide, 3 to 5 ft deep). For your added enjoyment, there is a game room/wet bar/tv pool side, along with a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer to store your bait and beer!!

SAVE MONEY by using the commercial-size ice machine that makes up to 300 lbs. of clear, filtered ice per day!! Walk out to the 60-ft.-wide dock to just kick back and relax. Have your camera ready as dolphins and manatees are often seen swimming in the lagoon!! Also, try your luck at catching a whopper! Anglers enjoy the plentiful fish around our dock! Two green underwater night lights attract many species! Some types of fish caught off our dock include: Snook, flounder, speckled trout, grouper, snapper, red fish, sheepshead, black drum, lady fish, blue runners, and cat fish. Bait traps, crab traps, and limited light fishing tackle are also available to help you snag something for dinner! Deck chairs, beach chairs, and bicycles are also on site for your enjoyment.

If bad weather occurs during your stay -- no worries, the home is equipped with a 25KW generator that kicks on automatically if power is interrupted and all windows have storm shutters (electric and instant roll down!!)

There is NO bridge that connects the Island to the mainland!! Unless you plan to visit the Island using your own personal boat, then you will need to use the Palm Island Transit Ferry. The Ferry transports vehicles to and from the Island 7 days per week and there is a charge for vehicles to cross, as well as golf carts, bicycles, and walk-on pedestrians. I provide my guests with one free, complimentary round-trip pass (a $37 value). For guests staying an extended period, additional passes will be provided. Also, additional passes can be purchased from me or the Palm Island Transit Ferry staff upon arrival, should you require more.

Sandals & Sunsets is fully-furnished and provides many of the items you need for comfort during your stay (bath towels, beach towels, linens, dishes, utensils, pots, pans, regular coffee pot, Keurig coffee pot, hair dryer, iron and board, beach chairs, bicycles. etc.) I provide a couple of rolls of paper towels, and small bath soaps just to get you started and plenty of bathroom tissue is provided. However, guests need to bring all of their own groceries, sun tan lotions, bug sprays, detergents, and other provisions and prepare their own meals. There is NO grocery store on the Island!!


When you back off the Ferry, the paved road you will drive on is North Gulf Boulevard, stay straight on North Gulf Boulevard until you come to the first dirt road on the right which is Palm Drive. Turn right onto Palm Drive (the road curves but keep going) until you come to 82 Palm Drive on the right side of road. The house is peach-colored with hunter green railing. (Our home is 1/2 mile from Ferry landing.)



Due to back-to-back bookings, check-in and check-out times must be adhered to as we need 5 hours to clean the home in between guests. When possible you will be notified if early check-in or late check-out is permitted. We strive to ensure that the home is in tip-top shape for you when you arrive!!

Driving time: 1 hour twenty minutes (approximately) from Tampa

Address - 82 Palm Drive, Placida, FL

From Tampa:

Take I-75 South to Exit 191 US-41/Manatee Community College. Merge right onto River Road and continue for 12 miles. At the 2rd traffic light, take a left onto Winchester and continue straight; Winchester will intersect 776/McCall Road so continue straight through intersection until you reach Placida Road. Turn left onto Placida Road and continue straight. Turn right on Panama Boulevard to Palm Island Transit Car Ferry Landing. Wait for boarding instructions from Ferry Staff. (If you need to get groceries, go past Panama Boulevard and continue down Placida Road for 1 ½ miles to the Publix Super Market on the Left.)

From Fort Myers Airport: 1 hour thirty minutes approximately

Follow airport exit to I-75 north to Exit 170 Kings Hwy, approximately 35 miles. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp. Go under the expressway and take the first right on Veterans Boulevard/776 stay on Veterans Boulevard/776 for about 15 miles until you come to Gasparilla Road, turn left at the light onto Gasparilla Road, you are about 10.5 miles from the island, so just stay on Gasparilla Road until you come to Panama Boulevard on the left, turn on Panama and proceed to Palm Island Transit Car Ferry Landing. (If you need groceries, there is a Publix Grocery Store enroute to the Ferry on Gasparilla Road.)


Palm Island is actually three islands. Knight Island (the most northern island bordered to the north by Stump Pass), Don Pedro Island (the middle island), and Little Gasparilla Island, the most southerly island, were originally three separate islands, divided by passes. When the pass between Knight Island and Don Pedro Island, and the pass between Don Pedro Island and Little Gasparilla Island closed (sometime in the 1960s), the Islands became one, with more than seven miles of beach.

Palm Island Resort encompasses the northern two miles and is a private resort area, with golf cart or walking access only. Rum Bay Restaurant is located inside the Resort along with a small gift shop and is open to the public. While on the Island, Rum Bay Restaurant can be reached by golf cart, bicycling, walking or boat (no vehicles allowed).

The area of the Island you are staying on is known as Palm Island Estates and is approximately two and a half miles long, including Knight Island, and over the big bridge, Don Pedro Island. South of the road access, lies the Don Pedro Island State Park which is approximately 135 acres of natural, pristine land. You can access the State Park by boat or a beach walk. There are bathroom facilities in the park area. To the south of the State Park lies Little Gasparilla, an Island accessible by private boat with approximately 300 homes, mostly part-time residents. Development there was started somewhere during the turn of the century. Some of the older 'fish camps' still can be seen. Today, there are some exclusive home sites and two condominium communities.

Palm Island Estates is home to approximately 100 families who live here full time. There are approximately 325 existing residences, some used every weekend, others on a part-time basis. Many owners rent their homes when they are not using them.

When Palm Island Estates was platted in the late 1950s, a bridge to the mainland was built. In the early 60s, the Intra-coastal waterway was dredged and the bridge removed for good. There are approximately 750 platted lots in this area with 453 owners.

There are about ten school-aged children who live full-time on the island. The parents 'boat pool' them to school or they travel via ferry to the mainland to catch the bus at the landing.

My husband, Charles, and I were born and raised in Plant City, Florida (strawberry country). YES, we're genuine Florida "crackers"!! We met, fell in love, and married in 1985 and are still crazy in love with each other after all these years! I have one son from a previous marriage and Charles has two daughters from a previous marriage. Our children are now grown with kids of their own, so we are enjoying being grand parents to 1 grandson and 4 granddaughters. As Florida residents, we have always had a passion for any water-related activities!! Through the years, we have especially enjoyed fishing, scuba-diving, snorkeling, lobstering, scalloping, boating, walking the beaches, etc. We discovered Palm Island about 30 years ago while visiting some friends in the area. We were immediately "hooked" and decided that was the area in which we wanted to live and worked towards that goal. We lived full-time on our 57-ft. motor-yacht for 8 years (1-1/2 years at Bahia Mar in Ft. Lauderdale and 6-1/2 years at Palm Island Marina). Prior to living on our Yacht, we lived and worked in Tampa/Brandon, Florida area. We were blessed to be able to purchase our home on Palm Island in July 2000 and have lived on the Island full-time since. It is truly a unique place to live and the Island is a close-knit community. We consider many of our neighbors and friends an extension of our own family!! Once you visit, I know you will love it, too!

Why Connie Taylor chose Florida South Central Gulf Coast

As native Floridians, we have been fortunate enough to visit many beautiful places in the State. Although we love the natural springs around, Homossasa, Crystal River, Silver Springs, etc., we really love the beaches in Florida. Upon visiting Palm Island and seeing the gorgeous powdery sand beach, the blue-green water, the seclusion and privacy, we knew we wanted to live on the Island. We enjoy the small towns around Palm Island, such as Englewood, Venice, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, and North Port. We attend a wonderful Church in Englewood called Fellowship Church and there are several groups on the Island that get together weekly for spiritual fellowship with one another.

What makes this house unique

When we chose to buy our home, we loved that it was situated on a private cul-de-sac street. It has a deep-water dock (which we later enlarged) and a lovely view of the Bay, yet is only a short distance (a 2-minute golf cart ride) to the beach!

Wonderful family vacation home

My family and I really enjoyed celebrating my mother's 60th birthday at this vacation home. The owners are very close and are readily available to assist you should you need it. The outdoor area was a big hit, we enjoyed every meal on the deck. I wouldn't hesitate to rent this property again in the future. Thank you Connie and Charles

Labor Day Family Weekend

All I can say is it was AMAZING!! We had 6 adults and 4 young kids staying for a 3 day weekend. Connie and Charles made everything so nice for us. They commiserated with us about the weather Friday and tried to figure something out to help us. Then we got there and they had a big gift basket for us. So much thought and consideration went into it! There was something for everyone! The house is beautiful! My son enjoyed fishing from the dock and keeping our boat right there was an added bonus! We all enjoyed jumping in the pool after a day on the boats. The only complaint we have is that we had to go home!!!

We have stayed in several homes on the island and consider this one a rare GEM. The property is meticulously maintained inside and out from top to bottom. The photos listed give you an idea of what to expect but some things must be seen in person to fully appreciate. The home is set up perfectly for a family with children of ALL ages or a couples getaway. Everything listed in the description is very accurate with some wonderful unexpected surprises which we will not spoil.

We would like to thank you Connie and Charlie for enabling us to experience TRUE ISLAND LIFE. You guys made us feel so comfortable that we considered your home our own. Looking forward to visiting again as soon as humanly possible.

If your searching for a slice of heaven, your travels have come to an end. We promise it will not disappoint!!!

Beautiful Place in Paradise

I took our family here for a week vacation and all I can say is WOW! Beautiful place, very nicely kept. Close to everything by boat or car. Car rides are a short ferry trip, we had our boat and a vehicle off the island. The hosts were very gracious, and offered anything and everything up they could! A very big dock that can accomodate a very big boat if needed. A golf cart is provided for access to the rest of the island, which is beautiful. The peace and quiet on the island is unmatched anywhere else we've been. Paddle boarding right from the dock was one of my favorite things to do there. A definite for those who love the beach and water. My wife and kids, nor I, wanted to leave when the week was over. The experience left us searching for a home like that, in a similar setting. We will be back!

Idyllic Island Retreat

My family enjoyed a wonderful 7 days on Palm island swimming, boating, beach going, fishing and exploring. The photos are very representative of the actual home and its amenities. The home is well kept and very clean. The homeowner's were tremendous hosts and provide a private atmosphere but are available and nearby for requests if you require any reasonable accommodation.

The kid's spent hours in the heated swimming pool and also on the nearby beaches easily reached in minutes by golf cart.

The entire family fished from the dock and I fished the beach shore (and boat) and among our catch included grouper, ladyfish, jack, seatrout, snapper, a flounder, snook, a yellowtail, a stingray from the dock that put up quite a fight, catfish, a crab, others and 1 weird fish I haven't identified yet.

We rent two or three waterfront vacation rentals annually and this is by far among the most ideally located rental for the combination of boating and beach going I have ever rented.

I would not hesitate to return.
